There’s a significant difference between the NC scenes in a BL like Only Friends and full-on porn. In OF, many of us watching know who the actors are because we’ve seen and liked them before in other series and also often know at least a little about their lives away from the studio. The spicy buzz we get watching our biases having intimate contact with somebody different to their regular on-screen partners is like accidentally catching two of our hot neighbors having extra-marital sex and forgetting to close the drapes. Porn is mostly strangers having soulless, mechanical couplings for money, with about as much emotional chemistry as two flies mating on a mouldy sandwich.
I’ll be surprised if the high audience figures for this first episode don’t include a larger than usual number of fudanshi viewers like me, due to its realistic depiction of a lot of gay nightlife worldwide. Neo is killing it for me. Judging from the wicked gleam in his eyes, he looks like he’s enjoying every minute of being out of school uniform and finally playing what I hope will turn out to be the major role his fanbase have been waiting for.
OMG! I’m still reeling after watching the NC scene with Nuea and Lom at the climax(!) of ep 4…..so OK, I’ve watched it three times already. I agree that it’s time Lom told Nuea the truth, but after that scorching NC I don’t think he’s going to be exactly stunned with surprise.
Sunny and Pak are two of the most convincing actors I’ve ever seen in any BL. Like Net Siraphop, they know how to convey their character’s emotions with their eyes and general body language, such a change from the stone faced, blank expressions of so many others, especially in Thai series.
Episode 5 has just lurched its way off my iPad into the oblivion it so richly deserves. Akira is now behaving like a complete psycho. His loopy behavior is obviously too much for the locals. There’s never anyone in the laundromat apart from him, talking to himself in front of the driers. We’ll probably find out in episode 6 that he’s been secretly snorting the washing powder.
I can't believe this is Pak's first drama series! Ever? Wow! For a debut role, he really shines in this show!…
I’m also a gay guy who was about to post an almost-identical comment about this entertaining series until I read this one. I love Pak’s acting for the same reasons you do, he’s a real find. The reason Mame is so constantly employed as a writer is obvious - she attracts huge local and international audiences time after time, exactly what major sponsors like McDonalds are looking for. Wedding Plan is my current favorite series.
Throughout human history, older gay men have had successful relationships with younger partners. I know this because I’m happily half of one myself. Like Shin, it was my younger soulmate who initiated it and, now in our seventh year, it’s stronger than ever. Shin and Asuka are both super-cute, intelligent young guys. Why the screenwriters thought anyone would believe that they’d put up with the psychotic behavior being displayed by both Akira and Asuka’s wax dummy of a boyfriend is beyond me. This is by far the biggest letdown of any BL series in 2023 so far. 0/10.
I’m fudanshi, and can’t imagine that any gay man, getting fake-hetero married to a gay woman to please their parents, would feel like blurting that out to a wedding planner he barely knows, no matter how cute he was, unless he was certain the response would be a positive one. Lom only kissed Namnuea after he heard him say “do you want me to loosen your lips with mine”. The shocked response to the kiss from Namnouea, even after what he said, was really well-portrayed by Pak. So far at least, I totally love this series.
Boy likes girl but is too awkward and shy around her. Boy asks girl’s ex-boyfriend for tips to help him capture her heart. Boys fall in love with each other instead of her, the end. A slight storyline like this can’t be stretched to engagingly fill ten 45+ minute episodes. I’m fudanshi and love Joong and Dunk, but even I can’t wait around that long for an occasional glimpse of Dunk wearing shorts.
It’s interesting to see how writer Mame is so heavily involved with the production of this series, similar to Alice Oseman with Heartstopper. I really liked the first episode, the two lead guys are great, the pace of the dialog isn’t slowed down by ludicrous staring and I loved Lom’s waterskiing scene. Prediction: if this standard is kept up, Wedding Plan will be one of the hit BLs of the year.
I’m so disappointed with the first three episodes of this sequel. I loved the original series so much that I watched it twice, something I hardly ever do. I hope those who have seen ep 4 are right and things start becoming a bit more believable. Shin and Asuka are both drop-dead gorgeous and intelligent, perfect boyfriend material. Akira’s behavior towards Shin is bad enough, but Asuka’s love-object has all the personality of chopped liver past its use-by date.
What is it about Rak that has all the guys supposedly lusting after him? He is kind of cute, but with zero personality,…
In the synopsis at the head of this page, Rak is described as “Bunny-cute”. Perhaps this means that in a future episode he’ll get eaten by his new room-mate’s snake.
Four episodes in and, for me at least, the most intriguing character in this series is Rak. A master of self-control, his blank stare barely flickers whether he’s peeling oranges or being sexually assaulted. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was taught to act at the same school as the cast of Check Out.
Please, pretty please, just give me a semblance of realism. This is just not it. HOW. HOW. HOW I just keep asking…
I agree with every word. If someone as ideal a potential lover as Shin wanted to move in, the average gay guy (like myself) wouldn’t be giving him the key to next door!
Two things really stand out for me in the first two episodes of this LOL series: I love how the beginning and end of each episode feature previews of the still-to-happen romantic relationship between Bu Xia and Jiang Chi and, like almost everyone else, I’m blown away by the potato chip scene. There’s no doubt in my mind that that’s destined to become a BL series classic.
