I have a question to novel readers. I know that due to censorship and whatnot, MZQ is a lot less darker but from…
MZQ is definitely darker and more ruthless in the novel, which they're probably afraid to adapt in entirety, so they toned him down with different tactics.
For example, at the beginning when MZQ murdered MM 16 times, they made it into a comedy to prevent the audience from viewing him negatively. They also changed the bamboo forest scene. In the novel, ZQ purposefully made MM go into the bamboo forest and put her in danger (although he gave her a protective talisman beforehand, it was still considered rather evil), but in the drama, they toned it down even more by making it a genuine mistake.
I'm not sure how sanitized the main characters have to be in order to pass censorship, as this is a rather arbitrary standard, but they took noticeable measures to make ZQ less hateable. I even think censorship is only partially the reason they did so, and another strong reason is so that the audience can ship the leads more comfortably and avoid moral judgment. In fact, ZQ isn't the only sanitized character. MM was also rewritten to not have to compete with MY for LFY, as that was part of the mission in the novel - pretending to love LFY. In the drama, MM gets to be sisters with MY and all of these changes make the story more marketable and fit for the modern audience.
However, certain novel fans love the novel BECAUSE it is dark, and they do find ZQ hot for being a black lotus, so if they removed that entirely from his character it would've been disappointing for novel fans. So I believe they did try to keep some of that in him and that's why people are happy with the recent development of things.
As much as the last 2 episodes were heartbreaking , we honestly needed the episode with the bracelet showcasing…
I love how good the writer is at foreshadowing. I'm guessing the bracelet is what caused Zi Qi's father to leave his mother? If so, then that bracelet has caused so much emotional damage to Zi Qi, both then and now...
I know MY and LFY are nonpc characters but holy fuck, they have no personality. At all. You would think that with…
I understand what you mean. They still behave like NPCs even though Miao Miao should've changed them by now. A lot of the side characters (some only appearing for a few episodes) were enhanced and made to be more three-dimensional, but Mu Yao and Liu Da Ge still have a lot of room for improvement despite being a part of the main cast.
Oh, I was so surprised by their odd reaction. How could they actually believe that she loves him? But then I thought……
I remember when Mu Yao and Liu Da Ge left Lin Yu's house at the beginning, they didn't say farewell to her because Mu Yao thinks Lin Yu should live a regular life and not develop a bond with them. So even if Miao Miao suddenly decides to leave the gang, it would be in character for Mu Yao to think it makes perfect sense.
i cant bear to watch lmm forgetting herself and her feelings and hurting ziqi, but well i do pity his brother…
I like how even in the midst of misunderstanding between the leads, the screenwriter is also giving the other characters a chance to show some emotional response towards the situation. It's a sign of good writing and thoughtfulness on the screenwriter's part. It makes us understand and feel for all the different characters.
She was literally fighting the bracelet to get to Mu Sheng! She really wanted to help him tie his hair but couldn't…
It shows her love towards Mu Sheng, which has been hidden from us audiences for a long time! We only got to see Mu Sheng's favorability score all along, but now we get to see how much Miao Miao loves and cares about him too <3
