in america parents have their ways of controlling even adult children,esp. the rich. for this drama i can easily see the mother threatening him with his inheritence or telling him she'll go after his firends if he doesnt listen, just like in the asian versions.

Hana Yori Dango translates to boys over flowers. it's an american remake so the title was translated into english.

Rui's problem in HYD was styling. omg looking at him in that dramam you would never know he is as attractive as he is.

when Korea redid Ghost they didnt go out and find white people, neither did the chinese producers of what women want, no they used a cast that reflected their country. this cast is pretty reflective of america.

out of the 11 cast memebers shown only 5 are white. one guy is a maybe. the cast is pretty multiracial which makes sense b/c it's an AMERICAN remake. this is no different than asian remakes of american shows and use an all asian cast.

it will have 16 55 minute episodes.

the taiwanese version happened in a college.

in previous comments they said that it would air on dramafever, their own website, roku and things like that. they are trying to secure hulu and viki.

Hana Yori Dango translates Boys Before Flowers. since they are presenting it to an american audience and not just for current fans of the franchise it makes sense that they translate the japanese into english so their target audience can understand it. if you read through the comments here and read thier answers, they know exactly where it comes from, they said several times they will follow the manga pretty closely.

a good story can cross cultural barriers. there are already no less than EIGHT different versions of this story, 3 of them being from different countries than the source material. each version is different b/c the story was changed to fit the sensibilities of the country in which it was airing or the period of time in which it was airing.

i dont think it nessecarily would make it a kiddie version. part of the reason it is unacceptable in the asian versions is that there are no consequences for their actions. Jan Di never reports Gu jun pyo to the authorities, Makino never gets a restraining order against her stalker. to my recollection there is never even an appology. in Meteor Garden Dao Ming goes so far as to try to say he slapped her BECAUSE he loved her. all of these could be valid plot points in america if there was some sort of acknowledgement that the behavior was unacceptable.

this is one of the reasons i'm looking forward to an american version.there is alot that was acceptable for an asian audience in ALL incarnations of the story that simply wont fly in american. for example in BOF when Gu Jun Pyo drugs and kidnaps jan di to give her a makeover. i get that it's a tv show, but it was seen as acceptable tv show behavior in asia. you cant do that in america. if you did no one would want them to end up together.

even if you take out the overt physical voilence there is a lot of mental abuse. as much as i love all the versions, it is bascially a story about a spoiled boarder line sociopath who bullies a girl into liking him.

have you SEEN any of the other adaptations? they are ALL cheesy and weird in their own way.

how do you plan on getting people who have never heard of BOF interested in this. also, will the title change at all? to those outside of drama land the title probably wont make much sense.
