There is romance between Gu Xiang and Cao Wei Ning but they are secondary couple.
For the protagonists Zhou Zi Shu and Wen Ke Xing it depends on how you want to interpret their relationship. The novel this is based on is BL but here it was toned down and could be interpreted as Bromance. In the series they refer to each other as soulmates.
ZZS trying to go his way and always finding him in front of him is so funny (=^-ω-^=)
The story is adapted from a BL Novel but BL is banned in Chinese Dramas so the need to be subtle about it. They did try to push the limits but still it required some tone down to pass censorship and be able to release. I guess these lines seemed too obvious and needed to be overdubbed in post production.
That is my understanding. If someone knows more please let us know.
These lines are mostly about 'sugar' and it's not every episode. I am sure there are more lines out there but that's the easiest I could find.
For example: Ep3 at 3:49 WKX says 'you must be extraordinary.' while the original line was 'you must be a beauty' Ep3 at 41:36 WKX says 'I'm willing to bet that there's a very big surprise lying underneath your outermost skin.' while the original line was 'I bet under your outer skin lies a very rare, naturally beautiful person.' Ep4 at 21:57 WKX says 'A Xu, your martial arts are so impeccable, but you don't have a ear for music.' while the original line 'A Xu, you're good looking but you don't know how to blow the flute properly.' etc..
ZZS trying to go his way and always finding him in front of him is so funny (=^-ω-^=)
If you are interested some of the lines were censored in post production but people managed to read the lips of the actors and find what was originally said.
I have put the links I found about it in the spoiler below

In Ep6 you will get a hint on one of the reasons he is following him. And I say reasons and not reason because obviously one of them is just because ZZS is so beatiful! 。^ ‿ ^。

WKX is indeed the Leader of the Ghost Valley. The 'Ghosts' in the valley are considered to be the worst criminals who didn't have any place in the world, so they enter the valley as a refuge. Only the strongest survive there as everyone is trying to kill anyone at any time. So, you need to be ruthless to survive there. The ones he killed were also 'Ghosts' so he doesn't have any reservation in killing them.

Ep33 In a meeting where all the righteous sects attended: Someone asks: How did you ended up in the Ghost Valley of Evils? Wen Kexing: I ended up there thanks to all of you!
The alliance of righteous sects against the Ghost Valley reminded me of the alliance of the righteous sects in The Untamed.

After watching Episode 3 it can be inferred and in later episodes revealed that he wasn't the one who ordered that attack.
I totally see how they can also fall into villain category as one was in a dark organization and personally killed even innocent people when ordered as shown in Ep1 and the other as the leader of Evils which even if he hasn't personally killed innocent people still his actions set events into motion that did lead to a lot of casualties. Though, it can be argued that it was the greed in humans (even the ones calling themselves righteous) that caused these casualties.
I think this is a story about how can two people who had no other option before, try to leave their bad past behind and be better people. For Zhou Zishu it happens at the start of the story as he leaves his organizations but for Wen Kexing is a process that started after he met Zhou Zishu.
After finding more about this world and past events the more you will get to understand their actions.
About Wen Kexing's past i think these lines from a later episode give a nice indicator. I have put the Episode number and lines in a separate comment as it can be considered a big spoiler.
Straght or BL.I must know please.Oh.Where can this be viewed ?Responses are welcomed.
Because of censorship we can't have have an explicit BL but this is as close as it can get. Especially after the latest restrictions. I think it's worth to check it out to decide if you like it. Keep in mind that this is a really low budget series with only 3 mins per episode.
Can someone please explain the title? I'm very curious about whether it's linked to the story or if it's just…
It seems to be a literal translation. Someone below mentioned that the 'whitewashed' kinda means that he has been free of accusations. Because in the story the original Xianzun was the villain I think of it like him trying to clear his name and prove that he is innocent (towards his disciple).

Check my comment below if you don't mind being spoiled a little.
