Very very cute but why do i feel like the creators of this show and cherry magic are secretly slightly homophobic?…
I agree with ourpeachscones basically . . . haha
But I wasn't accepting many kisses because of the comedic nature of the show. It's just usually how it goes with these types. It would have made more sense to have multiple actual kisses because of the title, however. Anyway, I don't feel they are homophobic because it goes with the story and/or characters within the show. It's not out of character, but I feel comedic ones are more for a larger maybe mainstream audience and they might feel like they have to keep it a certain way. Maybe it wouldn't even air or something ridiculous. Who knows. The ones that probably aren't more mainstream level, aka not comedic, are less hesitant with that kind of thing.
I wouldn’t say homophobic in like an “I hate hate gay people” kind of way— perhaps literally phobic though.…
I basically agree. Just wanted to add . . . I think this is more the case with the JBLs which will see more eyes and are meant to be mainstream. I feel the comedic ones are more "acceptable" to release to a wide audience: like toeing the line. The more intimate ones tend to have a different vibe and wouldn't appeal to as many people. Most people can get into a cute/funny show after all.
I like the series overall but it started to drag around episode 5. They relied too much on unnecessary flashbacks.…
For me, there was no reason to worry much about the luck situation. It's not as if Kota brought down Naoya's luck to his unlucky level. They just balanced each other out. Being around each other gave them normal luck. Naoya didn't even really care about being lucky--minus the time he didn't get the grand prize instead of the mid-level price. Mainly because he wanted to get it for the person he loved. It wasn't actually bad luck and he got it the next day. Kota probably didn't think much about it because Naoya kept showing he didn't care about his luck in general. Also, it could have been a time crunch thing. haha
As for Japanese BLs having virgin acting people . . . Typically lighthearted comedy ones are more likely to have this trope with some supernatural or misunderstanding element. The realistically calm ones are different. Probably even have more variety now that I think about it. From my experience.
Forgive my ignorance, but is a lack of intimacy / affection a Japanese BL trope? I've seen Cherry Magic, Kieta…
It depends on the type you are watching. Two of the three you mentioned are comedies and lighthearted in nature. Those don't typically have much lip on lip action. There was a good amount of affection though. In my opinion. You can have affection without a ton of skinship after all. Love on the Line was the more realistic calm type. There are a ton with this vibe that don't have a character nervous about intimacy. Some even have sex scenes--and there are definitely dark ones. Point being . . . there are different types out there. Japan has some dated back to the 90s.
As for the uncomfortable character in Love on the Line. That was more because it felt too sudden whenever it happened and he was fine after they talked about it. At least that's what I got from the show.
Do you think you know who might have said it or roughly what it might have been about?I don't have a favorite…
No worries. I was leaning toward it being around that part, but was doubtful because you made it sound like they weren't dating yet in the show. haha Glad you found it~
I think the hint at GL late was a good idea. The story is short and there wouldn't have been time to actually…
That's understandable. I feel like the show maybe should have been longer if it isn't/wasn't gonna have another season. In order to see more change over a bit more time. Perhaps they will make him open up enough without it feeling like a big sudden change. We can only hope it is pulled off well enough. haha
Do you think you know who might have said it or roughly what it might have been about?I don't have a favorite…
Well, right before the first kiss there is talk about that. Something like . . . Pran: Stop doing this to me. We aren't a thing. We aren't even friends. Later on . . . Pat: Do you think we could be friends? Pran: Why? Do you want to be friends? Pat: No. But this doesn't seem to be what you are looking for.
The episode after they agree to the competition . . . I don't think they say anything like that. During the flirting episode when they aren't dating yet...I think there are a couple scenes where relationship status is brought up. Because they aren't official yet but they keep trying to get the other person to confess. Which would be episode 7 I believe.
Or it could be episode 11 when Pran is singing the song at the end. I think it talks about something similar while hinting at their secret relationship.
