Your comment had me dying!!!I do agree that regardless if it’s fiction or not, the plot has to make sense. Especially…
You nailed it in that 3rd paragraph. The couple wanting to get married has me questioning why? The entire show she doesn’t have. Single nice thing to say about him. And the fact this is pre-filmed and released makes it worse.
I love that Yu Zhen and Shi Lei are very natural actors! I agree with you that they make everything seem so natural and they have fantastic chemistry. Their actions and reactions fit their characters and regardless of the genre, that’s what makes good characterization. I absolutely love Shi Lei’s conversation with his mother: his apprehension of confessing he likes men. One of my most favorite “coming out” confessions. (I dislike the usage of “coming out” because I feel that people should be able to confess who they like without worry of ridicule and non-acceptance. We don’t use that phrasing for hetero so….) sorry I digress.
I’m so happy to see someone else doesn’t like the excuse of it’s fiction. I am okay when we point out it being fiction when situations don’t go as we hoped, but not for poor writing of the plot and character.
Omg the central plot of this is so fucking annoying >< whoever wrote this should have ditched the ‘no dating’…
Your comment had me dying!!!
I do agree that regardless if it’s fiction or not, the plot has to make sense. Especially since the two leads have fallen for each other, there was no need for the whole “no dating rule”. In addition the engaged couple really provide no plot advancement other than to create conflict. Which, again, is unnecessary. Although I adore that type of plot, it just wasn’t executed well. It may have been better if the engaged couple actually felt like they were in a relationship. Or better yet, they should have snuck around and got caught later. Even the cafe owner and the student were approved to date for no reason at all. That approval seems to be outside of YZ’s character.
The changes in the relationship that SL and YZ experience is so realistic and that definitely should have been the focal point. I’m low-key mad that YZ and the ex have kisses and the main couple has yet to do anything. Even the ooops we accidentally kissed scene was not great. The 2nd couple have, I am inferring, slept together at this point. Or they just have so heavy petting of their body parts.
I do like the main leads together and I do enjoy their characters. I’m also happy this show doesn’t pretend to be anything more than a sweet romance.
Soooooo is it me or did they mark Zhou Shu Yi as the top and Gao Shi De as bottom? I’m referring to the morning after the drunk confrontation between the two men. I damn near died when I saw GSD wince as he looks behind him.
Am I the only one assuming Nut took time off from school after the catching-his-boyfriend-in-bed-with-another-dude…
I am going to try to put my thoughts about them into words so please forgive me if I write something and it doesn’t go over well.
I agree that both leads look strange, but only when they are together. I don’t mind the coupling of Nut and Ball because aesthetics are pleasing, but when Nut is with Tha, the aesthetic is off. I think Tha would look fine with Latte or Nine. The strangeness comes from the way their characters are written/acted out.
I’m not used to the ML of a BL being as effeminate as Nut. They usually make effeminate men the side characters for comedic relief or friend of the lead. He definitely breaks against the stereotypes which I love, however it is paired with immaturity so I find myself cringing and asking “how old are you again?” Sun from Golden Blood looks older in comparison to Sky and that dynamic works well in that series.
I think My personal grievances come from the show being more comedic and immature despite the ML being older. In 1000 Stars, Phupha was almost a decade older than Tian, and they both had characteristics of their life gap. Pha was very mature, with immature moments making him insanely likable. He wasn’t serious 100% of the time and knew when to play around with Tian; he also knew when to act like an adult and give him life lessons. (I don’t care for Earth as an actor.)
In addition, too many people have been commenting on Tha’s eyebrows so now when I look at his character, I am constantly drawn to them. Before I didn’t even notice them being so bushy haha I’m not sure if any of my comments help in identifying the strangeness, but thanks for letting me share.
Am I the only one assuming Nut took time off from school after the catching-his-boyfriend-in-bed-with-another-dude…
He seems to work to help his family so that is another option. Five years is a long time for a cheating lover, although I’m sure his self-esteem took a big hit. I hope there IS a deeper reason for the sake of character development.
Am I the only one assuming Nut took time off from school after the catching-his-boyfriend-in-bed-with-another-dude…
This makes sense! We aren’t given any other motive so I will support your theory. But let’s not forget he didn’t actually cheat… it was just sex so it doesn’t count. (Sigh)
The issue isn't a 27-year old playing a high schooler, it's writing yet another high school story when you have…
You make some great points here. KinnPorche and 1000 stars is/was highly anticipated for the originality in the plot. People are tired of watching the same plots over and over and find it refreshing to see a show that doesn’t take place in high school or college. As a working professional in my 30’s, the last thing I want to see is a repeat of BookFrame from Make It Right. I would prefer to see working professionals and how they balance their careers and love life such as shown in What Did You Eat Yesterday?
