I would argue that it is more a slice of life drama about YW's life and struggles on the spectrum with law as backdrop... rather than a full fledged law/court drama. Since the cases also only serve to further Youngwoo's development/as a contrast to it. That is also why the lack of development of the *other* characters aside of her becomes more glaring the longer the drama goes on.
Considering its quite a long drama, has it been good all the time? No draggy parts or filler? Will start it soon…
I liked it in the beginning since the setting felt fresh, but the longer the show goes on the more i find it way too overhyped and veeeeery draggy. The plot is really simple (boy with birthsecret seeks out power in/ unlikely places/methods to become stronger... groundbreaking, lol) but is executed in a needlessly convoluted way in order to make it seem complex. The "mysteries" are dragged out bc they gotta fill 20 eps and more with what little plot there is. There are no female mages, female characters are mostly mere scenery decoration props, servants or there to make FL jealous. Even FL the supposed mightest assassin ever nerfed in power at the drama's start due to soulshifting has done jackshit to regain her powers in 16 eps and basically exists to make ML more powerful. Politics within put me to sleep with its pseudo intellectualism and lingering long shots of old men exposition-ing the story/bg. Characters range from okay (main leads, crown prince) to useless over to annoying and there are faaaaaar too many of them without much purpose and development. Way too much focus on love triangle/everyone falls for the main leads teenage shit because again they have to fill 20 eps. Thus feels often like some F4 BoF in a fantasy setting than anything resembling coherent narrative. Romance was cute in the beginning/middle, but with everything else is really dragged out to fill 20 eps and more, not much development for too long imo. It failed to keep me invested in them due to that.
The villains are laughable caricatures of villains who would give Wil E. Coyote from roadrunner a run for his money regarding evil cackling in dark rooms and convoluted plans that amounts to nothing. As said worldbuilding aka look/cinematography, costumes and fighting choreography is really pretty and well done, but in the end even a turd with glitter is still a turd lol. Won't drop it as i have only 4 episodes left now i will complete whenever (it is on hold atm as i don't caaaaare), but i do watch it on 2x speed since eps 8/9, i think? I expect an open ending, bc hey, there will be a second part.... but without me then, lol.
YMMV, but i absolutely don't get the hype about what i think is at best an okay drama to waste some time on while waiting for the other (better) ones to air. Definitely didn't need 20 episodes, even less 30, as it really lacks writing focus due to it.
The weirdest thing is that right from the start I was getting vibes that they want to make this pairing happen,…
Yup. Or at the very least... and the bar is so low here... make him speak up because he used his two braincells to reconsider his shitty demeanor toward Youngwoo thus far. But instead it was the woman (SY) and ~~power of love~~ who made him do that instead.😒🤮
Hmm, the more i read about "season 2 confirmed" the more i think that there was something lost in translation. Feels more like hopes and wishes of the CEO/producers rn than anything confirmed with certainty and the international outlets just ran with it. That being said, it is also not unlikely to happen given its success and all, but let's wait and see, eh? (good reminder to myself too, to halt the doomposting until eps 16 has aired, lol)
Military service is about 18-20 months in SK, so makes sense they will wait for him. Also script etc has to be written first too, so two years is a sensible amount of time. Not that i wanted a second season, but oh well, here we are now.
They can finish all in S2 (2024). But how things in S1 gonna end will be known tomorrow (not in next week- hopefully).…
A few loose plot strings to continue and be explored later is legitimate, but slapping a "to be continued" under it after 16 hours without resolving anything is high key viewer clownery and bad writing.
omygod hard same HAHAHA like gurlll so we just be out in the open liking the tactician now just because you knew…
Yuuuup,. They are going on full "Woman changes shitty man through the power of love" route and i cannot roll my eyes any further without them getting stuck in the back of my skull.
ngl, i watched the SY/MW scene where she asks him "to be a fool for his colleague instead of political and scheming bc she likes men like that" and i did a full body cringe
Out of curiosity, is anyone rewatching the drama at the moment? I'm just torn as to whether I should rewatch it…
I'm usually not one to rewatch dramas, since i have too many yet to catch up on. The only ones i do that with is with the ones i reeeeeeally loved and are high up on my all time fave list (https://kisskh.at/list/47aqzZDL). Currently I'm rewatching From Now On Showtime and Mr. Queen in an episode here and there style, and planning to rewatch Dali And The Cocky Prince, Crazy Love and Thirty But Seventeen, bc all these are dramas that make me happy.
I doubt i will ever rewatch EAW outside of singular scenes and MV's tho.
a whole season 2 is fine but the fact that its in 2024 most ppl would of lost interest or have forgotten about…
I mean it is not wrong, but Yumi's Cell, We Are All Dead, Uncanny Counter and Hospital Playlist, to name a few, released/will release their second season only later on too and ppl watched it or plan to with the yet to be released new seasons of dramas. Two years seems standard here between seasons tbh, because it also needs to be written, organized and what not before it gets into production. All of it takes time after all.
