Mr. Queen has set the standards high and spoiled me in regards of sageuk aesthetics but holy shit this drama's cinematography is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. Especially the scenes outside of the palace. That color grading and camera framing feels like movie quality. Plus the acting is already top notch and the story interesting. I feel i will have a good (if tearful) time with this drama.

heh, no prob. I plan to stick around with that drama after all, unless it reeeeally takes a nosedive into BB (bad and boring) xD

Not clear yet, there is one other guy who has interest in the FL, but it had been just revealed that it is the case in the latest episode. So it is hard to say what the dynamic will be right now. Other than ML steaming in jealousy like the petty diva (meant affectionally tbh) he is, ofc 😂

One glance at my watchlist and you knooooow i am the currently airing type, first and foremost 😂 Since i came late into kdrama watching (half a year ago) i find it less overwhelming to keep up with currently airing kdramas I find interesting and watch 1-2 episodes per show/week than to let it all simmer until they finished airing with usually 16 episodes each to catch up on. The latter would leave me no time to catch up on older dramas then and bloat my giant ptw list even further, tbh. So yeah, it works for me and i don't mind the waiting in between. It is rather something to look forward to hehe.

Outside of it just started airing, I feel historical dramas have a much more difficult time on MDL in general to find recognition. Because many ppl dismiss a drama from the get go if it is a sageuk, which is a shame tbh. There are many many good ones out there.

Gotta love me a drama which does the combining of several genres well and the balance of supernatural, fantasy, comedy and romance is so good! I love how heavily they lean into the romance this early too, ngl. This drama needs moar love tbh, ppl are missing out on a very good one.

I love historical drama, since The King's Affection threw me in that kdrama rabbit hole and Mr. Queen became my all time fave soon after that. Joseon is a hellhole i never would have wanted to live in for too many reasons to count, but it makes for interesting setting/stories for a drama tbh.

However normally avoid the tragic sageuks (still have red sleeve left to watch due to that) but for some reason i am ready and willing to get my heart ripped out and stomped upon by this drama 😂

Yes exactly. Empathy goes a long way instead of brute-forcing their way to save the clients like they did in the beginning. The character development of them is subtle but still very satisfying to see <3

I also feel that Joon Woong has had a good influence on them. Like both reapers are acting a lot more empathic toward the clients now than they did in the beginning and i peg that to his human-y influence tbh :D

If i remember it correctly gojin is deep in feels after their first kiss in episode 8, but tries to push her away due to his abandonment trauma and a bit of denial. There will be a catalyst in episode 11 (i think?) which changes that. Shin Ah is more subtle but very upset when he called the kiss a mistake, for example and sad when she is laid off. Aka saying "it feels like she is being dumped." There are subtle signs of romance/catching feels throughout long before their official dating comes around in episode 12, but it is not as overt as in other romcoms which i like. It suits their characters much better this way.

Seeing it IS enemies to lovers it makes complete sense that they are not head over heels for each other, but it is a gradual shift of perspective and attraction toward each other instead. So slow burn is a given with enemies to lovers trope, at least if it is done properly. And while it is a romcom, it is not your typical one as it is mixing many genres together and plays/parodies a lot of romcom tropes.

Yeah saaaame. i bought the viki pass for 5€ a month today and intent to keep it for a couple of months to catch up on some dramas, as the subs are often much better there in quality than on netflix or the illegal sites. Also gonna rewatch Mr. Queen once more with the improved subs haha.

Something About 1 Percent seems similar with contractual marriage of a rich guy to a school teacher when they hate each other. I just started watching this and it is giving me the same vibe dynamic-wise.

If you are about the slow, well done enemies to lovers progression like in CL, I can highly rec Mr. Queen. Currenly airing dramas like Sh**ting star is enemies to lovers too and From Now Showtime has a bickering couple as well, heh.

No problem :) Another thing i should mention maybe is while the theme is heavy (rescuing ppl from suicide and seeing "their reasons" to take this step) it is not a grim-dark, depressing drama. There is humor and heart (Choi Joon Woon is such a human, empathic character) throughout it all. The humor is never to ridiculate the topic at hand but used outside serious situations for levity :)

I would say it is a mixture of move to heaven and mystic pop up bar + social commentary. Be concious about the triggery theme tho (suicide) before deciding to watch. But yeah overall it feels episodic with another client each episode but there are red threads thrown throughout the story for the bg of the main characters + their development.

I really enjoy it so far, the stories and characters are interesting, The bar's owner's bg is peeled back more and more with every episode. If you watch/like Tomorrow it has the same vibe, or rather Tomorrow has the same vibe as mystic pop up bar since it came first hehe.

Nah. It is either stupidity of MDL ppl or a technical error. Probably both 😒
