My impression: 1st half (up until ep. 25 or so), overall family and specific character stories were moving - but…
Yeeees. Once Again is family drama perfection honestly. It has such a good balance between storyarcs and character/relationship development while also managing that all the characters feel connected instead of separate entities how it seems too much the case here with the siblings and cousins that never interact (in a positive way) OA has still my favorite side maknae couple (sadon couple) and ever since i haven't found one that is likable in weekenders. Whereas Homemade Love Story has my fave leads (along with LYOL) because they are so naturally affectionate and supportive with and stand up for each other. ML is super perceptive too and FL no doormat. I really enjoyed both family dramas and can only recommend (even if HML has definitely the weaker plot, the characters make up for it imo. Best use of amnesia too hehe)
My impression: 1st half (up until ep. 25 or so), overall family and specific character stories were moving - but…
You flatter me lol. Kathryn actually explained it much better than i did. I was giving additional info here haha. Also the main couple is so worth it unlike in TRHC. Hajun and Uee have such good chemistry and their characters together are the cutest. Not only that i love the way how they mutually support each other and their relationship gradually develops and deepens. It all feels very natural. There is gonna be lots of hugs too and they are very comfortable with each other, again unlike TRHC.
I hope this is a rouse to catch the criminals and he's acting obtuse and already knew and had a plan set up with…
oh yeah she will do everything to save her demon skin, true. But if/when the evidence of her paper companies comes to light she can twist and turn however she wants, even throw off her snake skin, she won't get out of a nice long prison time, communal with what she would see as peasants. Best karmic revenge is actually her having to be in a cell with others, cleaning duty, prison food etc It is humiliation and humility rolled up in one then, and just perfect π
This is why Director Park is the plot mc guffin who will turn the tide for TH and grandma.
I've always figured that Hyo Shim would beg TM to help and Tae Min would once again ride to her rescue (in this…
It may be that i interpret too much in these few moments but to me this looked like an angry cry in the preview. Also from her pov (and missing a lot of info about her bf's fam, mind) if a family member is in trouble you help them, so she doesn't understand how TM hasn't done so with his cousin or how he can't take his side. Plus his wishy washy reaction when confronted aka "let the law decide" ain't gonna fly with her in this situation i think. And there is the fact of his crazy ass wife coming up and blaming and slapping her again for their shit, and the stress of her bf being wrongfully imprisoned of course. So all together a recipe to snap, and i would not be surprised if she does at him *shrug* Preview text says something akin to unload her frustrations at him. So could be benevolent or not, we will see heh. I suspect the latter tbh.
Yeah as said i hope mrs dumb is useful for once in her life and actually tells him all the secrets she keeps since the dawn of day... err the beginning of the show as bargain chip. Especially about grandma Myunghee. So this dude finally can get a grip regarding his shitty parents ffs. Dunno what else it would take to get through the blind idiotic loyalty tho, but it is either course-correcting now or go down along with them. In this regard THee is much smarter than her brother in giving them the finger.
