It's more than what you wrote. I watched the drama two years ago and just finished re-watching it.
The main theme in the first season was all about who was responsible for his mother's eventual death. His willingness to change his mind to become the heir to his father's lordship was he realized in order to find out his mother's perpetrators he needed the power. He did avenge the murder of his mother but apparently there were more than one who harmed his mother. He asked Chief Eunuch of Liang - Han Diao Si 韩貂寺 who else were a part of the plot against his mother but Han Diao Si took his last breath before he gave an answer to the question.

That's her own voice and that's the way she talks. I skip the FL scenes not because the character of the FL is childish or stupid, it's because I don't like Sun Qian who is neither good nor bad but she's always like that in all her dramas. Lukewarm alike!

It started out with a high rating then suddenly with a big drop. I think it'll eventually pull back up because it's a very good show!

Is this drama Xianxia or Wuxia?

This is an excellent slice-of-life drama and acting is super. The reason this one is rated low because it's light on romance and is not carried by idol/traffic actors, instead by seasoned/veteran actors.

Romance comes later but he's great in this drama, very good acting from him and handsome!

"Su Muyu is so stiff"
Gong Jun is the weakest link in the drama and unfortunately he's the main, main lead having the most screen time. His acting is weak and stiff, totally lacking of range and depth. His line delivery is flat without a trace of nuances. Sometimes I covered my eyes to avoid watching his acting so just listening to the dialogue between him and other characters except I understood Mandarin and couldn't mute the sound. If not because I'm so intrigued by the story, I would have dropped it a while ago.

In EP12, the fight scene between Fu Yi Shao and her so called army brother Xiao Wei Ran is incredible and so intense. Well done!

It's filmed primarily in Guangdong with certain scenes shot in Macau and H.K. The city where the story is set is fictional but very similar to Macau. In Macau, both Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken but Cantonese is dominant one.

Besides BJT, I really enjoy Song Yang's acting, who is fabulous playing a very complex character. I wonder if his Cantonese is dubbed or not; he switches his Mandarin to Cantonese as if both are his native languages. Bravo to this drama!
