I can agree with most of this but he shouldn't have outed Neungdiao in the process. His action was not just self-defense.…
they're hormonal teenage boys acting on impulse and their feelings for each other, Ben clearly wasn't thinking of every single possible outcome- he was in the moment. I'm not holding that against him. sure, I agree that he could've handled the situation better but we as viewers can easily come to that conclusion. ben was in the hot seat, he had his father yelling at him scared to lose his scholarship and his respect. he made a split second decision. though it wasn't right, I have vastly more empathy for him than I do for neung. it was clear during the scene that Ben was terrified, and made the decision out of fear. they were *both* victims of a homophobic attack but neung will be fine, he has a support system. ben's clearly from an abusive home.
I love Ben from the beginning, but he was definitely a jerk and I don't get why so many people are defending what…
Neung asked pond not to tell anyone about ben too. they were both closeted. I don't know why you're placing all the blame on ben when it seemed they were both fine with keeping whatever was between them to themselves for the time being.
I'm really liking pond's performance as palm in this show far, he shows so much vulnerability and sensitivity while still being steadfast with his beliefs and in his loyalty to neung (even though I don't think he deserves it at this point in the show.) I wish we got some more scenes of Palm giving neung the cold shoulder bc what neung said to him in the previous episode was really nasty. I wanted more than a simple apology as well, neung should've had to do some groveling. the scene on the rooftop was shot really well however and the kiss was done beautifully so kudos to the director and the actors.
I also don't like Neung's framing of Ben as an 'asshole.' Neung has some good qualities and he's obviously had his hardships, but he's such an unlikeable character. He and Ben's situations are like night and day. No one should be forced to come out before they're ready, especially in such a hostile and aggressive environment. Ben does not have Neung's support system or his financial advantages so im sure the thought of jeopardizing that was quite paralyzing to ben. I get that neung was hurt, but after seeing how his father acted with him in the principal's office, he should also understand that Ben could've been in real danger if he outed himself then and there. I also don't like how some people are saying 'well, if he wasn't ready to come out he shouldn't have kissed him.' discovering your sexuality is very personal and isn't always easy. ben has every right to explore that in an effort to figure out who he is. accepting yourself is very different than being accepted by others. I got the impression that Ben had come to terms and accepted his sexuality, but clearly isn't comfortable with coming out to his homophobic, probably abusive, father. Neung wasn't out either, they were both still in the process of coming to terms with their feelings for each other
I just want to say Fluke mother fucking Pusit is carrying this show. I always saw the vision! I knew he had it in him way back during the Shipper days! Everyone was throwing tomatoes but I knew he and First had something special and look at them now.
I love how inclusive and real this show is like i'm actually kinda speechless at how excellent it does with tackling the more taboo concepts and topics in such a fun and humorous way. The soundtrack is really good, as well as the directing. I watched that final scene with Fluke and Thor like three times. Their chemistry and acting was everything it actually felt real. academy award. if they don't get their own BL in 2024 I'm burning down the GMM building.
i feel like the only thing the tumour added to the story was him beating up the bullies more aggressively and…
they could've had her end up at the doctor a number of different ways though, even a simple pregnancy scare would've done the trick. I was just expecting the father to be like the father of one of the main characters the way they kept building it up and then they make it some random Kpop star ðŸ˜
YES boy did not BLINK. Jaebeom was like the bisexual math is mathing. I honestly wonder if a gay love triangle was the original plan and then they kinda got cold feet bc storyline wise it makes way more sense. why was osung obsessively jealous when it came to jaebeom? why did they have all those solo polaroids? it couldve been osung in love with jaebeom who's in love with wonseok who's cheating on him with sejin. the drama. the mess. that's what I wanted.