I would also agree that these forums are there for people to have a discussion about shows. TV is social and it is a challenge to find others interested in this content in daily interactions. I wouldn’t be here if I had friends who enjoy BL content as much as I do.
I can only speak for myself here, but what can be frustrating is seeing the same commenters on every BL page posting negative comments about the shows that people are enjoying. There is nothing wrong with critiquing a show, however, the comments don’t come off as critiquing. It really comes across as people just complaining and being argumentative because they have nothing better to do. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I love reading the different interpretations of characters and stories. The viewers have no control over casting, plot etc so I would prefer the critiquing to stay within the realm of the show itself. When commenters start expressing their displeasure with things that viewers have no control, it takes the fun out of the banter. If commenters have problems with casting, lack of originality, product placement etc, take it to a platform that may actually reach the people who can change it.
If there is content that I don’t like (rape to be specific) I drop the show. I don’t go over to MDL and soapbox on how much I hate the show because of the non-consent. I notice people do this ALOT. Instead of condemning the character, they condemn an entire show. Shows are made with different audiences in mind, so not everyone is going to like everything. If it’s not your cup of tea, then drop it, move on, and find a show that fits your interests. (This is by no means directed at you personally.)
I know right! Lately a lot of BL comments section are like their own drama xD
They hate on the show and comment each and every week about how the plots are so recycled… no creativity… the actors suck… and question how anyone could possibly like the characters or the show. You’d think they would drop the show and find another genre of TV, but we aren’t so lucky.
I mean, I personally prefer older actors than actual underage teenagers playing bl roles, that would make me feel…
OMO YES @ jace @ Tyler. This reminds me of the complaints about the kiss scene in Color Rush. The last thing I want to see in a high school BL is a bunch of teens making out and humping like rabbits. It makes me feel ten times better knowing the actors are older playing high school students.
Ugh that happened to me with this and Nitiman. I’m glad both shows come out on different days so the “black…
So I wasn’t sure if there was a way to DM you on MDL so I’m replying here. I read one of the novels, Advance Bravely, and I didn’t expect it to be so good. I choose that one first because I saw they did a live action. I then watched the show and I don’t regret my Zombie Face at all.
you have said a whole lot of things that I agree with. I LOVE jin and bbombs relationship. like my favorite parts…
Yes!!!! Those scenes are gold. I especially love when Jin confronts Bbomb for being MIA for a week. Jin did such a great job expressing his frustration and hurt through his expressions. I hope we get more of these affectionate moments.
Omo people hated on Second Chance so much. I’m glad to see someone else enjoyed the story. I fall in love with characters. I am so fascinated with analyzing character motivation. I can always empathize with characters whether I agree with them or not. I don’t think I have ever watched a show where I couldn’t understand the character’s motivations so it’s hard for me to just hate a show.
I'm looking forward to seeing an older student that is not a fetish, and I hope there aren't too many wacky sound…
I hate sound effects soooooo much! They are so distracting from the show and it is lazy writing. If something is supposed to be funny, shocking etc. it should be shown in the characters actions and dialogue. Not sound effects..
I also agree that this storyline is out of the ordinary in the college shows. I have never seen an “older” student. They do exist and I hope this show explores it nicely. Unless he just looks older and is actually their age..
I love the interactions between them too. There feels something realistic (for a drama) about them. I adore the…
I think we may be in the minority based on some of the comments here haha. I almost feel their interactions are more affectionate and not sexually based. Y Destiny, for example, is a major sexfest. I agree with you we don’t get enough affection in series.
The nurse hates Dr. Cha because he gave the patient dying of cancer a mercy killing. The patient was responsible…
To answer your question, yes Dr. Cha knows about his crimes. For Dr. Cha, it was all about the pain. When he decided to euthanize the pain patient, it was because Cha was feeling burdened with not being able to control the dying man’s suffering. He could only give him so much pain relief and then he would have to reduce it for fear of overdose. When the patient asked Cha to end his suffering, Cha didn’t make the decision lightly.
I think they will learn he is a good Doctor and a good man. He never intended for things to get that far. And since Cha suffers from the rare illness where he doesn’t feel any pain, I think he connects to his patients in a different level.
I do agree that two wrongs don’t change things. All it causes is more suffering. I can only imagine what it is like to lose a young child so I really do feel for the nurse. She may be a “bitch”, but I think she has every right to be.
why does that female nurse hate Dr. Cha so bad? who was the little boy who died? is the man who wanted Dr. Cha…
The nurse hates Dr. Cha because he gave the patient dying of cancer a mercy killing. The patient was responsible for the death of the nurse’s two young children. So unbearably sad. The nurse wanted the dying man to suffer and pay for his crimes. Because Dr. Cha killed him, she never got closure from her children’s deaths.
The man who wanted Dr. Cha to do 10 years is the prosecutor of the case. I don’t think him and the nurse have any relationship other than they both want to keep Dr. Cha from practicing medicine. She also testified that the patient wanted to live. She provided a signed consent form for a clinical trial. But it was forged by her. They don’t want a repeat of what happened 3 years ago.
