FIrst 5 episodes review! Everything said here happens in episode 1 as to not spoil anyone: Know this review is purely of the show itself. I have not read the book therefore will not be making comparisons.
Plot Synopsis + Pacing Thoughts: Jiang Shuo, an amnesiac with a small red incense bag, is found in a ditch near a graveyard. A year later, he is suspected of murder after the residents of the houses he sold all died. Through this event, he meets doctor Qi Yin Heng and police woman Yuan Mu Qing. The trio, along with some other characters, go on a strange haunted adventure to solve a massive puzzle relating to an organisation called "The Six FIngers" and possibly Jiang Shuo's past. Pacing has been pretty good so far. The only complain I have is that I personally would have loved to see more of the beginning. Our MC gets picked up by group of very ineteresting people (the group is like PT Barnum's circus), where everyone is rather unique, and I would have loved to see more interactions since basically 2 minutes after he's found, we get a 1 year time jump.
General Thoughts: Cinematography is absolutely entrancing sometimes, as most republican dramas are. Music is okay. Nothing amazing, but the typical ordinary. Costumes are nice. The usual. I will say though, the masks are pretty funky and I'm a big fan, even though you only get to see them for couple seconds in the intro. The sets are absolutely stunning. Especially the main set belonging to the group of misfits that found Jiang Shuo. That place looks all funky and steampunk, yet we can tell it's not the richest part of town. Cast is amazing. Loving it so far. Not going to lie I have a Bias for Neo since I've followed his journey as a psychological/suspense genre actor from the start, and damn has he improved.
Characters: Jiang Shuo - Trickster and rather conniving eccentric. Amnesiac that was found dead in a ditch. Has hyposis abilities. Always carries around red thread with coins or small bells attached to said thread as his signature "weapon" (he induces hypnosis with it). Somehow linked with "The Six Fingers".
Qin Yi Heng - Intelligent and observant. Currently is a phychologist, though he has had past jobs. Also an eccentric. Got sent a message by "the Six Fingers" to meet Jiang Shuo if he doesn't want his father to die (something along those lines).
Yuan Mu Qing: Confident and determined, but a bit childish. Annoying when you first meet her, but IMO she's a lot more bearable than other female leads.
ENEMY: "The Six Fingers" is a mysterious group that are seemingly pulling the strings to the events that happen in the story.
Overall: If psychological mystery adventures are your type of genre, absolutely worth the watch. Intro and outro spoils a bit, so If you're not a fan of spoilers I recommend skipping <3
Not a usual romcom watcher, but I really think I need one right now. Just a question before I try it, any love triangles or very frustrating misunderstandings in Professional Single?
Thanks for the review. What do you mean by unsatisfactory ending? Is it happy or sad? Many thanks in advance.
I mean... depends on your perspective of happy or sad? Like if you think male lead and female lead finally being canon happy, then yea its happy. But then again, if you think male lead losing himself and being replaced by another personality is sad, then yea it's sad.
Her acting wasn't that bad but compared to other debut actors in Legend of Awakening it was really mediocre, especially…
Yea It's understandable. I don't hate her as much as other people, but one of those firm believers that if you're filming any sort of fan favourite novel adaptations that you should stay from idol actors as much as possible. It's not because they're bad, so many of them are hella talented, but when they don't have the experience and there are many other candidates who've trained years for this specific career of acting, casting should consider all options before Idols.
If only these republican series could do fictional names for the two different factions then they'd actually be watchable for people who dont want to be subjected to propaganda and just want to enjoy an honestly good series. Then again, I don't know, it might take out historical values of things. I can't comment much since even though I'm Chinese, I was born in Canada so I don't know the situations and stuff clearly enough.
Like otherwise though, this series is genuinely really good and well filmed, acted and directed.
Why would they compare them? Just b/c it's Wuxia and bl? Laughable. People are so narrow.
Yea I'm confused too, but just check the comment section of any Wuxia or Xianxia series on youtube and you're 100% gonna find a comment that says "Who came here because they missed Untamed? This isn't even as good".
1. Big fan of cinemtography. Everything is super smooth 2. Acting so far has been fine. Nothing cringe acting wise yet. 3. CGI is.... eh. First 10 minutes of the first episode gives you this chain extension CGI that looks like typical bad cdrama cgi, but what makes it slightly unbearable is how unnecessarily long the scene lasted. Not too much CGI yet, so it's watchable. 4. Plot has been okay. Has not hooked me in yet, but ill see if that changes after 1-3 episodes (and then again, barely any of the characters have been introduced fully yet).
I'll probably watch this in my free time to simply appreciate the cinematic scenes if the series has nothing else going for it later on.
I honestly have no problem with older actors playing younger characters, since they're usually more experienced and as the article said, bring depth to these loved characters.
But I have a massive grudge against "idol actors" (those who aren't originally actors but are able to get roles just because they're already popular or good looking) getting big roles for beloved and iconic characters, especially in cdrama land, when everyone knows they don't have the proper training/talent/experience to make these characters believable.

Correction: Six Fingers is a person. My bad!
I really need something light, easy and fluffy after this series hit my emotions like a train at full speed.
Now I just feel an empty void because they both deserved so much better.
Like otherwise though, this series is genuinely really good and well filmed, acted and directed.
Plot is eh.
Characters are eh.
Humour and other aspects are eh.
Cinematography is good. thats about it.

K.O One series is a very... weird yet entertaining series. Every season of it feels like a fever dream.
