1. All the cliches: drunk sex with an enemy, Morning after regret, Uea has a homophobic and abusive mother, cheating…
Choppy: the lights go out and Uea panics. He gets comforted by his enemy because this moment is deeply traumatic to him. Then we see Uea sitting in his apartment reliving the traumatic experience. I would have rather seen him get in his car to calm down from the experience instead of a cut to his apartment.
Smooth: the progression from the karaoke bar through the morning after when Uea freaks out finding himself next to King. We see how they get from one place to the other both physically and emotionally. We see that King has no intention of taking advantage of a drunk Uea, and we also see that Uea is suffering because of the boyfriend and his mom’s harassment. The cause of his drunken state.
I really don't understand why there is so much hatred under the comments about non-consensual sex or drunken sex.…
🥰🥰🥰 Everyone interprets these scenes differently and everyone should be able to share those views. If you don’t like someone’s views, simply don’t reply to their comment!
what you didn't like about this series, guys, pls? 😮💨😥anyone a list?
1. All the cliches: drunk sex with an enemy, Morning after regret, Uea has a homophobic and abusive mother, cheating boyfriend turned stalker, King is a major Casanova etc.
2. All the camera and scene cuts. It felt liked it jumped around from one scene to the other without smooth transitions.
3. It felt they were trying to throw in so much background information like Uea’s mother, cheating boyfriend, hatred of King etc. versus letting the story unfold and showing us these events. We now know that Uea has the most depressing life and King will become his “Knight in Shining Armor.”
4. Another work environment where they do absolutely nothing for work lol
I am fairly easy to please, so none of these things are deterring me from watching the show. I absolutely love the serious tone. The confrontation after the drunken night gave me the feels. It wasn’t brushed off as a joke, but both took it serious.
i think that is also rape. thats like together with me: bad romance, where the guy is drugged and is almost raped…
Thanks for sharing that example. I haven’t seen that one and I’m interested to see how the woman was stopped. Rape happens in relationships where women are abusive, and the aggressor. I’m (not) surprised that this dynamic isn’t shown more. It’s not nearly as interesting or exciting or appealing to the masses.
This reminds me of the debate in History 4. Remember the cringe of the stepbrother getting his stepbrother drunk…
Yes I remember that moment! I had to pause the entire show both during and after that scene. The writers made the younger brother do it so intentionally versus other shows where it’s just one thing that leads to another. I’m still not over that scene.
It'd still be wrong. Pretty sure that's what happened in Love by Chance with Techno and Kengkla.
Techno was the drunk bottom in “Love By Chance.” I can’t recall a single series where the bottom is sober and the top is drunk and both engage in sex. I’m sure it exists somewhere in the universe. But as it stands, this consistency perpetuates the idea that men cannot be raped by women.
This debate about non-consensual sex is interesting. In many of these BLs, it is the receiver who is drunk , so Im curious if this would be debated if it were the giver who is drunk…. Imagine a sober receiver forcing the giver to penetrate them. I’d be interested in seeing the comments of a series where they have a sober bottom engaging a drunk top into sex.
I also like the serious tone and I don’t mind the ratchet chaos right now. They need to show gay characters…
I’m crying buckets 😭😭😭 One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers, so I was committed from the start. But they are hella boring with not much of a story. I can definitely see why they may not appeal to you.

I’m realizing why I love side couples so much. They give us just enough story to keep us interested, without getting bored. Unfortunately “Between Us” suffered from this: people loved Team and Win in UWMA, but found them boring in BU. I’m glad they are not continuing NuerSyn’s story, but giving them a new story.
I’m not sure people think THAT part of the relationship is romantic or cute.
I definitely agree that the writers should upgrade their storytelling. I’m tired of sex scenes used to draw audiences in but isn’t adding anything to the story. We should get a bunch of us together, write a BL, and submit to GMMTV lol.
Even when they do make BLs using different storytelling tactics, MDL finds a way to complain about that too. I appreciate your open mindedness. Such a rare find on MDL!

This is what I got from reading the thread: It doesn’t read that they think it is cute or romantic, but that it is okay to have this form of sexual contact as a plot point because it is part of story telling. Essentially, every writer has the right to whatever storytelling methods available to them and if you don’t like it, drop the show.
I don’t think it’s necessary to drop a show because you don’t like something about it, and I think you have every right to dislike this plot point. Consent in sex is one of the most debated topics I see on MDL, and you should be able to discuss it without the queen coming after your head.

Please try not to take this the wrong way. I am not attacking you personally.
It feels like people attack this plot point and focus their judgement of the show on this one point. Mostly it’s the fact that Uea is drunk and people feel he cannot consent to King. Yes, their friends with benefits relationship begins on a sour note, but their relationship should develop with time. In the next episode, King accompanies Uea to the hospital which screams boyfriend who cares, not FWB. In episode 1, it’s clear that King cares for Uea more than he actually shows Uea.
Storytelling is an art form and yes some writers do it poorly, but the show should be looked at holistically. People like the character development, how the romance unfolds, use of the side characters, plot etc. the drunk sex is an overused vehicle to get the rising action going. I definitely agree this series is already full of cliches and overused plot construction, but honestly there is nothing new out there.
Yes this plot line is overdone: hate fueled drunk sex, morning after regret, one lead has a sob story and/or homophobic parent etc. However, I am pleased with the serious tone of this series. It’s a nice change of pace from all the comedic sound effects and the silliness of the high school romances.
I hope “Middleman’s Love” has similar vibes. I didn’t care for SynNuea’s bed scene in “Cutie Pie 2.” They overdid the comedic elements of that scene.
I want to throw a question out here. Why is a kiss on the lips such a significant thing to see in shows? Is it…
I almost feel like people think that if a couple isn’t kissing or having sex then they don’t have a real relationship. Just because (American) teens are so sexual doesn’t mean that all teens are. This portrayal of their relationship is perfect for them. Now if a show has two people having sex in the earlier episodes and then they never kiss, I would understand. But this is perfect for “My School President” because this isn’t a sexual show and they are in high school.
