Karl is spending time with his family for "Noche Buena" which is a feast celebrated the night of 24th of December…
Absolutely not majority of the population. Most people don't care as long as everyone is decent about it and not shoving it in anyone's throat. There are vocal minority, but that is true even in the most progressive country out there. I would say the acceptance of LGBT is much higher among younger people. The older the person, the more it leans towards tolerance. They won't publicly oppose any openly gay people but behind closed doors we just know there is some negative things they say about it. Far from ideal, but at least they have the decency to keep it to themselves.
Even Catholic schools which is probably the most religious place for any young people outside of church rarely police behaviors of their gay students. When i lived in PH i went to two catholic schools. One was co-ed (boy and girl school) and one all-boys school. Both had no problems admitting gay students and neither really policed anyone's actions nor censored anyone for being one.
I was never bullied or saw someone bullied for being gay either. Although i think all your classmates staying the same 9 hours a day for an entire school year and 1 or 2 school-hosted outdoor retreat in a province helped strengthened thr bond between students. By the end of thr school year it just felt like we're one big extended family. Even if we switched homeroom, you pretty much know the person even if you no longer belong to the same group.
The nuns and priests that ran the schools have no problem seeing gays hold student body representative positions. They even ask help from gays who are 100% in tune with their artistic side when organizing and hosting school events and give them full credits for all their hard work publicly.
Again, experience varies from place to place within a country, just like comparing San Francisco vs. Some small town in Texas. I'd say 75-90% of the Philippines (at least in cities) do not care if you're gay, as long as you're not stepping on someone's toes.
The Philippines definitely has a long way to go when it comes to LGBT acceptance. It does have far more understanding of Gays and Lesbians, and to some degree, Bisexuals, but Trans support is virtually non-existent. I'd say below 10-15% acceptance rate. They're still mostly seen as abomination even among younger crowd only having slightly better views of Trans people.

The Philippines is a strong catholic majority nation and a lot identify as catholic even the openly LGBT members. Yes there are vocal groups of anti LGBT movement within the religious, but a lot of communities isn't actively advocating for the elimination of LGBT within the community. If that was the case, then PH BL wouldn't even be greenlit, yet it was, and have a strong catalog of LGBT focused films prior the explosion of BL in the country. It's relatively open for a country whose 97+% of its population identifies themselves as very religious. If you look at the list of countries with that kind of religion penetration, most of them have laws against LGBT or at least it's a taboo subject matter that companies won't dare touch.
The country as a whole celebrates Christmas even the muslim minorities in the south. Christmas is more of a national holiday rather than a religious one. The gay experience as pertains to religion is different from one country to another. I, myself don't care for religion either. I think a lot of unnecessary hate towards other people (not just LGBT) stems from it. I'm only telling this to give you more context in the significance of Karl's actions for Vlad.
I think It's A drama that always "almost" there and not reaching nowhere, for example episode 4, Vlady beggin…
Karl is spending time with his family for "Noche Buena" which is a feast celebrated the night of 24th of December to early hours of the 25th - a Filipino tradition and a family get-together affair. Vlad originally wanted to spend his time with Karl and celebrate Noche Buena despite his disdain for the capitalization of Christmas but Karl said Anna will give him ride home to his parents and spend his time with his family - the right thing to do. "Next day" which is Christmas, 25th, is actually Vlad's birthday.
Karl took off all Christmas decorations while he was sleeping when culturally speaking, Christmas is the single biggest holiday in the Philippines unofficially starting September and ends mid-January. It's weird to take Christmas decorations off before "Media Noche" which is another family gathering the night of the Dec 31 spilling into the morning of the New Year, let alone taking it off on Christmas day. He took the decorations off and replaced it with birthday decorations for Vlad. This is a big deal. It's clear Karl cares for him enough to do it. Everything Gaya Sa Pelikula has done so far has been an organic progression from strangers towards lovers.
