The ML & FL are having a bit of a talk about romance and SML basically comes out of nowhere and ruins the moment by misunderstanding & kisses FL. FL clearly refuses SML’s advances from start to finish.
I saw two other previous versions and of course this one seems better. He is not as funny as I remember him as a character but definitely an improvement from other stories at least visually..
From ep 24-25 it went down the drain.. I finally finished the series and still fail to understand why people like it so much. With each episode watched, I would loose more focus and it became more annoying ..glad to be done with it. Next time I will be more careful with the series I choose to watch.
This is basically the 3rd series (after Falling into your smile and Legend of awakening) I saw with Cheng Xiao as a FL and from now on I will make sure to avoid them all..She must have some strong influence backing her up because she can’t act for shit..
After episode 20 all I can say is..please give me patience as I might break something soon..
Why are the 3 main ladies so frustrating?!
I watched a lot of series and seen a lot of dumb characters but Qing Qing is up there in my top 10. This girl is absolutely stupid and lives in her own imaginary world of unicorns and butterflies. So her daddy who is a proper murderer can be easily forgiven and she can selfishly ask that he’s let go of (even after he tried to strangle her) but her own lover (who always saved her ass and is now dying because of it) is definitely the bad guy because he said he approached her intentionally. Which intelligent being would actually even believe that narrative. Even his own brother got the clue without much explanation.
Yunxi is absolutely obsessed with the Crown prince even after the guy tells it straight to her face that he’s just not interested. But no, let’s do stupid shit to protect him and listen to a bratty servant who in any other series would’ve been flogged to death by now for not knowing her place. Every time I see her “conflicted” face on the screen I want to shake her up so she stops making stupid decisions.
Wang Qing is not as bad as the other two but still makes risky and stupid decisions because of her desire for revenge. Even though Sikong explains clearly that she’s not a warrior and cannot take the enemy by herself, she doesn’t seem to understand until she actually is in great danger. Hopefully now (after Sikong almost lost his life) she can stop to think before acting on her own.
No wonder FL’s sister felt familiar..she was in Ashes of Love. Surprised to see her again..Why is she always playing un-likeable roles? I kinda feel sorry for her.. She’s a such a good actress, the kind that you will love to hate…hopefully she won’t get stuck in such roles for much longer..
The episodes are too short and you cannot properly understand the background. Even after 30eps in I don’t get it how they got involved in the first place and why she avoids him.
This is such a mess..if they slowed down a bit so people actually have time to understand the plot and not skip scene to scene, maybe they could’ve made it interesting..
So like the comments don't help me at all... Is this worth watching or no?
I have 8 more episodes to go and until now I wanted to drop it countless times. From my point of view, not worth it..there are better series out there with a similar plot. It started promising and then went downhill.
May I ask if this drama is another low budget drama with too much romcom compared to the seriousness in facing…
I only watched 3 episodes until now and found it a bit ridiculous at times..at the level where it’s watchable but not the best. It’s supposed to be comedy, romance & detective so don’t expect anything too serious.
FL comes from a famous family of thieves so she’s uncouth, stubborn and takes decisions which put at risk the wellbeing of those around her. After she gets into trouble, she does the puppy eyes and ML forgives and helps her again and again.
You can watch it raw on Mango’s youtube channel but be aware that it’s short and messy.
With only a few episodes (initially 24x5 but less on youtube as Mango has portioned them differently) there is no room for character development.
To see the main girl “jump” from character to character (assasin, maid, guard, begger and herself?) was supposed to be funny but all it did was to confuse both the prince and the audience. I can understand about 60-70% of what they’re talking about so blame my Chinese knowledge as well, but until close to the end, there doesn’t seem to be much development going on. He’s most of the time calling the guards on her while she finds opportunities to kill or be killed in a clumsy way. In this time, for heaven knows why, he becomes attached emotionally. I guess the ending is the saving grace for it.
When it started, it looked promising but the acting put me off quite early on.
They used such an outdated technique of acting (overdone expressions and gestures for comedic effect, which unfortunately backfired into cringe) that I felt I was transported back in time to 2004/2005 live-actions of popular mangas.
Although the actors were lacking chemistry throughout the series, I was surprised about the intensity of the kissing scenes. It felt a bit out of place compared to the rest of the bland piece that was the series. Led by the main actor, you’ll be going from an awkward scene to hot kissing in seconds. This makes me think that it might have been a directing issue rather than a bad acting one (hopefully).
Sosuke is a perfect example of a male lead straight from shoujou manga pages and this usually brings popularity (for obvious reasons) so I can see why Kenta would take such a project. It remains to be seen if he will take better roles after this series or get stuck in such an image.
OK, my conclusion after the first few episodes is that they have absolutely no chemistry at all. A series should captivate you since the first scene and keep you interested until the end but I feel that I’m forcing myself to keep focus.
XZL is not really the best actor out there/ he can be a hit or miss, but he’s at least watchable. Can’t say the same for the main actress who, from my point of view, has no presence whatsoever on screen. Also their micro-expressions are off-putting and they make you think of low-budget series although by cinematography, it doesn’t look that far off from other popular series who didn’t require a lot of investment to be loved by the public.
These are the reasons for which I struggle to follow the storyline..

I wouldn’t recommend this series to you.
