the amount of brainrot the couples are giving me is unreal!! ma tan getting heart palpitations bc of kang mi's…
Riiiiight? So well written and developed. Reminds me back on Waikiki where I expected to see a wholesome, slow burn romance of a single mother with one of the ML's last and yet, and yet it delivered, if with added goofiness. Same with GE now, bless.

the sudden german scene took me OUT lmao!!! so funny getting to understand what they're saying, although that…
Oh hey, fellow German here. Gut zu wissen 😁 But yeah was pretty bizarre to suddenly hear my native tongue in a kdrama, however badly pronounced but I suppose German is as difficult for a Korean as the other way around since they are such different languages (which I feel hard atm learning Korean lol.) So considering that he really did a good job with this. And it was definitely a Swiss accent of the white dude indeed. The way he ditched/ghosted him tho lmao, I love this drama πŸ˜‚

There is only 2 episodes and people are making reviews already... Like?😬
They are vying to be top review at the end with the most likes which you often get when you are the only review. Don't ask me I don't get it either tho lol

Title The Law Cafe
Lol, i don't get mdl's massive hate boner for this drama. But then again, i rarely agree with the ratings or comments here, lmao. I dunno what people expected but i for my part have rarely seen, if ever, such a mature, openly communicative with consent and comfortableness for both partners at the forefront relationship portrayed in a kdrama. Conflicts, fears and issues between the leads never festered but were discussed and solved as quickly as possible (starting noble idiocy of ML aside.) They were affectionate, playful and compassionate with each other, as well as also challenging each other to become their better selves. They had an adult relationship that did not stop at holding hands and blushing which is still rare in kdramaland and openly discussed their needs/wishes regarding intimacy while always heeding the others boundaries.

I said it before but the way the drama handled consent and how much importance it put on it... it is sadly the first time i ever see this to this in a kdrama to this extent. (Dali And The Cocky Prince comes to mind here too, but it wasn't as integral as it is in TLC) Which honestly, makes me sad as it should not be the exception but the rule and the way the drama subverted typical romcom tropes and viewers exΓΌectations regarding that was chefkiss. It was clear from the start that this is the story of the two leads and their journey of overcoming the demons of their past in order to find together. A complex law drama nor plot, this is not it and that is fine as long you go into it with the correct expectations. (which honestly is a you problem far more than of the drama that is obviously home in slice of life romance genre more than anything else.)

And yet the drama managed to address a wide range of social issues that are still prevalent in today's society, Korea or elsewhere. (especially the SA case was handled with the gravitas and framing it needed to be) And i liked how these cases were mirrored with what the leads currently personally struggled to let them grow alongside in handling it. The main plot with the crazy uncle was the weakest link in it all and drawn out too much but overall that took little away from the refreshingly modern view and take on the writing of the leads/their relationship for me. The side characters were lovely too and i enjoyed my time with them (minus uncle, however well acted haha) I can only hope that other writers of romcom kdramas take note of this one here in regard of how it handled consent, because implicit clear consent is sexy and we direly need more of it in this medium/genre.

coz romance sells like dope in drama audience whose demography largely consists of older women or respective actor/actress…

i mean, we agree, lol. You basically just repeated what i said about it, just in a more elaborate way *high five*

Like many k-dramas with 2nd male leads, the FF button may be your friend. 😊
lol so true, since i never get second lead syndrome i use it liberally in any drama lol
On Once upon a Small Town Oct 24, 2022
Finally catching up since it got released on my countries' netflix, Gotta say waiting for that to happen instead to watch it as it aired was worth it as on Netflix it also has korean subs which helps me with following along the spoken dialogue/hangul reading practice via dual subs (add on) <3

The show itself is nothing special but it is a nice cozy little story which is very much welcome in the current landscape of too many dark/grim/heavy dramas atm.

SML is so much better, I cant understand how FM and ML were in a contract for 5 YEARS and absolutely nothing happened,…
Her falling for the quiet, sensitive good looking, well-build and mannered man who respects her boundaries, gives her room, shows his care through actions instead of words, and cooks her a fancy meal each time she visits him? Daaamn, such a shock she is choosing substance and steadfastness over fancy flair and lot of loud nothingness/pretense. Wow just how could that happen? Totally don't understand, nope. (πŸ˜‚)

Title Love in Contract Spoiler
So what will happen now? She has to marry Kang Hae jin and the leads' relationship will fall apart? Madam yoooo…
There is an interesting sentence within LIC episode summary for the next episode on TVN's homepage regarding that: "상은은 상황 μˆ˜μŠ΅μ„ μœ„ν•΄ 강진그룹 일가λ₯Ό λ§Œλ‚˜ 해진과 결혼 생각이 μ—†μŒμ„ λ°νžŒλ‹€." which kinda translates to Sang Eun going to the gangjin group and declaring she has no intention to marry KHJ. So i expect the mess to unfurl in the next two episodes, at least a bit, hehe. But we all know it gets worse before it gets better. The last two seconds or so of the preview do give me a bit of confidence for our leads' trajectory/commitment, tho (πŸ’‹)

Any story can have romance if the writer is skilled enough to implement it in an organic way into the plot. This does not happen always and then it shows in the story yeah, but i also feel it is trendy atm to decry romance to be a different, "enlightened" viewer of kdrama. Unlike the rest of them, yknow?

Tho tis true that some viewers are too focused on romance only but for a drama to have a great viewership you need more than just romance... If there is one thing i learned by now it is the show needs to be on netfix to be(come) popular, because the second question of viewers after the romance is IS IT ON NETFLIX? I feel dramas on that platform have a popular bonus from the get go. Which, surprise, this drama does not have so it feels a little overlooked in the sea of airing shows atm. But we will see how it goes with its further episodes ;)

Haha i can relate. Ngl, i struggle to watch dramas with sad/tragic endings and postpone it (red sleeve i am looking at ya) since irl is already harsh enough. I have started to branch out a little into dramas without romance by now (as long characters and plot are good enough i don't mind... much) but mainly i still watch romance/romcom or, ideally a genre mix with romance as one of its story elements (such as mr. queen, from now on showtime etc) which are my fave as romance alone as plot grows quite stale/stretches thin over 16 hours and thus tends to bore me in the end. Hence this drama here looks very promising in this regard. Solid plot and already a good chemistry/banter between the leads. Yay,

Plus, love is an integral part of life and since we are accompanying the characters on their journey through the story and also their lives it belongs to it as part of it.

I think he I probably the 1st ghost FL has seen after touching the corpse, but what is the connection with child…
he is indeed the child ghost from the beginning, but i am not sure what his connection is with ML. With the way their backstory is peeled back layer by layer, I am sure we are going to find out soon tho ;)

Is this good? Just asking since I just got burned by 20th Century Girl.
Gives me MPUB vibes with FL needing to help a certain number of people to move on in order to be freed from this involuntary task, tho is grounded more in reality than it thus far. Aka the supernatural bit is just a small part of it. I like the leads and how the drama takes time to reveal more of their story bit by bit, and how they run into and have near misses with each other like only ML/FL in a kdrama can have haha. Tis well acted and chemistry is there between them, and i like the small stories told of the (dead) people she helps as well. There are sad moments mixing with comedy in the next.... quite very solid thus far.
On May I Help You Oct 24, 2022
Oh, they have already such good chemistry. I can't wait for ML to hold her hands and don't mind it at all, especially after what the ass of an ex said to her. I like that the leads are just ordinary people trying to get by instead of one being a CEO, or someone other special or rich. Big MPUB vibes, especially with the countdown of how many people she still has to help to move on and the mix of somber tones with comedy. Really enjoying it thus far.

I cannot get over the fact that Hae Won framed the big reveal of her aunt as though she was the worst when in…
Omg thank you for this, i didn't know about that. This is so much better than the ambiguous lukewarm ending we have gotten in the drama. Why did they not keep the novel ending? Very frustrating and senseless, sigh. Gonna shave off another 0.5 points from my final rating for this poor directing/writing decision, ugh.

I highly recommend Chicago Typewriter if you wanna see more of GKP ;D
He is, but also a very important character, if not the most important character in the plot. And while he has a crush on FL for a bit, their friendship (with ML as well) goes beyond that and is given most poignancy in the plot. So it is no love triangle SML thing, he is integral to the plot, past and present, and to the leads. Soooo don't dismiss it just because GKP is not the ML, as this drama is worth it, imo.

Dropping for now at episode 3. Just can't seem to get into it. But will give it another try in a few weeks/months.
For me, when i watched it as it aired, it had a slow start too and episode 6 with the backstory of the leads and their conflict being discussed and solved by them in a mature way at the end of it (in the same episode even, instead to draw it out) was what shifted the drama from a casual to must watch, tbh. So give it a little more patience/time.

But then again, i get needing to be in a certain mood to enjoy a drama. I am the same here haha
