31th episode was beyond heartbreaking, I've started this drama to alleviate the sadness of Love Like the Galaxy yet now I'm crying again. I wasn't expecting this much tragedy in such a bright looking drama. That battlefield alone deserves an applause, all that pain caused by the greedy celestials, that emperor needs to be on a stake.

The story in Eternal Love of Dream is faithful to the novel, therefor the characterization for Bai FengJiu and Dijun is a lot different in better way. She is still obsessed with Dijun but she is graceful as a princess should be and although it is not in a romantic way Dijun actually cares for her very early on. Their actions have solid reasonings behind them and personally I love the storyline of Eternal Love of Dream more than Eternal Love.

I'm at episode 4 but their chemistry is just so so, does it get any better?

The original word is "transmigrate" and the person who transmigrates to another dimension/time/place is called a transmigrator, it is not a real word but I've came across this form of usage in web novels etc. Hence, I've used it here too. I'm not sure if there is a real word for that though :D

I won't be able get over this anytime soon yet I really don't have the heart to watch Shao Shang's bittersweet life to unfold from the start. I love how they concluded the drama version, how everyone actually came for her when she needed the most but I'm still not as mature as Shao Shang to let go of my disappointment, although everything is meaningless in front of death I still wouldn't be able to believe in those who let me down once already.
I'm glad that they've toned down the Zisheng's psychopath tendencies in the drama, I doubt I'd like his character as much as I do now if they were more faithful to the novel version.
Also, the fact that Shao Shang wasn't a transmigrator is the biggest leverage of the drama version, because otherwise there is no chance for anyone to repent for their mistakes towards Shao Shang given the fact that she has already died back then when she was ill.
p.s. where the hell was the eldest brother of Shao Shang and 2nd brother of general Chen when it was all rain and hail storms out there. We never hear about their well being at the end. I doubt that Shao Shang ever met her brother in this setting.

Episode 51 just broke my heart and soul. Shao Shang's farewell scene with her mother is just too sad. Everyone abandoned Shao Shang, she gave her all to whoever showed the slightest kindness yet still she was never anyone's priority. I'm glad that at least empress was in her life. And as for Bu Yi, he really does not deserve her, she had only one wish yet he still could not make it right. Good or bad, she wanted someone to stay with her till the very end...

Umm, it's not about believing blindly but reading several similar reviews does help to form a negative opinion. I've read many web novels with similar premises, read them despite the negative comments and more often than not the reviews were on point. Hence, from my point of view my concern about the novel is valid. But you have seem to read this novel, so I would love to read your take on characters or maybe you can reference a review that you think that represents the novel best :)

A review on novel updates made me very prejudiced. So, here is the direct quote.
"So, the MC is this perfect beautiful magical girl sent back in time after being pampered in her sect to kill the demon king. She proceeds to not do that, be okay with the demon king acting incredibly devilish and killing all sorts of people and having them r*ped etc, and then be all super sympathetic for poor demon baby guy (because she's a total psychopath herself). Anyway things get complicated with MC oh so comedically trying to hypocritically and not really stop ML as he murders tons of innocent women and men and do all sorts of atrocities for power. (Author loves to play up that ML isn't bad it's just his nature haha so it's fine to murder people and do evil stuff especially since he has tragic backstory.) MC fakes her death teehee and then ML kills tons of people. ML before r*ped MC and had tons of fun torturing but boohoo he feels sad after he has MC killed. Anyway later MC comes back and says I love you but I don't love you and they both romantically die together then get happy endings. Forget all the suffering of the other people involved because we do not care about non-protagonists. This is disgusting "

I get where you are coming from, both characters have a special place in my heart and it all comes down to personal preference :)

I've read some nasty stuff about the novel so I hope it shall divert from the source material in the best way possible. Also, I don't mind evil leads, or cruelty as long as they acknowledge their wrongdoings and not try to paint themselves as righteous, gullible or in short a freaking white lotus.
That seems to be the case for the heroine in the novel, so I hope she'll be more than a damsel in distress who pities a devil incarnate because he has a tragic past. I love Bai Lu and Yun Xi, so my fingers are crossed for this one :)

I think I enjoy the restrained emotions that just spills over the characters more, there is nothing epic about Shao Shang's mundane life yet it is still enchanting, on the other hand Chang Ge always had a certain sense of spark and adventure in her life. Both of them are spectacular characters but I could identify more with Shao Shang due to her familial problems whilst admiring her wittiness, as for Chang Ge, her way of going against the waves fits with a more traditional heroine, she is amazing but also frustrating to watch whenever she tries to swallow more than she can chew.
Also, production value of The Long Ballad shines through in it's different settings of culture while LLtG is more focused on mundane yet realistic character portrayal. So, I wouldn't put these two dramas in the same category, one is more adventure focused whilst the other is more character focused.

I know the ending, I knew it from the start but the misleading trailers are still giving me a heartache. I'm embarrassed to admit but I actually cried watching them.

I don't think we'll see a drama with this caliber of acting, writing and directing quality for the upcoming couple of years. Its story telling ability is simply stellar. There are some works that are just special, they stay with you even after the passage of countless years, I think for me this drama is one of them.
I love Zhao Lusi's acting and she made a wonderfully vivacious portrayal of her character Shao Shang whilst Wu Lei made my heart ache for Ling Bu Yi, and the supporting cast was beyond and above. I cried, laughed, got angry and scared with them, for them. Sometimes, it feels surreal how much we can come to care for these fictitious characters and that is ultimate testament of a production's overall quality.

I can't bring myself to watch latest episodes before knowing exact ending. Frustration and anxiety is catching up to me.

After few couple of screams it grows on you. They were supposed to be heart wrenching type of moments yet gosh, the frequency of them is just hilarious. That my friends, is what I call a writer's block XD
Give it a go, if the screams annoy you too much you can always mute it :D

I'm trying to save the episodes for binge watching but this comment section is testing my patience. I need my fix of LLtG yet I don't want to leave my self all high and dry after going through my pile.

p.s. I currently re-watching all my favorite dramas to preserve against the itch, anyone else?

It has been a long while since I've seen such a well fleshed characters on a Chinese modern mini-series. I went in for fluffy stress free romance drama and left with puffy eyes and a lasting bittersweet feeling on my chest. I cried my heart out whenever Lin family came together, a parent always hopes the best for his/her child, yet those feelings are often hidden beneath the mundane everyday life, cut short with harsh well intended naggings... Only in front of farewells we have the courage to speak, only after it's too late we realize.

I knew Yang Zi was a competent actress therefor I had some degree of trust before going in for this drama but truthfully I wasn't expecting much from their chemistry yet they totally blew me away, that nose nudging thing that Xiao Zhan did gave a whole new dimension of closeness for on screen pairs. I shied away from the The Untamed due to its immense popularity, plus BL is not a genre I usually go for, so I had no idea about Xiao Zhan's acting prowess but now I'm totally in for his future works.

p.s. There is this one scene where Gu Wei runs away due to some set backs in his work and Lin Zhi Xiao sorts him out, it was beyond amazing, every word she said in that scene felt like a slap to my face and a punch to my guts, I applaud the writer for such well articulated words and Yang Zi for performing the scene with such a resoluteness.
