Hi faarian, I didn't like how they kinda switched genres (from romance to silly comedy) in the last minutes; had…
Hi! As far as I can see, there was no switch: from the beginning, the movie is a mix of serious emotional romantic story and a silly and funny one (I've seen this in some other J-doramas and movies). So I can say that I laughed like a crazy a couple of times during the movie and before that final scene. But maybe that wasn't the best finish, I don't know, just that I don't think there was a switch. By the way, you've seen Nigeru, haven't you? The male lead actor and his character is the same, also the dorama is a mix of serious emotional romantic story and a silly and funny one. So, many similarities!
I watched it because I loved Renbutsu Misako in From Me to You (Kimi ni Todok), and I think she does a good job here as well, but I didn't like the story. If such a story really happens, it just means that things are really messed up: That the girl's family has no heart, leaving her with a baby like that; also the father of Ayaka is a total trash who can't take any responsibility for his own child and her mother; and the friendship between 4 girls is so fake that they keep lying to each other about everything. Even the mother isn't rational, keep lying to her daughter and keep things secret from her even when she's an adult ... I just feel for Ayaka (my beloved Renbutsu Misako), she is the big victim. Anyway, my problem with the series is that it wants to show that at the end, everything is fine and everyone involved starts to have a decent life Impossible! All the people who left a young mother and her little baby for so long are going to suffer for years. After all, a mother died so soon because of all those years of hardship and her daughter has gone through a lot and grown up so lonely. This can't be resolved by a bit of crying and shame.
Best not to spend too much time hating something. Probably find something else you like more and think about that…
Thanks for the advice but I'd like to spend time thinking about both things I love and I hate, this way I know the world, as well as myself better:) And after all, I'm a philosophy student, so kind of compelled to think about everything:)
My different view: The director attempts hard to reveal deep and profound truths about life and relationships, but unfortunately he himself has no idea about that. The movie shows around 87 characters, 32 relationships, 23 other stories (bullying, boxing championship, ...) and none of them makes any sense. Maybe the funniest was that boxer who is going to become the world champions, but fell in love with a girl who never met. The biggest achievement of the movie is maybe making great actors look like amateurs. It's not obvious what kind of characters they should play in the first place. I'm just jealous of the director: how exactly he could get the budget to hire these famous actors and make the movie?
I don't like its message. That girl who was left by her father has serious problems. She is full of anger. But the movie's message for her and other people like her is that just keep going. This just means that she'll be full of anger for the rest of her life. And at some point, it might change to something really harmful and dangerous: addiction, suicide, child abuse, ...

But I don't get what your problem with the ending, can you explain a bit?

Here I introduced my top 9 j-high school dramas, so maybe useful for newcomers:
