Hmm. The trailer indicates he knows he's attracted to guys. Ken's mom asked him why was she the last to know, and ken told her that she's always known he is, she's just the last one to admit it.

It is a part of the Filipino culture, one that should change but in the meantime we can enjoy the show and try…
They are, but at least it doesn't damage the psyche of the general population. It's sad that little children who aren't comfortable with their skin and they are being exposed with the idea of having a lighter skin is better than being brown. It's so bad out there that calling someone with ugly or poor because they have brown on national TV is still a normal occurrence on noon time shows and passed on as humor. They don't always say it directly, but if you dissect the segment, the messaging is clear. What's worse is the target audience of noon time shows are the working class during their lunch.

It's normal for PH celebrities to endorse skin lightening stuff even when the reason they have a light skin is they are of mixed descent. It's atrocious that Philippine celebrities and philippine companies are getting away with it. One that sticks out to me is one of the most followed PH celebrity, Anne Curtis-Smith. She's literally half Australian and it's not even a secret. She has tons of young, impressionable fan base and she has tons of skin-whitening ads flooding TV airwaves, billboards, and online including her socials.

Colorism ≠ racism.

I was born in PH and "colorism" is 100% a class issue rather than race issue and that is true for most asian countries. It's already been documented that people of lighter skin is treated better by society and for Asians, it doesn't necessarily mean white vs. black. It has existed centuries before colonial period in any of these Asian countries. People associate people who are darker are poor because jobs that is typically associated to working under the sun are low paying jobs (peasants, farmers, construction workers, miners, street vendors, etc).

You can see the classism in ABS-CBN or GMA Teleseryes where the "poor" person always is the darker of the two leads. Example: Mara Clara (2010). Story of two children switched at birth. Rich couple + Clara (who were supposed to be the poor couple) = all light skinned actors some half-white actors too. Poor couple + Mara (who were supposed to be the daughter of the rich couple) = all brown skinned actors, pure Filipino actors. You don't have to look deep. Amor vs. Claudia. Ivy vs Emilia. The society have always been conditioned that light skin = rich and brown skin = poor. That's why skin whitening creams, lotions, soaps are a thing in most Asian countries. It's not because they wanna be "white". They just want the society to not perceive them as "poor" and these beauty companies converts that insecurity into money. This has always been an issue everywhere even in the most homogenous cultures from the beginning of time. It's only the recent years that the societal issue of colorism came to public eye.

I live in the US now and It's inversely proportional for western countries, where people with evenly Tanned skin is seen as a luxury assuming the person have means to go on vacation somewhere tropical. Even then, we have tanning salons everywhere, but we don't see ads about it everywhere or bombard the TV with tanning ads as liberal as Asia does with skin-whitening products and procedures.

I am really confused about where this story is going. Its like I missed an entire conversation about Tau being…
I think Tau just called Otep a "friend" in front of Ri for the surprise. Either Ri knew all along, or Tau admitted their real status during their one on one talks (which made Otep jealous of Ri) and asked his help to plan their monthsary dinner. By the time Ri were asking Otep if he prefers candlelit dinner for two or stargazing, he is already in on Tau's plan.

This was better than I expected o.o

Acting is up there. They do have strong veteran support with Yayo Aguila and Jojit Lorenzo. It's refreshing to see PH media give rookies main roles. Hopefully this trend continues once mainstream production companies start making theirs, although I doubt they'll do that. They're gonna make multi-year long "love teams" out of it and milk it until it's dead, just watch lol.

Strong start overall. The opening sounds like it's an ABS-CBN drama opening. (that's not a bad thing lol)
On My Day the Series Sep 28, 2020
Sorry, i find it funny that a lot of YT comments say My Day is the "best" PH BL so far like... maybe in terms of kissing/steamy scenes it definitely is the best out of less than a dozen completed and currently airing BLs since May. But writing wise, directing wise, acting wise, My Day is still average to below average everything PH produced BL thus far. It annoys me because they're posting this outside of My Day videos, too. A number of BL fans seem to value kissing scenes over everything. I had the same problem with the higher rated Thai BLs being the ones with the more kissing/steamier scenes. Then again, the genre was born out of fantasizing two men being "husband and wife" so I guess it comes with it lol.

Kent and C-Rex hosted a livestream reactors meet with the cast, director and writer/producer of GSP (Jump to 2…
I love the part where they said that while the Philippines have quite a fair share of LGBT stories, it's almost always aimed towards international award giving bodies, and stories that win those is about struggles, deaths, HIV, almost always tend to focus on the negative side of LGBT. They said Philippines was long overdue for positive LGBT representation and the recent surge of the BL genre in the country was the perfect vehicle for their tag line "take back our stories".

They are hoping that the older generation LGBT people in the mainstream industry to have a chance to tell their stories too. They have been working on straight stories their entire time as the suits won't let them since they think there is no market for it. I felt that. It's true. There are tons of LGBT storytellers and directors telling straight stories in the Philippines. LGBT roles are always the side character or the comedic relief, never the protagonist, even when the writers and directors are LGBT members themselves. All mainstream media houses in the Philippines are dead set on creating "love teams" and just pump out the same love team over and over again until a new shinier one emerges.

I love that the reactors also asked what they think of the surge of BLs and the legitimacy and representation of the LGBT stories being told in Philippine BL and JSM said along the lines of the blind men and an elephant parable where blind men touch the elephant and describe what they felt. No one person will be able to tell the whole story, but multiple blind men giving their takes will let you see the bigger picture of what's in front of them. Just because someone is saying something different, doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong. That we are on a spectrum and what one person experience, doesn't invalidate someone else, and vice versa. I absolutely love that. And he added that saturating the market isn't necessarily a bad thing. There will be bad takes on it, for sure, but saturating the market will drown the bad ones in the sea of good representation on what LGBT stories look like.

They said that their ultimate goal is to normalize LGBT stories to the point where "BL" and mainstream lines are so blurred you can't even tell it is BL. We stan! Quite frankly, the pace in which PH BL is moving, I think the lines are already being blurred. A lot of PH BLs already doesn't look like it's marketed towards young straight women which BLs from other countries are 100% targeting.

I love the questions thrown by reactors and the answers by both Paolo and Ian, as well as Direk JP and JSM. One of the best live streams I've seen yet. Kent and C-Rex should pat themselves for this one. Absolutely lovely live stream.

I wish people who do eng sub for PH BLs would just type in Filipino honorifics as is like Thai honorifics. Ate and Kuya (big sister/big brother) is basically the same as P'. It applies to everyone, regardless if you're related or not. Same with Tito/Tita which means Uncle/Auntie, but also applies to everyone else who is significantly older than you like Manong/Manang. It's so weird seeing subbed names without proper honorifics, just because it doesn't have an english equivalent. It feels impolite not to have it there. Not everything have to be translated. These are easily digestible words and are frequently used in everyday conversations that a casual viewer would pick up in a heartbeat.
