Based on the notes released from the drama's weibo, Devil God was born from pre-world chaos (aka pre-Big Bang in science terms) during the era of Nvwa and Fuxi (creators of the world and humanity in Chinese mythology), so he is really old. The Devil God is made from all evil sin and karma, and destined to be in the shadows. To protect humanity in case Devil God ever descended upon the Three Worlds and Four Continents, Nvwa and Fuxi created the Twelve ancient Gods. So the 12 ancient gods are actually a generation below Devil God, hence the huge difference in powers.

The Devil God only entered the current world (Nvwa's world is like a different universe above) after a planetary alignment and when the sun eclipsed the moon. He then became the trash can for all the emotional garbage from everyone and everything, and decided to open the All-in-Distress way because he couldn't handle it anymore.

And Evil Devil God is totally out of this world (he literally is though, it was explaind earlier that he got lost and found himself in the Three Worlds' and Four Continents, eventually becoming the trash can for all the emotional garbage XD). Even while taking Siying's life, he makes it sounds like he's giving her something good...

After Shifu tells him that being born a devil baby wasn't his fault, that he had a choice...dang Zhaoyou really shot to the top of the list of Tantai Jin-only stans (not that there were many to begin with in this show...). Tantai JIn finally completes the journey from romantic love to self-understanding to love for the world in these few eps.

Original Devil God with his crazy logic and brainwashing extremism...he is actually from the same generation as Pangu (per Google: creation figure in Chinese mythology who separated heaven and earth), and while the other creation figures represent goodness, he is the shadow of the world. The goodness and evil in the world are relative to each other just like yin and yang. Tired of working overtime and taking in all the sickness, pain and negative emotions from the world, he suddenly has a lightbulb moment and decides to think in reverse - if he removes all the goodness from the world, there will only be negative emotions. Without a comparison to the goodness, the people will only see the world's negativity and know nothing better, and eventually return the world to central chaos.

I'm rewatching the judgement scene in EP34, and want to slap the original Devil God in the face (so what if he also has Luo Yunxi's face XD). He's such an a**hole, scripting Tantai Jin's life like that

It's like Truman's Show - Devil God wrote up Tantai Jin's entire life for him, and if we look back, Tantai Jin's life does follow that trajectory - born after killing his mom, grown up within red palace walls but bullied, rises to the top but comes crashing down, doesn't get a good end with his friends and family, enters the cultivation world and thinks he's put his fate behind him...and finally becoming the devil after killing Zhaoyou. OMG I think I might sob when Cang Jiumin kills Zhaoyou

He was shocked because he didn't think she would put the evil bone in her own body - he thought she would seal it somewhere, like what Mingye did.

Not going to add this in the timeline logic discussion thread, but another theory on Weibo is that the drama timeline is a Mobius strip, which is basically Tantai Jin's life. Give him love, and he could become a God. Give him pain, and he could become the Devil, which fits with the overall theme of: Devil or God is just in a moment's thought (一念神魔).

However, as the Devil's fetus, he is destined to go through the worst - we know that the Devil God in Universe A (where the world was going to end) was created because he died kneeling on the frozen lake. However, even without the evil Ye Xiwu, he could've died from Lan'an's betrayal, his step-brother, during the war, even Ye Bingchang (since she's the mortal trial of the demon Monv).

The only way to untie the Mobius strip is if we follow the present timeline as it is happening in the drama --> leading to Cang Jiumin in Xiaoyao Sect. His road to becoming a God clearer than ever, because Tantai Jin has decided that he will be in charge of his own fate.

It's because the censor board has created a new rule limiting all dramas to 40 episodes (60min max each if 40 episodes). They don't allow seasons or parts, because longer dramas tried to circumvent the rule last year

There's comments saying that "it's awesome how everyone's negative thoughts created someone so beautiful (original Devil God). If only we let him be, we wouldn't have to work 9am-9pm 6 days a week (the norm in China)". And then someone replied "You wouldn't have to work, you'd be dead." XD

Note: The Devil God is formed from all the bad emotions in the world (anger, frustration, sadness etc.)

But if you think back to the Devil God card game Xiaoyao Sect was playing, if you pair the wrong item with the evil bone card, there will be punishment...so it's all wishful thinking for Dimian lol

The purpose is not to catch the demon or to romance each other - this is the first (or second if you count the one in EP32 where bone refining seal is trying to latch onto his heart) challenge for Tantai Jin to choose between devil and god. Because of his own mental strength and love for LSS, Tantai Jin was able to argue with night demon and leave the dream. Each "trouble/trial" is like a level in an rpg game where Tantai Jin fights bad guys and strengthens his opinion that he will not become Devil God.

Bad editing definitely, but Tantai Jin and Li Susu were in two different dreams. Tantai JIn was in the dream where he was talking with red-haired devil god, who is actually the night demon in disguise. The night demon showed Tantai Jin Li Susu's dream, which is the festival scene where Tantai Jin becomes the original devil god (the thing she is most afraid of). However, Tantai Jin discovered that this is just a dream, drove the sword through the night demon and the dream and returned to the real world.

Li Susu got drunk so they can catch the night demon, but she wasn't able to do anything either - she's more like an NPC in today's arc and Tantai Jin's struggle with the devil god is the main story.

She does. Monv was hurt in the big battle between gods and demons 10,000 years ago, so the original Devil God made her undergo various trials to save her life. During this time, she was an incomplete soul hidden in Siying's red umbrella. Ye Bingchang was one of those trials. Monv will remember everything.

If you let go of the love line, and try and watch it as Tantai Jin's growth arc to be a Devil/God where romantic love is one portion of his life (like a RPG game), maybe it'll feel a little better? (It worked for me lol)
