S1 and S2 feel like completely different shows.
If you like more focus on romance and the ML saving the FL (her being more of a damsel in distress) then you might enjoy this season.
I would say it's more likely you will enjoy s2 if you haven't watched s1 as it completely fails to do justice to the characters as a sequel (my personal opinion).
You might indeed be a little confused about the world but it doesn't really matter that much in this season and if you are too curious you can then go check s1.

I agree with you! It's so hard to know where to stop unless you see the whole thing but then it's too late! And there is also the curiosity about getting some answers that are usually in the last episodes.
For example i am currently watching s2 of Alchemy of Souls but I'm thinking it would have been better had I stopped at s1 Ep19 instead.

It's not explicit BL. Due to censorship this is as close as it can get. You could maybe see it as Bromance. I think usually for these kind of titles we get a tag 'Censored Adaptation Of Same-sex Original Work' but since this doesn't seem to be based on a BL novel we are missing an appropriate tag for it.

Maybe they plan to have a season 3 so they might decide to leave an open ending for that reason. We will have to wait and see.