Also it is a bit ridiculous that it took nearly to eps 40 till the siblings meet outside a fake funeral tho, but oh well here we are lmao,
I love the duality of grandma ngl. Knitting, doting (toward the leads) halmeoni at home, bad boss b when dealing…
TM is there to apologize for his crazy ass wife but HS is having none of it. She's understandably upset about everything going on and seems angry with him/in general. My theory is now that meeting his sis is what makes him 'wake up' and course correct when he learns from her that grandma is still alive. If that doesn't happen we most likely gonna see him back in prison and there being rueful. Bc there not many options left for the dude by now, not after he took several wrong turns of his own choosing (and 'gentle' guiding by his demon mother)
Going to try i think grama asked what he was doing with the foundation but we saw no more after that so interesting…
Yeah that is why i was saying that there are pieces or rather people still missing till they can 'strike back' ( feels as tho Hyosung will be playing a surprisingly important role in it here too and be the connecting dot. He's already suspecting it being an elaborate trap for TH after all) So my left field theory is now that TH went willingly into the trap to buy time/prove a point but there are things happening in the background we don't know of yet. Idk but some things were left out and also don't add up. We will see, but the director park guy seems to be most vital here as 'plot mcguffin' π
Grandma is playing chess while other are playing UNO ...it seems a Reverse set up is about to happen ."I am expecting…
I love the duality of grandma ngl. Knitting, doting (toward the leads) halmeoni at home, bad boss b when dealing with conglomerate peers. Like she made the tvlife owner her little bitch in 5 minutes tops π It's definitely a trait TH inherented from her, a puppy around HS, cold and unforgiving toward those who mean his loved ones/him harm and cross the moral line
Omg I know they wanted a mystery to be kept that her visitor is her bro but easily top 3 sentences to not say to your boyfriend/romantic partner π
Also TM is not only a clueless pawn, he is also the biggest hypocrite. Promised to bring down the full force of the law on TH if he finds something amiss 'no matter if they are family or not' while covering up and bribing ppl left and right in order to shield his criminal parents from the law. Yikes. Thus his holier than thou sentence/attitude pissed me off.
My impression: 1st half (up until ep. 25 or so), overall family and specific character stories were moving - but…
Unlike TRHC which was always narratively and structurally a mess, LYOL has a good foundation in its plot and characters. The prob was that it forgot to move things along beyond super duper snail's pace for 10-15 eps. But ever since eps 25 things are moving at a fast pace, characters and relationships develop (with a few exceptions that do not matter much) steadily and it has been a blast to watch tbh. It's one of the few shows that got better in the second half instead of the other way around. And has been going strong since. It seems even as tho we can finish up the whole chaebol story till eps 40 to focus more on other character focused things again as we are now in the ever building climax of the story where it seems the baddies have won.
More inconsistencies with timelines in this show. A couple of weeks ago we found out that HS is 35 y.o. In multiple…
Timeline inconsistencies are nothing new in this show but the term TH used was 'orphaned IN his thirties, not when he WAS thirty tho. Small but important difference π
I've always figured that Hyo Shim would beg TM to help and Tae Min would once again ride to her rescue (in this…
The preview may be misleading but she ain't in the mood to beg. Like at all. She seems very pissed there to me (like these are angry tears) and thus I rather think she is gonna give the dude two earfuls of things he needs to hear. Then again he has a track record of not listening to her, so who knows if it does anything π )
I came here to see if others were as grossed out by the reasons HS said she liked TH. There are SO many better…
The subs matches up to what i understood of the korean dialogue, i fear, but maybe viki has a better way to phrase it than kocowa at least. But yeah the way it is presented it feels like daddy issues central, yikes. I get what the writer was going for with her finally feeling taken care of, when no one ever did before bc she was the caretaker of everyone instead. But who in their right mind says "I like him because he is like daddy to me" in regards of their romantic partner π
Why the weird & kinda creepy father angle at all? It's not as though she cannot talk about missing out on a father separately but pls not in context with her boyfriend π Also why not just let HS say "I like Taeho because he makes me feel valued, protected/safe, heard/acknowledged. He respects me and takes care of me, which I never had since I always was the caretaker of everyone" There, easy. And so much better.
I feel like, there is a lot going on in the bg that we are not shown yet, since grandma addressed the slush fund foundation to TH but their conversation was never shown. Thus it would be odd if TH after that would just continue as usual with it. So it feels like idk a set up in the set up? Since TH also picked up golfing just to meet the prosecutor, it feels like there are counter plans in motion and he is more prepared for everything than we have been privy to yet. We will see what it is after the obligatory "all is lost" story arc where it seems that way, but things ain't adding up here.
