Yes, it's been more than a month since my addiction to English dramas started! I owe a big part of that to mysecretsoul who recommended me Pride & Prejudice (Colin Firth <3) and North and South (Richard Armitage <3).

Loved N&S so much I couldn't get Richard Armitage out of my head, unnie! :)

Has Tae Hee taken on his father's case? He will investigate that fateful night of the accident and will not let up until he finds the truth. :)

Lol! 40 episodes! XD And when Soo Young's mother appear, I just want to strangle her!

Then it must be me. Stephen's eyes had a soft glow to them and they were constantly that way to me throughout the film. It was okay. I wasn't too excited about his vegetable wife--I thought it was too Jane Eyre-ish.

I had a thought bubble telling me: Beware of handsome Englishmen! When they say they want you or propose to marry you, make sure he doesn't have a first wife who is either 1) a crazy b*tch who sets everything on fire or 2) a paralyzed woman lying on his bed with open eyes. ;) But I did like how she developed a loving relationship with her daughter. Hearing her finally call her 'Mama' was so satisfying!

Mmm! I haven't read anything on the Brontes. Maybe that's why their works are dark?

He is. He's just biding time. Her father is an important part of the twist. I see you're 18 episodes down to the last stretch. :)

I'm not too fond of Tae Bum and Soo Young as a couple. The push and pull became overwhelming that it killed the romance for me. The insecurities got in the way plus her mother was too meddlesome!

Tae Sik had confidence issues being the first-born son. He failed a lot in his life and he was a sad case. But the moment he treats his son better and works hard for it--that got him on my good side. But there were times I wanted to strangle him for being such a lame father.

My dear, was it me or I thought Stephen Dillane's eyes were warm and kind, not as scorching as I though they'd be. He played a character with conscience and so that's why I thought he was warm and it reflected at how he looked at her and even his wife.

I watched Miss Austen Regrets and felt a bit sad and disappointed at how her real life turned out to be. It must have been hard for her to live in that lifetime. It felt like time was always running short and everything was a mess. It dispelled any thought of romanticism and just bared what kind of a sad life a female writer had in the early 19th century.

My only complaint is that the movie supposes that the viewers already know Jane Austen's family and biography to a certain level that they don't introduce the characters. And with that, one has to listen intently at the mention of their names and relation to JA.

Ice cream would be nice to get by the sad episodes. But I am confident you'll enjoy the twists you'll find in each mini-story.

Seeing how Ja Eun and Tae Hee's love story grow was a pleasure to watch as was Tae Sik and Guk Su's developments. If there were any disappointments that I didnt like, it was Soo Young being a spoiled b*tch! But other than her, the drama in general is good!

Don't hold back and don't worry too much about your English. :) You're doing fine!

I'm also a sucker for the fantasy genre. ;) I've seen Tokyo Girl and like you said even though it's not so original,…
Thanks! I can't deny I'm currently obsessed with him--as you can see. :D I thank mysecretsoul for prodding me to watch North & South. Otherwise, I wouldn't have discovered RA and the other side of the drama world. ^-^

I'm also a sucker for the fantasy genre. ;) I've seen Tokyo Girl and like you said even though it's not so original, it's still a cute movie. The old lady made me cry and she lived through a hundred years to express her gratitude and remorse to her.

I've added Real since I also like sci-fi and of course the lead actors. Thanks so much for your movie picks! :)

I'll have to ask her. She's into mystery and detective stuff and have always been into anime but the last time I asked her to watch a scary mystery movie with me, she went straight into her room and never came back to me. :P

But perhaps she'd like these literary pieces--oh scratch--I'd like her to try these pieces. They're short and metaphorical and so they encourage critical thinking and awareness. :) Thanks!

It would have made a great dark material if it had more depth and offered more of its own mystery rather than just referring to other 'Gothic' literary works which Jane Austen obviously took fancy of.

But well, who am I to say, I haven't really read it. I did enjoy its romance part and that has always been Jane Austen's strongest and central point.

Mononoke--the mystery series one and not the Princess Mononoke one, right?

Let's just say I'm inclined to watch the 1999 version than the later one. Moreover, because of that blog post, I am hesitant of picking up Ruby in the Smoke but I figured I must scratch any preformed discrimination against Billie Piper because I haven't seen her act so I shouldn't be so judgmental. :P Also, the drama might be a breath of fresh air since it's a departure from the romantic ones I've been watching recently.

