I'm really enjoying the drama (14/32 episodes). The subtle way the situations unfold allows us to better understand the complexity of Yi Fan's emotions and mind, while at the same time, we see Sang Yan's deep love for her. With each new episode, it's impossible not to get more and more involved in their emotional journey. The story goes far beyond a simple romance, delving into the depths of what it truly means to love and protect someone.

PS: Aaaah, and Mu Cheng is really VERY UNPLEASANT. lol

A question, I have not watched Hidden Love. I keep reading comparison posts to Hidden Love. Can anyone explain…
So, First Frost is a spin-off of the novel Hidden Love. While Hidden Love focuses on the story of Sang Zhi and Jiaxu, First Frost follows the journey of Sang Yan, Sang Zhi's brother, and his relationship with Yi Fan. However, these dramas are not related, meaning the casts of Hidden Love and The First Frost are different. For example, Sang Yan in Hidden Love is played by Victor Ma, while in First Frost he is played by Bai Jing. That's why it's common to see comparisons between the two dramas, but in reality, they are independent. There's no need to watch Hidden Love before First Frost, as there's no direct connection between them.

If they had left the Eastern Country within the proposed time, in 3 days, without waiting for the orphanage to open, I’m sure they would have lived a much calmer life, as A-Zan was in better condition, his expression already radiating hope... Aaaaah, when I think about it, I always feel an overwhelming urge to cry. =( =( =(

Title The White Olive Tree Spoiler
Guys, what were your interpretations of the final scene where they are contemplating the White Olive Tree?

Here’s mine: While observing the tree, wearing the same clothes from their wedding, with a softer and brighter lighting in the scene, and noticing Li Zan’s hand intact, all of this suggests something of a spiritual nature, not a real event, possibly symbolizing their deaths. The scene conveys the idea that their bodies remain untouched in this realm, indicating the transition of their bodies to the spiritual life, representing death through a symbolic representation.

“elope” ML’s fingers are all intact. Accidentally forgotten to edit? Or another time line or something?
Actually, I have a different interpretation. I see the final scene, where they are contemplating the White Olive Tree, as something of a spiritual nature, not a real event, possibly representing their deaths. It's noticeable that the clothes they are wearing are the same as those from their wedding, and Li Zan's hands are intact, suggesting that her body remains untouched in the spiritual world.

is it true they die together in the end?
Sorry for the delay. The ending can be interpreted in different ways, and I’ve seen various interpretations, usually falling into two categories. The first is that when they wrote "fugir" (to escape) by hand, it’s taken literally—that they actually ran away, leaving for somewhere to avoid being a burden to their families. The second interpretation is that "fugir" is a metaphor for death. In this case, the final scene, where they’re contemplating the White Olive Tree, would have a spiritual nature, rather than a real event.

Title The White Olive Tree Spoiler
We’ve reached the end, and just like the protagonists, I wish for world peace, but also for inner peace, the kind that transcends understanding, peace of mind. May everyone be well and safe. I already knew what would happen in the final episodes, both from the novel and from the scenes in the opening and closing of each episode. I knew Benjamin would die, even though I didn’t want it, my heart was already prepared because that happens in the novel. I also noticed in the ending song the scene of Sasin at the university, which was Ben’s wish in case he passed away. The scene with A-Zan and Song Ran observing the White Olive Tree is something I can’t quite explain, but every time I saw it, I had the feeling it was something spiritual, not real, just like they also witnessed the vision of the White Olive Tree in the earlier episodes. This is a drama with many emotional nuances; it is not a story with a fully happy ending, as everyone will have their own scars and wounds to deal with, because after such deep trauma, no one will ever be the same. A-Zan, you have my heart, and I thank Chen Zhe Yuan for bringing such a character to life with so much dedication and commitment. All the actors performed so well, and even though it may not be technically perfect (script, direction, editing), I appreciated the subtlety of a impetuous sea, the serenity of a storm, and the sadness reflected in the eyes of those who smile with their lips.

You're welcome! As the episodes progress, we gain a better understanding of what's going on in the minds of the two protagonists, especially Li Zan, whose clinical situation is more severe compared to Song Ran's. When they reunite, they will experience both good moments but also extremely difficult ones. In fact, their relationship reflects a life in duality: on the outside, they seem fine and show that to each other, but internally, there's an unhealed wound, an emptiness. Using a metaphor, it's as if there's a ticking time bomb in their minds, ready to explode at any moment, especially in Li Zan's case. This drama is full of nuances and is an emotional rollercoaster, but they are still trying to move forward, seeking ways to heal the impacts this trauma has caused in their minds.

Hi, hi! I’m on episode 12—can someone explain what’s going on with both of the main leads? Are they dealing…
Hi Hanna! This drama has an interesting characteristic of revealing events gradually, with the understanding of situations developing as the episodes progress. In episode 11, we see the explosion from Song Ran's perspective, but as you continue watching, the scene will be shown from Li Zan's point of view. So, to answer your question: Li Zan is dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (TEPT), severe anxiety, and sleep disturbances, while Song Ran is facing depression. In fact, everyone who witnessed this tragic event has some psychological issue to confront. As for Captain Jing, he did indeed die in the explosion, and everyone characters knows this, but the scene will only be shown to us, the viewers, later on through Li Zan's memories.

I've watched other dramas with Chen Zhe Yuan, and I truly think he's amazing. In this one, I feel like he had a very deep connection with the character Li Zan, a full body and soul commitment. His emotions flow naturally, and his eyes are so expressive that even when his character smiles, you can sense a certain sadness in them. His performance is truly moving, especially in the scenes where he cries, gets desperate, or faces crises due to his psychological disorder.