I’m on episode 19/32 so I’m not sure about the young boy who died. I believe the nurse had one boy and one girl. I hope this helps, my friend.
You were not the only one confused… in the trailer there is the question of him looking older for his age. But…
It was right after Tha is beaten up after his performance. They think Tha is hitting on some guy’s girl. Nie and Jadai sleep together and they have the cutest pink Winnie the Pooh bedsheets. I have no idea why I even remembered that detail haha
Jin and and Bomb are one of my favorite couples on interactions alone. Because I find it so refreshing to see partners be honest with one another. Jin knows that Bomb likes him and continues to be friends despite Jin being unsure of his feelings. He even admits he likes Bomb instead of running away and avoiding him. When Bomb asks Jin if he is embarrassed about their relationship, Jin says he doesn’t like the way people look at them. How can you not fall in love with a response like that? So many of these stories have insecure couples who don’t share their feelings and let the emotions pile on, but Jin is honest whenever Bomb asks an emotional question.
They have only known each other for a few months (as in actually having conversations) and dated only a few weeks. Their relationship is bound to have issues of jealousy. This is also exacerbated by their exes. Jin confronting Bomb about the friend he’s been texting and the condom may seem immature… however, I would much rather be confronted then my partner making up synopsis in their head and misunderstanding the situation. This happened to Jin when he believed Aim and Bomb were dating. He could have easily asked, but jumped to a conclusion that could have ended in much greater harm. They seem to resolve issues that come up rather quickly though.
Bomb is clearly jealous of Jin’s interactions with Boss, however, he has been observing not saying a word. I can see where that story may be headed: unnecessary conflict that could be avoided if Bomb tells Jin how he’s feeling. Yes, there should be a level of trust, however, trust is earned. They haven’t established enough of a relationship to not have those honest human feelings of jealousy and insecurity, but they portray the emotions rather well.
Some of the writing is weird though. The entire condom fiasco and the events leading to it had me scratching my head…ummm I don’t think there is anything I can say to justify that. And Bomb offering to show Jin just how small the condom was had me dying.
Don’t get me started on Keam’s crazy excuse to sleep in Ball’s room. Even Ball was hesitant… like Keam there are so many bushes around the dorm. Choose one. Keam’s only saving grace is the possibility that he is trying to explore his attraction to Ball. He better not have a girlfriend anymore or this will be an unnecessary conflict they have to resolve in a rushed unsatisfying way. I’m sure I’m missing something.
I think this looks interesting. I'm kinda confused how much older that one guy is supposed to be. B/c in the trailer…
You were not the only one confused… in the trailer there is the question of him looking older for his age. But he also walks in on his boyfriend sleeping with another man, so That caught me off guard too. They made Nut shorter than Tha which could be an indication Nut is younger too. I know height doesn’t dictate age, but in shows they do that a lot. They also call him Uncle which can be either older age or older face. I was debating which synopsis I would rather see… based solely on the trailer, I hope he simply LOOKS older than his actual age. I don’t think I would be able to handle the immaturity if he is indeed an older student. I would want a more serious tone in a series that deals with a relationship with such a vast life experience age gap. I don’t think I will be disappointed either way.
On a side note, I love Nie and Jadai’s bedsheets in the trailer!
I see your point about the slowness - I noticed the same thing negatively in the other couples. What makes it…
OMG! Your reference about dragging someone from the street is such a great description.
I found Nuea’s character to be flashy and over the top, however, I have never viewed his actions as sexual harassment (even if Sun was a woman). His intention was not to sleep with Sun, but to actually have a relationship. A clear distinction between Puth and Kaeng. Choke initiating a hand job is much closer to sexual harassment/ assault than Nuea’s not so subtle flirting. Even Kaeng’s constant begging of sex with Puth is harassment. The car scene after the dinner when Kaeng is forcing himself on Puth under the guise of “I can prove you have feelings for me” is assault. Is Nuea’s advances 100 percent harmless? NO! However, calling it harassment is a stretch for me. When I was referring to his courtship as being non-sexual: of course people want to sleep with the one they like. Nuea is no different, however, he never made that the focus of his feelings. He truly like Sun and Sun liked Nuea. Just as many of the characters in Y Destiny, Nuea is a playboy and he toned down his ways for the sake of falling in love. I can only imagine his actions if Sun was just a score.
In addition, I also believe sexual assault can be committed even if the recipient doesn’t verbally say no: body language is a good indicator of non-consent.
I’m super curious and terrified of reading your comments about History 4 haha that show is dripping with controversy in the consent realm. I truly appreciate the engage in discourse and not just the simple comment. It’s awesome to have actual virtual conversations about these shows. Other than the beginning of Sat/Choke, did you like any other coupling?
