Appreciation of how complex and multi-layered Xiao Huan is as a character:First, lets cover one of the first things…
Well said. From the very first scene of the drama, I already started trying to understand XH. He acted harshly, even cruelly, but something in the way he carried himself made me feel that he wasn’t doing it without a reason. I’ve watched seven episodes now, and throughout each one I’ve been peeling back the layers of his character, trying to figure out what shaped him, what pressures he’s under, and what exactly he’s trying to protect.
Once the flashbacks came in, everything about him started to make more sense — his decisions, his contradictions, his emotional restraint, and even the moments where he seems cold-blooded. The story clearly paints him as someone torn between his duty, his fear, and his desire to shield Cang Cang from a reality that could break her.** Like you, I find his overprotectiveness frustrating and even “dumb” at times, but I also feel sympathy for him. I can’t help feeling angry at some of his choices, while at the same time understanding the helplessness that forces him into them. That mix of resentment and pity tells us how well his character is written.
And honestly, even if his cruel façade can fool the Dowager Empress, I doubt he could ever deceive the Preceptor or the Grand Tutor for long. Those two are far too intelligent and politically sharp. If anything, his behavior is more likely to expose how conflicted he truly is — which again shows how human and imperfect he is beneath all the masks.
He’s deeply flawed, but not beyond understanding. And that’s what makes watching him so compelling.
I don’t quite understand why there are so many complaints about the drama by day 3. It’s one thing if people…
Complaining about a drama after watching only one episode is understandable — first impressions can be rough. But complaining while completely skipping the clear on-screen text like “TWO MONTHS LATER” and “ONE YEAR BEFORE”… that’s wild 😭💀. If you miss the time jumps, of course everything will feel confusing.
And about the cast — what you said is absolutely true. They’re really good, and the acting is solid. My only problem is with how the FL’s character is written. Something about her characterization feels a bit off to me. Not the acting, just the writing.
Watching misunderstandings play out again and again is honestly exhausting 😩💤. It’s getting really tiring…
Her father and adopted brother perform well in front of her. Meanwhile, he appears as a villain. It is reasonable for her to feel this way. Here, it is not fair to blame FL for everything, but if we want, we could blame the screenwriters 😂
I won’t be surprised. He dies in almost 90% of all his dramas. One and Only is the first Cdrama that I actually…
Me too. I was the first one, and it's been years, yet I could not be able to forget that sorrow once I suffered from watching the one and only. When I watch this drama I really miss prince of Nancheng
This feels like something I don't want to watch; I don't want crazy MLs like the one from SOKP. Usually, I can…
Oh my gosh, you are in a big delusion. Never compare him to the ML of SOKP. I still get shocked when I remember the ML of SOKP. Here, this ML did everything bcs he was forced to do. Not his own wish
Tomorrow Cangcang gonna find consorts for emperor to expand his harem. LoL. This is not what I wanted to see from…
As drama fans, we do not want to see that. And we wish a healthy, great love story from the leads, not battles of the harem for the ML' s love. But in the novel, there are consorts, concubines, and also talented ladies. As the ML, an Emperor, we have to see that.
When imperial physician Li asked, "Inside the palace, is there a woman this brat actually likes, one who also has inner strength? " I really felt it. 😂

Even if the writer wants a happy ending, these two will drag the script straight into heartbreak themselves 😭🔥.
They’re basically the CEOs of Tragedy.
