The way all the secrets got unfold is disappointing to me. Everyone found out about everything casually. No shocking situations or whatever, they were just told all the secrets and didn't find out by themselves.

I’m saying that generally women are seen as more attractive/good looking than men. Of course beauty is subjective. It’s just that “subjectivally” most of the world agrees that women are more attractive than men.

I’m pretty sure most of the world disagrees with you but okay. Look is subjective when it comes to people of the same sex. Women are according to multiple studies throughout the decades are seen as more attractive than men. Even straight women would hardly disagree. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t some men who are better looking than some women, it’s just that their average is lower. A lot of men think they are more attractive than they are perceived, and a lot of women regardless of their personal prefrence think (other) women are more attractive than men, even if they never choose women as partners or don’t prefer men who are “as pretty as a girl”. Not going to have a very long discussion about this since they’re only studies and their results may become invalid in the future. Just let’s agree to disagree and move on.

This show is for marriage. She wouldn’t have picked him if it was just for dating or just because she like how he looks. I think maybe she thought she had a better chance since being slightly overweight isn’t usually that big of a deal to a foreigner.

Also, maybe you should stop treating Asia as one person. Generalizing a whole continent is very bold and the stereotype will often (if not always) be very wrong. There are a lot of errors but can still be understood. It is good enough for this type of show. There is a version that is very bad though

I don’t think that’s true. We have traditional marriages in our (Asian) country too. In fact, dating (openly) before marriage is extremely rare and frowned upon here, but personality still matters in picking a partner, so is religion and values. Hobbies were only a consideration in the most recent years and depends on the mindset of the person who is getting married. All these things are taken into consideration. Korea as I know is way more open-minded about people getting to know each other before marriage, they often have blind dates to introduce a possible partner in a traditional marrriage. Money is important of course, but it’s not the only consideration even for traditional marriages.

Why is it so easy to kill a king but so hard to kill a mere court lady? She is disrespecting the queen dowager, competing with the queen, and she is even blackmailing the king himself but no one is able to make her disappear? No one will even ask about her or miss her. She is just a high ranked servant.

The bad scheming is getting rediculous. I think the writer is thinking "since the female lead is so good at baduk, she should be so good at predicting people moves and always ahead of them", but since the writer is lacking in that area, the female lead appears to the viewers to be just jumping to conclusions and her conclusions magically turn out to be true. Like when she "predicted" that the king's uncle wouldn't be able to see the princess' replacement's face because her replacement "won't show him her face". She just cannot cover her face just because she refused to show it. She won't be able to talk so that he won't recognize that it wasn't the princess' voice. When her veil fell the only thing she was able to do is to turn her head. If it wasn't for the luck of the ambasedor's interference, she would've been easily caught. The "he is definetly lying because there is no way he could've seen her face" was a total shot in the dark, she was just lucky it turned out to be true.

I get that the writer maybe using the sickness as a tool, but I think it's a wasted opportunity not to come up with a reason for her sickness. I don't like when non-leading characters are just used as NPCs and are only there to facilitate the leading characters' stories. There is room for everyone to shine, and the best dramas are the ones where every character has a story of its own.

She might be. I think it’s easy to poison anyone without actually serving them the food. For some reason they don’t do the testing for poison with silver spoon thing here or the court lady tester. When the king was getting poisoned, the prince was used as a tester for some reason. When he stopped testing, they got to him. Usually the king wouldn’t eat any food that wasn’t tested for poison.

I like how Sang Hyo is the only one who is very concerend about "Mong Woo" without actually knowing her identity or getting close to her. He is just a friendly human being with no hidden agenda.
