I really needed these specials to cure my broken heart after episode 59. I know that the ending of episode 59 is hopeful, but I still wanted to see them together and happy with my own eyes and these specials delivered that.
This beautiful 59 episode journey has come to an end. There are so many things about this drama to recommend: the story is interesting, there's multitude of lovable characters, the acting and chemistry is amazing, it's visually stunning and the music is gorgeous.
Cheng Yi and Yang Zi manage to create a couple to remember. They have great chemistry together and did an amazing job portraying their characters. Cheng Yi had a bit more to do, portraying three completely different characters seamlessly. Yang Zi's Yan Dan is basically the same character throughout, but she did a great job portraying the journey that changed her character from a carefree, lazy and cheerful Yan Dan into a mature and brave woman with a deep understanding of responsibility and duty.
If you're doubting whether to watch this, give it a try. The journey may be a bit long, but it was worth it for me.
There are so many beautiful fights in this drama, but the fight between Ying Yuan and Xuan Ye in episode 58 has to be my favourite. Cheng Yi's acting is so on point, that there's never any doubt that these are two completely different people. Xuan Ye is cocky and effortless and Ying Yuan is serious and smart. Great scene.
If i am not wrong its not a new rule made by ran qing, the rule was already applied before but its not strict…
I don't think it's an old rule, because she literally said that the first rule will from then on be abstinence from love and the way it should be punished. Also, Ying Yuan said that the rule was made by his mother right after watching the memories. As for the important responsibilities, not only the deities are forbidden to love, but all immortals in the heavenly realm. That means all those immortal attendants as well. Their duties don't have that much of an impact on the three realms.
Also, no one seems to be allowed to leave the heavenly realm by choice. Yandan and Zhixi were brought to the heavenly realm as a seed and attained their human form there. Did anyone ask them if they wanted to stay and have all these duties pushed on them? They all act like it's some kind of privilege to live in a place that has so many ridiculous rules. So is it really their own choice? Also priests and monks and abstinence doesn't always work in practice either.
I don't remember Ying Yuan ever calling the Emperor his uncle. He called him his teacher and a father figure, but when did he call him uncle? It would give their relationship a different depth.
Thanks for discussing this with me 😊
I don't speak Chinese, so I'm entirely dependent on the subs.
I think she took the decision because Heaven's Immortals are meant to serve and protect the world. Her affections…
It's nice to duscuss with others. It makes me see things from a different perspective, which only helps understand the drama and the characters better. I'm actually grateful that you share your side of things. As I said, I do understand where she's coming from, but the solution she came up with ended up being shortsighted and I expected more from her. A rule like that just can't work, unless you magically remove the people's ability to fall in love, which obviously will have all kinds of other repercussions.
I think she took the decision because Heaven's Immortals are meant to serve and protect the world. Her affections…
"Evil comes from affection" is what she literally said in the drama . Unless the subs are wrong. Obviously, she regretted that it turned out the way it did, but she also said that she didn't regret falling in love. The problem I have with her imposing that rule just because of her own experience is that she took away the choice which she had from others. She didn't have the right. I really liked her as a character. She was brave and open minded and she clearly knew what her duty was and as far as it was shown, she never knowingly neglected it. The issue was never the fact that she fell in love, but who she fell in love with. Also, she clearly made the choice to protect the world every time even if it meant going against the one she loves, so I don't think it's right to think that she wanted the others to concentrate on their duties and not be distracted. More like, she wanted to spare them the pain that she went through, but again, that was not her decision to make. She took away their choice and free will. They were not allowed to fall in love. As if that's something that can be controlled. She herself fell deeply in love with a man she hardly knew. If love could have been something that can be controlled, she could have chosen not to fall for him from the start. But she couldn't, so why did she expect others to be able to? I can't help but think that she made that rule because she was in pain and betrayed and wasn't thinking clearly. Which is understandable, but such a shame.
Did they ever mention that the Emperor was her brother? The way he behaved seemed more like he was in love with her. Watching a person you love die is painful, but the rule is still ridiculous.
Sorry, but that's just the way I feel
Btw, I'm not saying that the story is in any way ridiculous or that the reveal of the reason why the rule was imposed is either. Right from the start of the drama I knew that there just couldn't be a good enough reason. Still love the drama though.
Ran Qing and Xuan Ye's story was a full drama summarised in 2 episodes. I really liked their story. Ran Qing was right when she said that they both value the world more that they value their love. She was sworn to protect the world and he was obsessed with trying to conquer it. He was trying to rule the world and still have both of them survive, but in the end, the cycle ended with both of them dying. It's sad that that was the only solution, but they were both too stubborn for it to end any other way. Their love did end up gifting the world with Ying Yuan, who is perfectly placed to keep the world at peace.
After waiting for so long for the explanation why the immortals were not allowed to fall in love, in episode 54 we find out that it's Ran Qing's ridiculous idea. Seriously? Just because she was seduced and fell in love with the wrong guy, she deduced that evil comes from affection and from then on no one is allowed to fall in love? And if they do, they have to undergo the cruel punishment? The betrayal she felt must have been incredibly painful, but that selfish and delusional rule has ruined countless of lives. Also, the so called wise Emperor just went along with it? Obviously he was in love with Ran Qing himself. At least now we know where the rule came from.
I'm on episode 34 and I have to say that as much as I love Ying Yuan/Tang Zhou and I love the chemistry between Cheng Yi and Yang Zi, I can't help but feel like Yumo may be a better partner for Yan Dan. Right from the start he never tried to restrict her in any way and instead did everything in his power to support her. He's patient and gentle with her and never tried to change her, which is perfect for someone like Yan Dan who enjoys her freedom and prefers a carefree life. I really hope they don't ruin his character by turning him into a possessive, jealous person.
He really impressed me in this drama. That scene was absolutely heartbreaking. That bts clip is among my favourites now, because it showed just how much it takes to bring such emotion to life. Di Di is turning into an amazing young actor.
If she didn't already resent her sister, no matter what Ying Deng said, she would not have done what she did. It's not like she didn't know that she was hurting her sister. So that's definitely not an excuse. I'm at episode 24 and I still think that Zhi Xi is incredibly selfish. Yan Dan would have given her life for her sister, but Zhi Xi only ever looked out for herself. She only "helped" Yan Dan, when that didn't cost her anything. Even her taking revenge for Yan Dan, was favourable for her. I don't think she would have done it, if it endangered her own chances or life. That could of course just be my absolutely low opinion of her at the moment and she may end up changing my mind.

Also, this might be an unpopular opinion and in no way excuses his actions, but I do understand where Huan Qin is coming from.