No the biphobic sentence was not needed, Rocky has admitted what he is
I don't think they meant to be biphobic. A lot of gays say they're bisexual to avoid the discrimination that comes with being homosexual especially when they are straight passing, so it is a valid point. To Judah, what Rocky is doing is the same thing his Lolly and Mom did. Pushing him away not knowing the reason why. It's a fool me once fool me twice thing.
I REALLY wanna hate how Judah is handling this, BUT i understand him. Do i choose someone who've always chosen me, or the one i want but is unsure of what he wants?
"Bisexuality isn't a gray area when you're just afraid to admit that you're gay." Extremely valid point, but Rocky has yet to figure out what he is, really, so chill Judah.
Those who have had a crush on their childhood friend but weren't able to confess their feelings will find this…
I haven't seen anything Teejay have done either and I'm impressed. He's not overacting or underacting. I've seen some of Jerome's work here and there so i know he can deliver in this series. This is gonna be good.
"You don't have to act like a jealous boyfriend. Anna knows were just pretending." Karl explained. "Who says I'm acting!?" As pouting Vlad adorably crossed his arms.
Shamelessly simping for Jose Vladimir Austria until further notice.
So based on the runtime and the plotting (this is all happening over a couple of days, or so it seems), this feels…
I know. Gaya Sa Pelikula only have 8 episodes on its first season and Friday is already mid-season. I wouldn't be worried if it had 12 eps. The wattpad chapters looks like they're made for 40-44 minute episodes and so many things happen in one chapter. I hope they bump the run time moving forward.
Season 2 is almost guaranteed at this point. It's a hit for Globe Studios, plus creator and director wants it, and I'm sure Ian and Paolo is ready for it. They only took 9 days to shoot the first season. It shouldn't be a no brainer to take it even if that 9 days becomes a month for Season 2.
See, they can release it in one video instead of splitting it into two with so much filler in between. It just flowed better. I'm bummed we never saw pangs reunite. I really hope they get a new writer/director for the second season. I think there was potential there but they just lost fuel mid-series.
Another great ep! Vlad calling Karl, Arki (architecture student), is cute. Their neighbor Anna looks like a good additional support character. She's like Judit lite. It's nice that Karl backed Vlad up when Judit asked him to convince Vlad to come home and then Vlad smiled and then i died. I love that Vlad asked for consent when he was about to give him a peck. Ate Judit is great as usual! We are all her when she said "do it!!" I love that Vlad asked for consent when he was about to give him a peck. Paolo's eyelashes!!!
The condom product placement tie-in was funny. I think Karl thought it was chocolate or cookies since she was holding cookies on her other hand, so he said put it on the fridge, not realizing Vlad found lube on Ate Judit's groceries. We stan. Karl's face when Vlad told his ex on the phone that he's staying with just a friend screams jealousy. He's starting to feel things. New OST!!
I think I'm full-on simping for Ian (Vlad). Every time he smiles I forget to function as a human being lol
New director, writer and editor hopefully. On top of awful fillers, there's a lot of hand holding on this series too. We get the twists, no need to reiterate it.
That's a weird note to end the episode tbh. Everything coming out of the Philippines is so short. Apart from My Day, everything has 20-22 minute runtime. We need 40-42 minute episode standard.
Oh my god the filler on this series is getting on my nerves. The first 4 minutes and 30 seconds of this episode is intro or repeat scenes from the last episode. Almost every episode of in between could be a 10 minute cut and nothing of essence would be lost. If they renew this for s2, they better hire a new director.
It is a part of the Filipino culture, one that should change but in the meantime we can enjoy the show and try…
Some people do, because asian media is dominated by lighter skinned celebrities. Doesn't matter which country. Representation wise, there aren't enough darker toned asian celebrities to look up to. So that, coupled with non-stop skin lightening ads and messaging portrayed on TV and elsewhere results in general insecurity about dark skin. People are starting to wake up on this issue, but it's slow, because it's still "normal" to want to have lighter skin.