Oh! Now I am more intrigued at Firelight! The premise is already interesting and now the male lead's eyes is on fire? Hmmm!

I haven't seen Dangerous Liaisons (but oh, Glenn Close and John Malkovich!) and only picked Valmont solely on Colin Firth and Annette Benning. The one-liner description on wiki wasn't exactly helpful but now that you've described it that way, well then this I have got to see! Q___Q

Futuristic anime? Hmm, maybe I can get my daughter to watch that!

Not as much as I liked P&P. But that might be because I've seen novel adaptations that incorporate more elements to the story than just plain romance. Plus there was one important part of the adaptation that was more tell than show. I've never read the book so I wouldn't know if the drama was true to it but it would have been better if there were more scenes tackling the 'secret' of the abbey.

But I do like JJ Feild and how he acts. He does have a charming smile and his eyes...ohmygoodness...they are very pretty. And don't forget the curls! XD I am under the impression that Henry Tilney is more amiable than Mr. Darcy and certainly more caring that the romance is naturally attached to it.

I wanted to start on Mansfield Park but then I read a blogpost comparing the 1999 and 2007 versions that were full of spoilers. :\ (I asked for it!)

Part 2 coming up!

Whew. Haven't the slightest idea what to pick up next. I'm enamored with JJ Feild's handsome face and nuanced acting. ;)
Though I am eyeing a few ones from the Big List namely Firelight, Miss Austen Regrets, Ruby in the Smoke and Valmont.

I've seen a couple from before: The Count of Monte Cristo and Becoming Jane. Although I think I'd like to revisit them some time.

I don't know why I'm so touchy about this movie. It had moms, kids, elderly people and it talked about love, life and death, parenting, relationships of parents and children and it all made my cry for about a good half of the film. I thought they meshed the fantasy of his curious case to all of those elements I've mentioned. Just recalling how she took care of him in his last days of erm--infancy was too touching.

Cate did so good in that and I don't know about Brad Pitt, he's okay I guess. It's just that I can't seem to differentiate his characters in every movie I've seen him in. Or maybe because his good looks are overwhelming.

Haha! I start to confuse them too. That was also why I rewatched The English Patient. I thought that was the film and he didn't move in that movie as well.

Thanks for the big list! I will start with Northanger Abbey and work my way through. ;) And while I was waiting for that, I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button because I was curious about it. Ha! XD And then what a coindcidence just as we were talking about Oscar and Lucinda, lo and behold, it was Cate Blanchett on my screen. The last two movies I've seen has Cate Blanchett in them.

Part two coming up! Characters remaining went negative. XD

I've also seen the Pianist (when I was a teenager XD). The cutting of her finger was shocking and it made me tingle to the very roots of my hair! O__O

No, I've seen The English Patient for more than a couple of times. At first, I really hated that RF chose to play the Count but when I re-watched it some years later, I sort of contextualized how each of them felt and the war that was going on at the background. I think the film is Oscar and Lucinda with Cate Blanchett as the female lead. I saw some pictures from the film and it had the glass house--which was a church on a platform, floating on water. And it's also based on a novel! :)

Yes! I'll be looking forward to the big list! :) Thanks in advance!

I was browsing through our conversation over the last month (my dear, we've been chatting about English dramas for 30 days!) and was trying to list all the titles of dramas and movies you've recommended. Would it bother if I asked you a full list? XD I'll be checking some adaptations on my own but I think you have more in your arsenal to lead me to very good ones. :D

I think I've seen The Quiz Show several years back. I watched a number of his films after Schindler's List. (Cried lots and lots seeing that film, I couldn't get over it.) There is one movie which I can't remember the title, where he was lying paralyzed and got raped by a married lady. Poor man couldn't do anything when she uh--sat on him. XD I tried so hard to recall the title and search them in movies. All I can remember is the glass house was sinking and the woman locked herself in it...Ahh I have to search for it again! Q____Q

I'll check that 1999 version and take a peek at the HH series as well. :)

Yes, that's the one. Ah, I didn't take notice about the modern language. I was too intent trying to get through their accent. O___O I guess I am too dependent on subs now. XD I thought Toby Stephens did well esp in the last two eps but before that I wasn't too impressed.