Perth only gets 5 mins of screen time and episode but he eats them up! he's such a good natural actor I need more of his and ben's dynamic asap. I like that he's not an antagonist (at least as of now) it allows us to actually get attached to his character. I do feel like his dad will try to manipulate him against neung eventually though.
anyone else surprised osung didn't turn out gay and in love with jaebum? he was giving sexually repressed gay twink this entire show bc why was he mad anytime jaebum so much as said hi to another person?
also the guy who played junggyeong was giving exo kai in some scenes and it interfered with my ability to hate him as much as I should've
my final thoughts:the stuff i liked:- the first non-BL OTT platform kdrama which openly showed us a kiss scene…
I thought osung was going to be in love with jaebum too 😠it would've made the jealousy and possessiveness osung had for him make sense. it also would've made sense plot wise, he killed wonseok bc he and jaebum were dating and he was jealous. then to cover it up / further distance them he plants false memories of wonseok being the one to push him from the building. I literally got whiplash when he said he liked Jihyun bc osung was giving evil twink this entire show
(also is your screen name a Taylor reference? love it)
for the most part I enjoyed this and it was really good for a while, but the ending was terrible and SO rushed. so many unnecessary plot points throughout the show too (ajung pregnant for like no reason? literally so unserious and irrelevant 😠added almost nothing to the plot). why did sooheon have a tumor? what was the reason? its only relevance was to cripple him when fighting people that he vastly outmatched. there wasn't even a overarching theme of living life to the fullest or enjoying the time you have with loved ones while you can, it was literally irrelevant to the plot. the entire show would barely change if he wasn't sick.
I also felt like jaebum's storyline jumped the gun too. they did not need him to have dissociative identity disorder. jaebum being wonseoks murderer bc osung gaslit him into believing he tried to kill him while he didn't have any memory of it was enough motive. I do think they could've written it better bc I was under the assumption that osung only revealed wonseok as his "murderer" way after he died, but maybe I missed something timeline wise. I also wish they dropped more hints of jaebum displaying DID bc it did kinda feel like it was shoehorned in there. it wouldve been fun if we could go back and rewatch and see clear instances of him being is other self.
finally, osung's ending was beyond stupid. why did the entire school need to lie for sooheon? it was self defense. that girl sending the message that sooheon was the hero who attacked her rapist was so dumb bc now he can be charged 😠I wish osung actually got punished he deserved to be ostracized and alienated by everyone around him. the despair of osung losing his future and that driving him to suicide would've been justice.
now all that being said, I did enjoy the show and I was entertained. They get points for having three LGBTQ characters (yes im counting jaebum he did not question anything and fully accepted when osung said he was dating wonseok lol ((another weird plot point bc how did that really effect anything story wise?)) and having the only onscreen kiss during the entire show be between two boys, it felt like a statement.
none of his actions are excusable but they do make sense. all he's ever known at home is Abuse and neglect. he…
I get you. I think being adopted myself I’m a little more sympathetic to his situation. I can identify with the issues of abuse that run in the foster care and adoption systems; not everyone should be a parent. That however doesn’t excuse any of his actions or his behavior he absolutely belongs in jail. I think that just shows that the writers did a really good job with his character :)
Oh Bum Seok is really getting on my nerves and I don’t really pity him despite his past trauma. He’s the one…
none of his actions are excusable but they do make sense. all he's ever known at home is Abuse and neglect. he feels like he has no worth and soo ho started to show him genuine love and friendship. when he felt that slipping away (coupled with the continued abuse he receives at home) he snapped. he turned all his pent up rage and frustration outward onto soo ho, the current object of his affection. I love that he's such a complex character.
No worries. I'm SO glad I'm not the only one picking up on that! 😄  I don't necessarily make every story…
the way I went from 'oh Shi Eun has some issues' to being like 'he's the sweetest boy on earth I will die for him' Is so insane lmfao. he just needed someone to show him love that he clearly wasn't getting at home, and soo ho just happened to be that person. not to be gay but the way they looked at each other was so full of trust and tenderness. they had better chemistry than I've seen between leads in most mainstream k dramas.
