The Cheng Yi you mention is the main lead in Sword and Beloved? I watched several dramas with him and they were generally good. This one (Whispers of Fate) isn't with him and isn't bad. I also liked the story, only thought that the ML's role was too exaggerated (they made him "perfect", which became tiring).

Just finished. Awesome series! It's very underrated and should be 9.5+. The story, direction, acting, special effects production and soundtrack are excellent! They went way beyond in this drama. I hope there's a season 2 with the same crew, including actors, directors, producers, etc.
Yep. You are correct. I messed up the names. I agree. She liked him but when she got her memory back, things changed and she distanced from him. For a very short time there was some kind of triangle because the princess started liking him, but in an awkward way. This triangle felt like something that someone told the screenwriter to dump in the story and ended up very weird. That's my perception about the whole thing. ;-)
TLC and XFT seemed going towards becoming a couple while XFT had not recovered her memories. However, ZCJ became emboldened after becoming a princess and was even used for the trap. However, things were very mellow and then one recovered her memories and the other realized she wasn't much into TLC. That's why I used "forced". 😉
This is a very good drama. I also just finished Sword and Beloved and found it better than this one. Therefore, gave this one a slightly lower rating than S&B. For me, what threw me back a bit on this story was Tang Li Ci too "perfect". That triangle(?) between Tang Li Ci, Zhong Chun Ji and Xi Fang Tao was a bit weird and felt "forced". Felt like production saying "we need to put a love triangle in the story" and they simply dropped one there. Anyway, the story's concept was excellent, the production, special effects, CGI and acting in general also awesome.