I found this episode (#7) a little odd. Suddenly, with only one episode left, we get Naoya's POV and backstory.…
I think the hint at GL late was a good idea. The story is short and there wouldn't have been time to actually focus on that potential relationship. Hinting at it is better than nothing, in my opinion.
I'm leaving the "kidnapping" up in the air until the episodes airs. So no comment. haha
As I see it, Kota is showing the difficulties he is having adjusting to a completely different way of life because it's new to him (as is by two days--if you are just counting them officially dating). His whole life has been surface level interactions and now he is trying to jump into being intimate with something he fell in love with. He has had no real experience with developing close relationships. The fact that he skipped learning about how to handle true friendship is saying something. Regardless, it'd be strange of him to suddenly be comfortable and know how to express himself correctly. In order to really see him change we would probably need another season. Roughly two-three weeks is not enough for any big personality shifts. I mean he already changed a lot considering. Even realized his real feelings. Some people take months or ever years. haha
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve rewatched. It’s funny how I’m not tired of it yet
I'm just gonna say five times. The problem is that I've watched a good amount of reaction ones . . . but rarely to the end. Or like when it was airing I sometimes rewatched all the episodes while waiting for the next one. So I don't really count those since I didn't watch the whole show. haha
the fact that this still has a decently active comments sections on here months after ending says a lot
Yeah, when I make a comment in some other places and don't even get a heart--it's a bit sad. Whether it's delayed by over a week or just never comes. haha
Just to point out . . . I believe it's been only 2-3 weeks since the first episode started. The fact that Kota…
For me, the fact that Kota broke up with Naoya was because he didn't want to use his luck and felt uncomfortable that their relationships started in such a way. Him agreeing to date, for real, made me think he wasn't doing it for luck. This could be possibly proven by the fact that Kota decided to go home when his place was fixed despite knowing being alone would bring the bad luck back. Technically he could like him just because Naoya is nice, however. I don't believe that's the case. After all, those two surface level friends of his seem nice--and his senpai. Senpai being the only one who was told about the bad luck situation. Although his reaction (at first) was somewhat normal, in a slightly bad way (in Kota's eyes), he was kind and tried to be helpful in reality. With that said, we don't actually know a lot about Naoya and neither does Kota. So besides Naoyas general kind way of being--Kota seems to be attracted to him in that unexplainable feelings type of way. That's all we got with only a couple weeks passing. Can't forget he's been thinking Naoya is good looking since the beginning.
Kota probably isn't ready. It'd be better to attempt a real friendship first--which is kind of what he decided when they were talking at school alone that one time. Naoya didn't want to be anything but boyfriends, however. They both decided to jump into the real relationship quickly despite everything. Which probably means Naoya would try to be as understanding as possible while Kota would try to adjust as best he can because he wants to. It's just, more likely, going to be a slower process than most relationships.
For some reason, I feel like the story is somewhat not fully developed. Next week is already the ending. 😭…
Just to point out . . . I believe it's been only 2-3 weeks since the first episode started. The fact that Kota has progressed this much in only a week or so of dating (whether fake or not) is kind of amazing.
It is definitely Kota's first love. He hasn't even had real friends before. His circumstance is way different than the norm. Kota has built up habits just to survive and it won't be easy for him to break. Even normal everyday things (going well) are new to him. It'd be weird if he suddenly knew how to interact with someone effectively since he's never had such an experience. Not counting the surface level stuff he's been doing. I believe Kota feels behind in how much he loves Naoya in comparison because he is. Naoya has been in love for about two years. That's a big difference. Kota also just realized (two days ago or something) and has NO idea how to navigate his feelings. He even attempted to kiss, probably, because of what the professor said even though there are other ways to show you care: like cooking breakfast for the other person when you don't normally.
I think this could end at a good 'finally the relationship is solid and everything is cleared up' type of place. Another season would be good to show how they navigate things as Kota becomes accustomed to life interacting with people in a more honest and deep way.
