I suppose the whole screenplay was written in less than a day. With this cast and the interesting theme of cultural exchange between Japan and Korea, much much better works could be done
I think you judged a bit too quickly. Let me tell you that there are two slapping scenes, one by the mother and…
Thanks! Actually a while back, I had the same experience with another work of this actress, Mizukawa Asami: Yume wo Kanaeru Zo (2008) Again, she has this yelling character, but 10 times worse than this series! So I was about to drop the series just because I couldn't bear her voice and character, but the story had some appeal, so I kept watching and at the end, I was really happy because the content was really good in my opinion. It seems to me that this kind of female character was popular among the Japanese audience in those years (2005, 2010, ...) and this great actress was given lots of such roles!

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, a part of it is cultural, but more important is to see the bigger picture. When it comes to family life, the thing is that family members live together days and nights, not just in the moments that they are angry. And here the mom is short-tempered, yelling, ... so not letting others talk and express themselves properly in those angry moments. This is not good to be sure, but it's just temporary. For the mother, it really matters how others feel and think and whether they are happy or not. So after she cools down, she thinks about things and consider others' feelings seriously. So despite her short-temperedness, she is really attentive and understanding, such that others don't feel that their feelings, opinions, wishes, ... are worthless. And to me, this is the most important thing.

My point wasn't that parents should yell at their children and yelling makes great results. In any case, it's up to us to drop a drama if it's annoying or for any other reason. Best of luck!
After watching the first episode I almost dropped it because of the mother. She annoyed me to no end with her…
I think you judged a bit too quickly. Let me tell you that there are two slapping scenes, one by the mother and one by the father. As a victim of physical abuse, I hate it, but at the same time, I believe this yelling and ... stuff is more cultural than showing her problematic personality. In fact, she is really nice and understanding, kind of the centre of this close-knit family! There are things that might not be ideal, but they don't mean really bad things. So overall, I can see in this family is love, love, and love!
Love this kind of J-drama <3. Btw, yes it is legal to fire someone because they're pregnant. Dunno how about…
Thanks for all the information, but a question: the document clearly states that it's illegal to fire a woman because she is pregnant. I'm not sure, but maybe the translation of the drama isn't accurate. Possibly the manager told her that now because it's dangerous for you to work in this condition, I can't let you be here, that I can't take responsibility if something happens, and things like this. kind of friendly.
Yeah, I still don't like the ex. She apologized for calling Kotaro a burden bc she thought she was wrong, which…
I understand your point, but here is Japan, so it's natural for people to 'meddle' in their friends' lives. I mean it's much more accepted than what many of us imagine. Supposedly because it's out of good intention and people are supposed to help each other, they use 'it's none of your business' not that much. As for the father, I totally agree with you, but again, it's very Japanese, giving chances to people to redo their wrongs, maybe too much chance.
Just as a sidenote: I didn't like the series:)
