This short series has better chemistry and emotional depth than a lot of the top tier dramas released recently. The ML and FL did a bang up job of creating the push and pull of bringing the shyness, confusion, excitement of falling in love mixed with the distrust of knowing the one you are falling for is from an enemy country. For a short series, it was filmed really well, the locations were beautiful and truly unique, showcasing the prairies which we often hear about in dramas but don't really see. Overall, I am very glad I decided to watch it.
I watched the first episode and decided to skip to the last episode to check the ending (as I sometimes do) but…
The last episode is just a recap of the various women's stories of how they came to the villa. You would need to see the show to realize the importance of the box he finds on the swing and the pills inside. Basically everything after he finds the box on the swing is a recap of past episodes, with only one new revelation about the villa master's daughter and her life.
What in the everloving world was that last episode??????? up until 23 the story was moving along, and I was excited to see the last episode ............but it has just thrown me off! It feels like the writers couldn't leave the show at episode 23, so they made up episode 24. It was not required and did nothing for the show, in fact leaving the show at 23 would have kept the audience hooked.

I love everything about that show. From their thoughtful quotes to the way they weave their stories and the basis of the episodes taken from real stories. Same with law and order.

I usually look for comedy or romance in my crime dramas to lighten the tone since my work tends to be on the darker side of life :P That said western dramas like Bones, Criminal minds might be up your alley!!
As I'm now agonising the end of my fav. Drama in 2026 so far hence the depression, can someone recommend me case…

The friend of the young guy who got killed on the bus is really just friend or boyfriend ??His grief and interest…
When I saw the friend break down in his apartment alone (ep 4) and then scroll through their pictures together, the vibe was definitely there. It may have been one sided, who knows but that crying was definitely raw grief done really really well.
I feel you Bai Jing Ting is great. I hope to see him in another drama, hopefully a better one. I thought his romance…
I agree with life being too short for awful dramas. I loved Bai Jing Ting in You Are My Hero and thought he had a lot of potential.
Honestly New Life Begins is my absolute #1, I have not a single bad thing to say about him or the show. Each character for me was crafted to perfection. The plot was fantastic, the serious stuff really landed well and the comedy was on point. But Destined was ...... meh. There was honestly no chemistry between the leads here, he felt like a tool for FL to become the businesswoman she was supposed to be and thats it. I have finally dropped it and do not think I will be revisiting it again. Sadly.
Probably the only kdrama where the MDL rating is higher than it deserves. I could only take 1 episode of it before dropping it entirely. I think I may only pick it up again if I was locked inside my home because of a brain-sucking zombie apocalypse and this was the only show on TV on repeat........umm maybe not even then. Much as I loved the premise and the idea of so many great actors in one show, the execution of it really let it down. The plot holes in episode 1 alone are huge.
This was to be an epic showdown between angels and demons with humanity hanging in the balance and instead........we get a love story, not even an angsty, damn the torpedoes, full throttle one. Just kinda...meh.
OMG the king's 180 in episode 35 was like those white vans of death hitting me. And its soooooo suspicious that…
Absolutely agree!! The foreshadowing is so well done in this show. I wonder if Li's mom was assaulted by the king and hence her dissociation from her son as well as the rest of the world.
OMG the king's 180 in episode 35 was like those white vans of death hitting me. And I find it really suspicious that he hugged Yan Li saying my son my son!! I wonder if it is his real father and the previous king was the one who had died?? Or he is the king and also Yan Li's dad? They never showed us his face when he was courting Li's mom.....only that he has a beard...was it because he was the current king's twin??They have said several times so far that he treats Li better than his own sons. He deposed the CP for merely defending his mother, and doesn't seem to like Yan Cheng any better either. Is he actually trying to get the crown prince and Yan Cheng to have sad ends, Yan Ze is blind so he wouldn't be in the running anyway...or so he thinks), Yan Sui is a child and can be easily eliminated and Yan Chi can be used as a military general like his father ............so that Yan Li becomes the next King???
So glad all the remaining episodes episodes released together coz I cannot bear the mystery.
I think the empress knew all along that this is not the real king, the real king died in the battle and was replaced but chose to never reveal it to stablize the court. She has been shown to say several times now that this is not his thrown to begin with.....
Also glad they finally cleared up the murder of Consort Jin, even though its just for the audience right now. Hope they clear up the remaining mysteries too!!

I thought I was the only one who was bored with the opera case. Perhaps it was too long, and had too many supporting…
Same! It was perhaps a little too many people at once and I had to rewind to get everyone's character straight........ and by the time I did get their name and story right, they died. Oh well!
She was trying to make sure the body can still be examined for autopsy so she had to try to put it out ASAP. By…
I got her intention in throwing water on the body and understood her motivation for being able to examine the to do so. I think it was overplayed in the drama this time. The director has been logical and subtle in their portrayal of the dynamics so far, but this scene was over the top. The romantic music and the smile were unnecessary. It came off as a parody, felt like a different drama in that moment when this drama has so far been stellar. You are in mortal peril one second and coughing your lungs out and lovey dovey smile next. I agree she did throw something to confirm to the crowd you are indeed trapped inside the room and then break the roof tiles (which is so typical of our FL) but that whole swinging from the rooftop was too much of a 180 degree to swallow.
OMG What was that??? Is it just me who was irritated with FL's actions during the fire in the 19th episode??? Like I get the murderer set the fire to burn the bad guy after impaling him, but this was the first time I saw her behaving stupidly and trying to put out the fire with a basin of water and then waiting inside knowing the whole place was going up in fire. Or was it just a plot device to show the leads love? That romantic music during their jump from the roof felt so wrong given the circumstances and that smile she gave ML after they landed off the roof felt like a joke to her previous intelligence. Please don't let this fabulous FL character turn stupid now that she has fallen in love.
OMG!!! Why are they torturing us with only 2 episodes per day????? Dying here!! Now I remember why don't like watching dramas as they are airing!!! That grandma is fly!! She is on to the prince's intentions!! Man her expressions once she realized which way the prince was leaning. She is legit my favourite character in a huge cast of awesome characters. And right after her is the princess. I love her straightforward and warm personality. Her poor brother..... his face as he took the tea from FL just made me giggle so hard.
OMG this drama just gets better and better with every episode. Ep 9 just went from 0 to 60 in a heartbeat with the discovery of multiple bodies. And the Qin family can go soak their heads! That matriarch should be ashamed of herself!(kudos to the actress playing her, she has made me hate the character) but seriously I feel on fire every time they pull that "noble family" shit. Noble in name only, nothing noble in their actions...the hypocrites! I am loving the building understanding between our leads, pretty sure ML has figured out who FL is now but won't say a word. Thank goodness for intelligent dramas.... saving my sanity one scene at a time!!
