okay watching the subbed version on max ffw, but i am still sitting here hysterically laughing for the past two minutes at how bad not only this drama has gotten and how pisspoor these "redemption arcs" are constructed, but also how ridiculously terrible the dialogue is that wants you to shove the snakeman's oil down your throat in these scenes.

Yeah that is the sad irony of it all. The suits threw an actually good story developing away for a one time rating high that floundered and stagnated right after and ever since. It had been all pointless and no matter what shocking twists and turn to reproduce the effect the writer threw in there, nothing worked. Imo they were definitely hoping for a YLAG effect and in turn it ruined every coherence the story (once) had.

We also have to take the inexperience with weekenders in account here, and the way this writer approached the narrative which basically was like a 16-20 eps drama with all the focus mainly on the main couple instead to divert the narrative equally that you do in a 50 hour plot and fam drama. He only had written regular-sized kdramas with the exception of one daily before, so it seems he later on approached the story more like a dailies, which would explain the severe pacing issues and stretching out/dragging conflicts over several eps that had prior not been present and been solved in one or two max. Maybe he also fell in love with his villains while being bored by the main couple along the way. As it is quite apparent that he did not know how to tell stories of a couple once they got together and the will they won't they could no longer be used as a story tool. (shows in every couple in the show actually if you look closer) Hence the growing screentime for these obsessive assholes bc for him conflict = more interesting story no matter if it suits in there or not.

He also strikes me as the kind of writer who panics when nothing "exciting" happens for ten minutes straight and characters having simply a good time. I feel peaceful moments always were/are boring to him so he could not endure them longer than a few minutes at best. Like a child on too much sugar that cannot sit still and needs to bouuunce and move and be loud, basically lol. And explains he constant interruptions of any peaceful moments we had. Feels also that he fretted about how to keep things exciting to watch and thus threw in a lot of random things and conflicts without rhyme or reason, also for ratings sake as said. That of course completely offset the balance between conflict and respite characters need following solving such in a story. It became misery and strife all the time bc in his mind that seemed more exciting to watch but in reality it just exhausted everyone, actors and viewers alike. And this all does not take in account the writer's complete backward ass views on pretty much any issue prior sold as "progressive." I am sort of convinced by now that he does not like women much, otherwise i cannot explain the complete devaluation and lack of agency of every female character within here while propping up a literal abuser and stalker to his creator's pet. Sorry to say but i will think twice or rather fifty times before picking up another weekender with a male writer in the future, with how trivialized the harassment, stalking, emotional abuse and threats (toward YD) were. It still makes my skin crawl, thinking back to it and especially how this bastard has now been elevated to the sole star and writer's fave of the show without any of it being ever addressed, least of all punished.

But i already wrote too much again, bottom line is i hope this turd is never allowed close to a weekend drama again bc he utterly failed in everything. Narrative, themes, characters, romance, plot. There is not a single thing in this drama that remained well-executed or written. Especially not the sorry excuses for a "redemption arcs."

But yeah it was fun while it lasted. The timejump and shift in tone and focus etc ruined it all, tho. So much is clear by now.

It is indeed very educational on what NOT to do. In fact, I have never seen a story being this badly executed and fallen apart in all its several hundred pieces like that. It is kinda fascinating and disgusting alike (for me as hobbyist writer in particular) like watching apes in the zoo scratching their asses 😂

Nah, no kidnapping, that is a fakeout. Shithead took the child and left in his car bc she was crying and sick and he panicked i guess, idk don't ask. i don't know either. However preview shows this bastard back at the gongs house, and almost being murdered by TK (sadly just almost) so i guess he brought Haneul there? Idek atp, seriously. The stupidity of it all makes my head hurt, my cat can create a better, more coherent plot in her litterbox with a stinking pile of 💩 than this writer guy with ten fingers and no brains.

What is safe to say is that we are once again gonna be just spectators in the kim junha show in the final eps, as characters are gonna sing his praises for allowing the adoption to happen and then will follow the details of his happy ending painstakingly, as this writer won't let us miss a moment of his darling and ensure he gets the best and most rewarding send off of all characters. TK/YD maybe get 2-5 minutes of peaceful moments and happy ending montage if he is feeling generous, and it does not detract from the focus on kim junha long enough, mind. If you want a wedding ceremony to happen, you better pick up another family drama, because here it won't. That would be too much focus put on the lead couple and noooo we don't do that here in kim junha has come. Tsk.

😂I love your posts, just wanted to say that before it is over and we are all free from this cursed existence of being with this drama. Here is my theory, fellow tinfoil hat: I do know from my buddy that TRHC has changed production teams midway through, hence i very much surmise that the pressure of the suits upstairs were responsible for the changes in order to create ratings and buzz thru cliches and aaaaaaaangst. As i will not be tired to mention how Inok had been mapped out as reasonable person that comes around two eps later, with the lead couple then going on their beach date in eps 36 and we were to see them growing together going from that point forward, focusing on family stories, once again style. (back then there was a rumor of marriage even right after around eps 37/38 and the timejump coming then after that with haneul being born around family instead YD alone)

Plus this redemption arc that is forced down our throats now waaaay too late in the kim junha show was supposed to happen around eps 30-ish w/o the bastard going off the rails as he then did. Everything that is happening now with the writer's stinky pet is actually the og redemptive arc this hack is stubbornly now still pushing thru, no matter if it fits or not. You know just like eps 40 felt like it was supposed to follow the freakout of momzilla in eps 33?

