I have read some very thoughtful and detailed comments on the various characters' motivations and reasons for their behaviour. I agree with a lot of the reasonings. However, there is one fundamental issue I have with this show after 24 episodes. I watched this show because I wantef to see some interesting take on the Chinese airline industry and the struggle of being a female pilot. Yes, we got a bit of that earlier on and I was cheering the FL like crazy. She get hit with setback after setback but she got back up and soldiers on. Huzzah! But the show is now reduced to a soapy, tropey romance/melodrama with love square, crushes, misunderstandings and now noble idiocy.
I didn't sign on for that. I was shipping The FL and GNT like mad from the start but now I'm exhausted. I know the show will turn around and a HEA ending is almost guaranteed but why this detour? Just to pad out the length or for the angst we don't need?

I think it is better than even odds that NZ did it on purpose to help GNT but it is still a very unsatisfying love square when we don't really need one.

I agree with you interpretation but it is just another form of the noble idiot trope. The ML just want to take on all the pain so that someone else can be happy but at the same time, he is hurting the FL and quite likely the 2ML because the FL is not going to accept just being treated like a gift to be passed on to the next best suitor. The more I watch this, the more tropey the plots get and the sadder I get.

I agree with you on the point of guilt and overcoming trauma but I would beg to differ on the point of the first girl friend being a talented pilot. In fact, she learn to fly because of the ML but she crashed on her first solo flight. The accident investigation also concluded that it was a pilot error that caused the crash. She tried to show off to the ML and exceeded her ability. To be honest, that plotline was poorly done because now her reputation is tarnished. She did stuff that a good pilot should not have done.

I think it comes down to bad writing. There are so many mixed messages and meaningful glances but all comes to nought. I was shipping them like mad in the beginning but I'm exhausted with the push backs and mixed messages. :(

You have a good point there but to be fair, not every romance drama have heaps of chemistry. Sometimes it is just the leads don't click. They might have the visuals but their personalities are just not compatible. In this case, it is further complicated by the ML being young and an idol so he don't have a very warm persona. The bubbly FL just seems to be a yin to his yang. ;)

Thanks for the update. :) I have no doubt that the HEA ending is mandated. Speaking of the mom, that's another character that was poorly written (when I dropped it). She was abandoned by the Chancellor and made a big deal about being independent but once she met up with him again, she just moved right back in and all is forgiven. Umm, ok, why not . . . :P

Yes, so much potential. I am honestly tired and frustrated with this show. I was hoping for some growth and depth to the plot and characters but you should have heard my groan when they throw in the ancient version of Doordash. At that point, I knew they are just going to use any means to get a cheap laugh and enough was enough.
I'm sure I would watch it to the end at a later date. I don't hate the show but it was a definite case of caveat emptor.
BTW, I can also sense that the Grand Chancellor is not really a bad guy and is probably just tempering the King so that he can be good ruler. Ditto the FL, she is a force of good but please let her do something other than square dancing or ordering Ubereats. LoL Cheers!
