I think the demons purposefully put Chong Zi in the immortal clan because they knew how the immortals would treat her. Demons are good at using people's own evil against them. All the immortals need is a little push, and they will start committing evil without much interference from the demons. Wang Yue's plan is literally to have them reap what they sow. They help him make Chong Zi into a demon, and he just needs to come pick her up. If Chong Zi dies, he can just try again in her next life. There's no rush when you're waiting for the right timing.

Lemme explain: In the novel, Chong Zi was reincarnated into a different body, hence she would lose her demon aura if not for the special demon pill. But in the drama, she reincarnates into the same body (LYF resurrects her by making her a baby again), so her demon aura stays. The demon pill is not necessary for the story anymore, unless they find another reason to have it.

Ep.23-24 have the weakest writing in the show, imo. Unnecessary conflict and misunderstandings between the leads, unconvincing explanation of their separation, and very poor communication. Just when we thought their relationship was gonna be taken to another level with that kiss, he undoes it again. This is all just frustrating to the audience.
What I think the ML was trying to say to CZ before he got interrupted: "I have decided. If it's time for me to get married, then I shall marry the person I truly love. There is nothing between me and Zhuo Yun Ji. The person in my heart is you. Will you marry me?" *takes out the hairpin* (Giving a hairpin as a gift in a historical setting means marriage proposal)
