Theres only two dramas that made me want to check out the novel. It was Ancient Love Poetry and this drama, The Blue Whisper. ALP is still my favorite and TBW is currently my obsession HAHA. But I did not finish both novels for the same reason. I wanted to enjoy watching the drama more through being clueless. Watching without knowing the future just like you said, indeed enhance the watching experience and is more fun. Watching The Long Ballad also tempted me to check the manhwa, the art and pacing of the story was really engaging to see! But sadly, I was not able to finish it too last year ever since I got hospitalised. 😅
Oh, I did not study chinese but I can understand some basic words which allowed me to understand the drama a bit. ( For example, I understood in EP10 that Hao Qing asked “What are you implying by doing this?” and the assistant responded as “The Lord’s rules states that if the Litte Master is hurt, punsihment will be bestowed to the culprit.” ). I also understand some of the complicated texts since I have watched xianxia dramas which gave me a bit of an idea of what they are saying. ( For example, “Ling Zhi”= Ganoderma, Ling Shi= Spiritual Stones, Da Wei Ba Yu = Big Tailed fish, and some more). The quote from the drama I mentioned above are taken from @afternoont in twitter who translates some of her/his favourite scenes from TBW. I really enjoy her translations and posts since it is fun and somewhat coherent with what I understood while watching too.
JYH: later after we escape, we’ll find someone to make a more expensive and nicer outfit
CY: no need, I look handsome, everything I wear looks good on me.
He is indeed pure guys. Look at this “honesty”. I can die peacefully now after laughing so hard.
PS: These translated texts are done by @afternoont in twitter :))
-Changyi in Episode 10
Jealousy…So cute >…< I also wish time stopped right here. But I am very prepared “for their lovely date”! :))
“I used to put up with lots of things, gave up a lot just to escape thousand flowers valley, because I think it’s all for freedom. But now I understand, that’s not the meaning of freedom and living. Whatever the future awaits, let’s go and see it together okay?”
-Drama (Episode 8)
“…freedom is not about being able to go anywhere you want," she said. "It's being able to decide for yourself."
-Novel (Chapter 99)
I think I don’t want to finish the novel now. I’ll stop right here at CH99 with the memory of Yunhe’s quote above buried in my mind. I want to enjoy the drama better and be like everyone, clueless but is having fun. Even if I get tempted to know the answer to my questions in the novel, I’d try to pull myself back with all determination.
To be honest, choosing to read the novel was like throwing myself in a dark pit with only the moonlight to light the way, It was so depressing. But, it is very soul-stirring to read. On the other hand, the drama itself will shower you a lot of fireflies, a thousand hope for a much joyful and less agonising experience. It is coupled with gorgeous actors and amazing acting that perfectly fit all of the characters features in the novel, what more could a novel reader ask for.
For example, Loulou is exactly what I imagined her to be- intensely loyal, bubbly and clueless most of the time- still always manages to steal my heart. Changyi, the pretty and big tailed fish, a mirror of the looks cold-but is the- kindest of all noble merman. Yunhe, the mysterious, dreamy and determined warrior that deserve happiness the most. All of the casts introduced as the characters was a delight to see come to life that I feel like crying my eyes out of joy.
Blue Whisper is truly unique and enjoyable to read as a novel but the drama will pull you in just as equally. I’m so looking forward for the future episodes and see what is in for Yunhe and Changyi in the drama!
Yunhe is tortured by the old man every time she does something he doesn't want or everytime she doesnt follow his orders perfectly.... He's a selfish, psychopathic and crazy old man. I couldn't even understand how his assistant fell in love with a kind of person who want to make his own offspring crazy like him....
Pictures of the conversations on the twitter link below but it was not translated in detailed… :’((