Next week (according to the hangul preview text) mrs dumb meets her brother TM thanks to mr. dumber being a leech as usual. Let's see if she can be useful for once in her life and tell him about grandma. You got one damn job lady. Don't screw it up. I doubt she will, but hey, wonders never cease lol. Same for TM maybe to take a hint after all, like ANY hint atp i beg yoooou π
Finally the two siblings talked about TH and HS making big bro understand it is her decision to date him/why she likes him. I know what the writer was going for here, aka HS feeling safe with and protected/taken care of by TH and for the first time in her life, since she always has been the caretaker. But to compare her romantic partner to her dad as the reason why she likes him so much is a little π¬ tbh. Uncomfy and a part where writer's intent and execution did not stick the landing.Aka the intent was clear but the execution was clumsy and odd.
Also by now i am pretty certain we won't see a breakup of the leads. Because their arc is gonna be more about HS' hesitance to marry him, due to his status/bg and the leeches around her who already asking her for favors, making her uncomfortable af. And while some of their miscommunication/dealing with it on my own is misguided protection of each other (the chaebol thing much lesser than the gym issue) I liked how they talked things out and TH for owning up to being too flippant here with his "I'll buy the gym" remark when they find out they are dating.(In fact this man was feeling so bad about it he ran over after their phone talk to apologize haha) Their communication is so good and open otherwise but they have to get out of the "I don't want to bother/worry you" mindset and be more open about the less savory things happening, if they want their relationship to work longterm.
Of course everything was easier when no one knew of them dating but Taeho is who he is regarding his family bg and HS has to learn to deal with it if she is to date/marry him, and how to put up firm boundaries regarding that toward others, especially her shitty fam. It feels she is also inadvertently getting more and more involved in the chaebol wars as will her brother, tbh. (And he is probably the wild card no one is expecting, at that, since he was in contact with the mysterious director park)
As the story is set up, i think everything regarding the conglomerate war and co can be solved inthe next 4-5 eps and then maybe have it focus back on HS'' fam (deadbeat dad's return?) as well as clean up on aisle 3 what concerns the open character and relationship arcs. And of course a prison trip for most of the Kang fam + underling π Whether or not TM is among them again due to blind idiotic loyalty will be remaining to be seen tho.
not yet on dramahood tho, but i guess in a good hour it will be too :)
it is not available for me without VPN of course, but i think it is north and south america who is the target demographic so to speak. And here in the european countries from what i have seen, Viki has combined its own catalogue with the shows from kocowa, that is why i am able to watch pass plus shows like LYOL with my standard pass. What is available depends on regional licensing of course
(and vpn only works with us/south american servers, oddly enough which is why i always use an US server now to watch things on Viki as there are only a few plus shows that i watch w/o vpn on, like Knight Flower or this one here. But even there i just have to pause my vpn for a minute to start an eps and then turn it back on, so no biggie tbh)
But yeah that is the gist of it. I am happy i have access now to a few older family dramas like My Father Is Strange and It's Beautiful Now etc that are no longer available for streaming in my region. The complicated magic of vpn, lol. It sometimes misfire but overall it is very good to have :D
not yet on dramahood tho, but i guess in a good hour it will be too :)
Oh I see. Tbh, that is not worth it, as i can nearly watch all the kocowa shows in my standard sub here in germany (the plus pass shows). For the rest there is still the skull flag option after allπ (aka for the plus pass shows that are only available in the US region etc.) But thank you for the info π₯°
He called the finance guy to confirm - is he supposed to mis-trust everyone EXCEPT Tae Ho?? π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
He has generally a shitty track record with that, not just today tbh, as with communication and diplomacy in general as well. A little self-awareness and stopping to ask "why" goes a looooong way. It is ironic that he is poised as a leader, because with how he questions nothing he is told, like ever, he is the perfect follower and pawn, so easy to manipulate.
But i guess the guilelessness is needed for the plot or else we would solve problems too quickly lol. Still very annoying how he is never thinking for himself tho.
