As someone who is not much into wuxias / xianxian dramas, but loved ice fantasy (mostly because of yand da and…
Between LAR and AOL, LAR has angsty moments regularly sprinkled throughout and a more sophisticated storyline, while AOL has a few huge angsty parts in the latter half and a huge chunk of screentime distributed to villains and a SML who's character depth is deeper than the leads. I enjoyed AOL more by a hair, so it depends on your preference really. Tbh the drama that seems to meet your requirement the most is another drama which has not aired (will probably air at Q1 next year) titled "Till The End of The Moon".
Forgive me as I have not read the novel. But I'm confused on Rong Hao's character. He obviously has "evil" intentions…
The novel and drama are quite different, so I'm not sure if I can answer your question accurately. In the novel, Rong Hao one-sidedly wants to revive his master, even though Chi Di Nu Zi herself does not even want to be revived and wants to protect Xiao Lan Hua's life instead. Rong Hao is so desperate about the revival that he starts using dark magic and becomes devoured by evil. Clearly, Chi Di Nu Zi disapproves of all this because she is a good person. In fact, Rong Hao has a bad nature in him since the beginning. During the battle between CDNZ and DFQC, Rong Hao pulled off a sneak attack and caused DFQC to lose the battle. As a result, DFQC believes heavenly realm is hypocritical and wants to have a rematch with CDNZ, which is the reason why he wants to revive her in the novel version. His motivations are changed in the drama.
There's a lot of deviation from the details and sub plots, but the basic outline of the story is somewhat similar…
Similarities: - Orchid falls into Hao Tian tower and releases DFQC - Orchid has the ability to revive souls so she is sought for by Chi Di Nu Zi's evil disciple/Hai Shi clan leader - Orchid willingly dies for DFQC (for different reasons in the novel vs drama version) and is revived by ML - In both versions, ML has a hidden agenda to revive Chi Di Nu Zi by taking advantage of FL, and FL misunderstands that he loves her
Differences: - Instead of ML and FL co-existing in ML's body at the beginning, they changed it to body swap - ML only spends so much time with FL at Si Ming temple in the drama version - ML is only bounded by FL's spell in the drama - Only the drama has a SML - The reason that ML revives Chi Di Nu Zi is different - in the novel, he revives her so they can have a rematch; in the drama, he revives her to unseal his people - There is a long arc in the novel where the ML tries to create a body for Chi Di Nu Zi but FL possesses that body thinking it is for her. This arc is removed in the drama and replaced by SML's mortal arc. - Novel male lead is more harmful to FL, he knows she will die once Chi Di Nu Zi is revived, but lets it happen anyway. He fails to understand his feelings until she dies. The novel also does not go into detail their life as a couple. In the drama, we get to see them spending time as an official couple and fighting for each other.
I'm dying for the couple dynamics in this. Even though ML is the strongest being in the world, he can't deal with our little orchid. It's too cute. Reminds me of a Chinese chess game called "Dou Shou Qi" (English: Jungle/Beast Chess) where the strongest piece is the elephant and the weakest piece is the mouse, but the mouse can defeat the elephant. ML is used to using power and violence to solve problems, but when he has to be gentle and care for FL, it's like the most difficult task he has ever had to deal with.
I really like SML's character, but I'm all for ML and FL CP. The reason is because whenever FL is in trouble, including being bullied by her fellow "heavenly realm folks", ML is the only one who would stand by her side regardless of situation. Even SML hesitates and cannot be there for her in the face of trouble because of his role and responsibilities. Despite belonging to the heavenly realm, Xiao Lan Hua was seldom regarded as a part of it, and occasionally would even be harmed by the heavenly realm. I doubt she even has a strong sense of belonging to this place. On the other hand, DFQC did nothing but good things for her. Being weakest fairy there and being alone without support for a long time, Xiao Lan Hua needs someone who can be there for her, someone who does not bat an eyelid to the rigid rules of the heavenly realm. This is something that the SML could not do (in a timely manner) and what caused Xiao Lan Hua to eventually fall for DFQC. SML is a great man, but sadly they aren't meant to be.
The previous poster was more beautiful. Why they changed it?
Honestly they shouldn't have. This new poster is actually just promotional material made to celebrate Chinese Valentine's Day. It's not even a cover poster.
i think the drama removed the whole part of her trying to find a new body and replaced it with sml plot i’m…
The mortal realm also did not exist in the novel. I think they swapped out some of the less interesting part in the novel with a new mortal realm part that is about SML
For those who are curious about what the relationship is between Xiao Lan Hua and the goddess of war [Don't read…
Xiao Lan Hua is a special herb with a strong soul that is capable of reviving lost souls (this explains why her soul is so strong that even someone as powerful as Dong Fang Qing Cang could not get her out of his body). She was created by Chi Di Nu Zi/goddess of war (played by Cristy Guo) but when goddess died, the herb went missing (as seen in the prologue of ep.1). Xiao Lan Hua has no recollection of her past so she does not know this. She was found by Si Ming. There is even more to her backstory but I won't spoil it. You'll just have to watch lol
TLDR: Xiao Lan Hua is somewhat connected to the goddess of war but she is not the goddess of war.
