Sigh guess only way to make it easier to root for Ying Zheng is to make Jing Ke as annoying as possible in recent developments. His reactions are perfectly human but he really needs to learn how to think on his feet like his senior Han Shen. But if Jing Ke was any more likeable as male lead then nobody would root for YZ and GSL-YZ wouldn't be the main OTP
So the king kept mentioning he never sleeps with any of his concubines...but he goes to them occasionally every…
He sleeps with his concubines as in does the deed but doesn't fall asleep next to them and all that cuddly stuff. Ying Zheng is known to be a paranoid man who trusts few and here only with GSL does he let his guard down
I like Dilraba and Zhang Bin Bin and look forward to some intense OTP romance, but one cant help but feel bad…
Me too. I feel like we are in the minority that likes Jing Ke. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to this push/pull romance of the King and Gong Sun Li and their chemistry is full of sparks, but stepping aside from the bias they're the OTP -and objectively looking at this, it's a forced romance where the girl ends up falling for the manipulator (granted one that has very genuine feelings towards her) it's not exactly a great love story worth rooting for. And left with a lot of injustice for one side (Jing Ke)
It's interesting how some fans see Jing Ke as a "third wheel" of sorts when it's actually the King
Aaaaand I'm probably the worst person to watch dramas with
I like Dilraba and Zhang Bin Bin and look forward to some intense OTP romance, but one cant help but feel bad for the poor guy Jing Ke. His lover and child taken from him, he was almost killed and didnt even know it. And he‘s the reason why she even offered herself to the King, to save him. And as usual, he's the last person to find out everything.
On top of that, girl's probs gonna choose the man who took everything from him, over him one day. Ouch
Cant blame the guy for wanting to kill the male lead. If it was any other drama, he'd be the protagonist and all of us would be rooting for him. Funny how which perspective and OTP is being sold changes everything but no amount of pretty OTP can make me ignore just how twisted this romance really is .
Still i like how different this is for a change , and Dilraba and ZBB‘s chemistry and visual power is key in selling this romance. Btw can anyone tell me how this drama is doing in China so far?
is it just me that i really dont see their romance at all?
@SML you described exactly how I feel the romance and chemistry of the actors are. Yuan Zhan I am convinced about as a man in love with his micro expressions and way he looks at QC, whereas Yuan Ling we only know he's in love because he says he is lol. I feel more sparks between Yuan Zhan and Qing Chen in their first duet scene alone than 5 minutes of Yuan Ling and Qing Chen.
I usually pick my ships based on chemistry and so far she has it better with Joe Xu who also happens to be a stronger actor
I just have a little question, how is Liu Chang's character in this drama?
You're right most people only seem to be interested in the OTP and don't really care much for him knowing he won't get to be with the girl . His character hasn't shown much development at this point but I reckon he will once he becomes a major enemy of the king
Chinese historicals are a not so guilty pleasure of mine. Scarlet Heart, Prince of Lan Ling, Sound of the Desert and The Glamorous Imperial Concubine- are all among my top 5 favorite C-dramas. Glamorous Imperial Concubine made me a fan of Chinese historicals and start searching for more -the story, characters, acting and music were all spot on in that drama
You should also watch "Schemes of a Beauty" which comes HIGHLY recommended
Loving the pace of the story and things just got a whole lot interesting once she entered the palace. Their interactions so far are very intense and well acted . Damn
is it just me that i really dont see their romance at all?
@boby yang I also feel like WC's acting has to do with this lack of connection. Not too convinced by the cold exterior reasoning, I've seen numerous "cold on the outside, hot on the inside" males portrayed in ways that still make the romance work for viewers. Also drama version of Yuan Ling is not exactly a stoic or cold male, we've seen his emotional and playful sides as well. WC has naturally charismatic eyes, just wish he'd put them to good use more when acting.

Not just you, I feel nothing for the OTP. Her and 7th Prince on the other hand have the kind of chemistry you'd expect to see from leads, I find myself looking forward to their scenes more.
So for those who are not able to watch yet but just want to know what has happened so far: The first 6 episodes…
Thing is Qin shi huang was a well known tyrant so I think that side of him reflects historical accuracy to a degree, but doesn't help in selling the beginnings of this romance either way. Dilraba and ZBB's chemistry will have to make up for the toxic relationship of their characters, and based on the promos/trailers I think it'll do just that