To me it feels as though the premature timejump demanded by the new production firm suits completely broke his neck as he had a vision and plan before but now was forced to throw away everything reasonable and good he'd mapped out. From there on out writer turd struggled to pick up the pieces caused by the premature timejump and all its stupid irreversible writing directions taken, reusing bits of his old script no longer suitable in its entirely to scramble together something, anything.

He basically turned into a headless chicken. and this is the worst case for a story/writer. It is baaaaad in fic writing when you notice the author has lost the plot halfway thru and does not KNOW where to go from there, but it is FATAL in professional writing where you are responsible for a full tv show and under extreme time pressure to deliver. So yeah, this of course exacerbated the structural problems the story had before with giving equal development/screentime to characters tenfold, plus it was now a year later in the story but nothing had actually changed. 365 days of stasis, just with 200% more babies around. So he just continued as before (noticeable with airhead couple) hoping no one would notice. Since a lot of old plot points were now moot, he just created drama out of thin air to fill screentime, nothing makes sense anymore anyway with all plans to be had gone, so whatever might as well. Here and there we saw then bits of old script and good writing moments (eps 40/41) but mainly he ran in circles screaming not knowing fuckall what to do with a story and characters he had no idea how to pick up the pieces of. The plot and pacing was completely lost in a mountain of conflicts thrown into the script to fill in the screentime in a mad dash to scramble something together, while having written himself into the biggest corner in existence. I feel the only lifeline he had in the utter incoherence created now, was parts of his old plans and script. So taking a hammer for the puzzle piece approach, he made them "fit" in here, no matter what. That is very likely how we got the kim junha show we now have the misfortune to witness. Needless to say that he completely miscalculated the pacing of the new random af storyarcs, so the result is now to just make it end in whatever way possible. Which explains the misery wankfest over several eps going nowhere. Less work left to do and also less eps to go, lol.

Btw, if i can be still be arsed this week, i am gonna restructure the outline of the story before/past the timejump in a way that it actually would have made much more sense with various possibilities/roads not taken that would all have led to better places instead down the cliff into a blazing field of rotten trash. However that is a big if, no matter how much it bothers me in the back of my head i already wasted enough brainpower on this mess the past half of year 😂

Hyosim feels like a breath of fresh air and looks at least like written in this day & age instead of being a bizarro backward ass 1950 version of a weekender we've got with TRHC. 💀

Also try Homemade Love Story if you need a fam drama pick me up. i am currently watching it and wow while it is not the best weekend drama out there it is SUCH a step up from TRHC with its coherent story structure, characters getting equal treatment, a cute as heck lead romance that actually WORKS and is given room to grow, and other endearing romance plots too. Hell even the so called villains are way more bearable as they get actual dimension to their personality (except maybe SFL so far who is delusion debbie light, but more bratty and less vicious and the lead couple know how to handle her) Tis my current happy place regarding fam dramas. My regular happy place is Behind your touch and Destined with you atm, both with chaotic lead dynamic and off the wall humor that i appreciate a lot, especially after yet another week of this bs here.

They were truly rendered braindead by writer's decree in order to make his inane plot point and the shithead pity party happen. Appalling to witness how they were downsized to mere writer's puppets acting in the most unnatural and unbelievable way just bc writer said 'puppets daaaance' I feel sorry for the actors.

The thing is, a redemptive arc could have worked if it had been started much sooner... right after eps 30 at its latest, which would have given enough time to turn this character and show TRUE REMORSE instead of none at all and expect viewers to buy this fakeass shit. As said not once he has ever apologized for anything he has done and this would have been the first step to redemption if done earlier as well instead SIX- FOUR EPS before the ending swallowing up all screentime still left. Worse even this all happens AFTER this bastard went down the deep end with stalking harassment, threats etc for a full year.

A believable arc of redeeming him and getting where he is force-pushed now no matter what and how fakeass it all is should have happened before he passed the point of no return regarding heinous acts and behavior WHICH DID NOT HAPPEN. Because we only were forced to it AFTER this shithead went past that line and are yet treated like idiots by the narrative that wants to manipulate us into pitying this bastard as poor lonely orphan whaaaaaaa in SPITE OF EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE AND NEVER ONCE REPENTED FOR.

Kidnapping is a fakeout as he drives aimlessly around with her idk even don't ask. So preview is presumably right after with shithead driving to gong house but idk where haneul is there and HW asks the same, after JH asks to see HN if she is okay after nearly being justifiably murdered by TK. (EAT SHIT JH) YD is crying in a corner instead to be angry with her shithead ex since she isnt allowed any agency at all. Her husband has to do EVERYTHING for her atp. She is just arm decoration.

Moving on to Airhead couple where DW kneels and presumably wants to get back together (???) so YM is like: Do you always disappear when things get tough in the future. Leave me alone. (yes he will run and hide whenever there is remotely a problem, it is a family trait YM)

hahaha, definitely is. Complete hatewatch at this point but i also refuse to drop so close to the finish line. Were it anywhere in the mid-thirty eps or so i would drop it like the hot steaming pile of shit it is, and never look back.

yeah writing and direction is both ASS in this drama. Veteran weekend buddy recognized the directing as pd's style from another weekender, so there is no hope left, but explains all the stilted-ness we get with the leads lol

please do yourself a favor and run as far as you can from it, because it is the worst weekend drama you can pick, of recent years and in general. Do not let the first 10-20 good eps fool you IT IS A TRAP. It all goes to shit at eps 33 at its latest, and never recovered since, including the leads' romance that has been led behind the barn and shot at point blank through the timejump/separation for a year.
