USA - The half of it that hates Donald Trump as much as you do.

After episode 8:

Episodes 4 through 8 have moved my opinion of this show from..."meh, it's ok" to "this is quite good." During 7 I thought it might boldly go where no BL has dared to go before but I was wrong, alas.

Nevertheless, the development and interaction of the MC, and how it has been choreographed and filmed during these episodes, has been lovely. The scene of one painting the other...wow. The camera playing in closeup over QX's handsome beauty as he gazed upon his other in that bright sunlight...exquisite.

TL's acting has impressed throughout, though that side arc has been sloppy at times.

Overall, pretty damn good.

After episode 7:

Out of the blue, one of the most deeply moving BL confession scenes I've ever seen. Major feels and tears here. I had to get the paper towels. Not exactly surprised though; it was clear early on that Zhang Xuan Yu as QX is a terrific actor.

Where are all the usual Church Lady MDLers I expected to find here shrieking "AGE GAP" and "PEDO" all over the place? The actor portraying TL is very good. From the beginning, he has seemed to be two completely different people; one in his teaching role and another in his personal life. Nicely done.

Episode 6:

Sort of a zombie/fish kiss...?
Despite aforementioned dips in the road, I definitely had some goosebumps and eye-feels during the bedroom confrontation scene. Well done!
Not above using some passive aggression to achieve his goals, QL continues to impress with his take-no-prisoners approach to the current state of affairs.

Onward...

Episode 5:

There is a good story here, struggling to tell itself from beneath a heavy blanket of BL tropes and cliches. What frustrates is that they are so unnecessary and could easily have been rewritten to accomplish the same goals.

I am liking Qi Lu more and more as he gently asserts the knowledge his gaydar has granted him. But good lord, stomach aches, fevers, hiding together in a small closet, ointment on hilariously fake-looking wounds, etc.; they're killing the vibe of what could be a strong plot.

Oh well...

Episode 4:

Oh look! A clueless straight girl comes between our MC! That's never been done before! :)

Too much silly, not-believable cluelessness from Qin Xiao. One minute he's rubbing bellies, the next he's pretending not to get why a certain someone is pouty/jealous. Also too much fluffiness being interjected, along with the gauzy filter over select interior scenes to evoke teddy bear fee-fees.

I'm with you. Just watched it for the fourth time a few days ago and was profoundly moved once again. I love rewatching…
Thanks for your comment, as a reminder it's about time to watch this glorious film for the fifth time. :)

For BL, I'd recommend I Told Sunset About You, I Promised You the Moon, Bad Buddy, Semantic Error, Utsukushii…
Seems to me they are very clearly genres, standing entirely on their own, distinct from any other. However, I won't put time into arguing about it.

No, I meant why aren't those two genres among your recommendation categories above?

I really hate this time of the year because it's like a 4 month period of leaving the old year and entering the…
Why is that? Do Korean artists tend to kill themselves more frequently during these four months? Off the top of my head I think of Kim Jonghyun of SHINee on December 17, 2017 and Lee Sunkyun on December 27, 2023, but I can think of several others who checked out in Spring and Summer.

"If it's suicide (Actually they don't said it is suicide they just said it is not murder) why are they still investigating.…
So what does "your vulgar nature" refer to?

There is no "girlfriend/fiance." Get real. Are you sure you don't work for his agency?

In your scenario, his family and friends would have known what was happening for a long time. How would he be isolated and alone in this? And then he just decides to kill himself one day, which solves nothing, especially if he had this imaginary fiancee waiting to marry him.

Nope...there's more to it than that. Not that it will ever be made public, because Korean society values nothing more than "saving face" regarding something it deems shameful. All this useless shame needs to be done away with. Half of Korea is still in the 19th century regarding several major issues.

It's not that simple. Stalkers are everywhere, not just in Korea.

A harsh light needs to be shown on several other aspects of Korean society that so frequently lead to tragedies like this. If I'm reading between the lines of this and several other news reports correctly, the "secret" this horrible person was threatening to expose concerning his "vulgar nature," shouldn't have to be a career-ending secret in the first place, not in a civilized country in 2024.

Along with that, you have the Korean phobia of mental health issues, which still have a powerful stigma attached to them. Shame is far too pervasive a concern in Korean society. This talented, still-young man felt he had nowhere to turn, no one to share this with, and no authority to go to for help without destroying his life, so he left

Heartbreaking, and so unnecessary.

Yeah, those horrible Westerners are responsible for every negative thing in the entire world. Before Christian missionaries came, they loved their gay folks. Got it.

"Weak liver." lol Yeah, weak from her heavy drinking. Her father died of alcohol-induced cirrhosis of the liver also. His liver was weak because he made it that way.

I've done my research, Noface. Her liver was in such bad shape the head doctor who did the autopsy said there is no way she was not having severe pain and other symptoms, and for quite some time. Someone who continues chugging booze after they know they are sick from it is, yes, passively killing themselves.

Korea has the highest rate of alcoholism and alcohol-related deaths among all developed countries, just as they are #1 by far in suicides.

Most importantly, I just noticed I don't care what you think of my list.

To claim this as a BL or gay romance, you have to really work to see and imagine things that are not presented…
ok that's fine. :D

Pls remove Park Boram from the list. She didn't take her own life, she died from alcohol poisoning.
No.
She already had severe cirrhosis of the liver, showing extreme scarring, lesions, and fatty buildup, which indicates she had been drinking heavily for years. She drank herself to death. That is passive suicide in my book.
This is my list so I decide who's on it.

" but the characters simply do not get enough time to pursue those feelings."

You mean the production ran out of money and cut the film short, which prevented the characters from getting together? lol If the writer/director wanted them together in the film, they would have included that. Them getting together was deliberately not shown. Nobody ran out of time. :) That's why it's a censored BL.