Beom seok was obviously infatuated with soo ho as well considering how they showed him constantly insta stalking him, and its clear that things only turned sour after he thought he was into young yi. his hurt and coming to grips with his feelings for soo ho manifested as anger and resentment, whereas Shi Eun's feelings developed in a much more protective way. when beom seok and Shi Eun had their final fight and beom seok essentially said "you know how I feel cause you feel the same" or whatever in regards to soo ho, that's kinda what confirmed it for me. they were both in love with him but sadly the abuse beom seok received at home turned him into a monster. I loved that they showed how most monsters aren't born they're created. beom seok was failed but that's no excuse for his actions.
im hoping they explore their relationship dynamics further in the second season, even If its just subtextual. I really enjoyed the show from its themes of internalized homophobia, domestic abuse, systemic bullying, and toxic masculinity
not to spread the gay agenda lol but IMO both shi eun and beom seok had crushes on soo ho. i just feel like the subtext was pretty clear in alluding to that the entire show, especially with Shi Eun and beom seok's final scene together. its interesting to see how the toxic masculinity and abuse within their respective environments (in school and at home) allowed their feelings to manifest in different ways. as much as this is a cautionary tale about bullying and how monsters are created or enabled, its also a coming of age story about three teenage boys. im eagerly awaiting season 2 I hope we don't have to wait too long. every actor was amazing.
I'm really impressed by this show so far, possibly for some of the same reasons it's receiving criticism from…
yes golf is absolutely a master in gaslighting and manipulating and I was really hoping they'd expand on all of his (many) issues more. I love flawed characters and the fact that this almost seemed like a horror movie disguised as a BL was so appealing to me. sadly I think theyve thrown all the craziness that made Golf so fun to watch out the window. were halfway through now im still holding out hope that something will surprise me.
So I'm actually kinda angry. Golf lying to Art was by far the most interesting part of the story and they simply glossed over it. Golf bludgeoning Art over the head with a guitar is not a "mistake" it's a criminal act. Maybe if Art was just as antagonizing to Golf before he lost his memories as Golf was then maybe the talk of past mistakes would make sense, but Art did absolutely nothing wrong? The fact that Sis tried to compare it to her decades long abusive relationship is so hilarious. She really gave Art the worst advice ever I wanted to scream.
Even suspending disbelief they handled Golf's "apology" in such a lazy way. They could've acknowledged his anger and mental issues when explaining the truth to Art, while he spends the rest of the show trying to earn Art's forgiveness while on the run to the bunker. They could've really used the tension and chemistry Best and Art have together to show a really raw, flawed, angsty romance but they chose the easy, fluffy way out. Art forgiving Golf quickly wouldn't even be out of character, they could've done it in a way that showed how although he's scared of trusting Golf, he's more scared of being alone once the world ends. The writing just wasn't there. So much wasted potential.
Even though I was thoroughly disappointed in this episode I am still enjoying the performances of everyone and the darker storyline. give me more of the gay cannibals!
just blew through the first 3 episodes and i'm loving it so far. I'm a sucker for dark storylines and characters. golf is obsessive, narcissistic, violent, and possessive and I love him. he definitely seems to have some type of personality disorder such as bipolar or bpd considering his manic behavior and how obsessive and attached he gets with people in such a short amount of time. I hope they touch on that more.
golf's darkness contrasted with art's innocence is so good and they're playing off each other so well. obsessed with how their entire relationship is based on a lie and golf is gaslighting art into Stockholm syndrome. I can see this story playing out a couple different ways and im excited to see which way it ends up going. also love how each episode is named after a song by a pop girl yas Aam better stan
this show has such a crazy premise but its actually so cute? I literally think I drool when Great is on screen. that being said you will never get me to sympathize with the gaslighting and manipulation of women, idc how hot you are! need that to stop immediately. but I do enjoy their back and forth.
net and James also super adorable as well I need bed friend asap. their chemistry is so good despite the limited screen time I bet they'll do wonders with a full fledged storyline
nawt some of the people here thinking YJ and SH were justified in their little revenge plan y'all need to enroll in an ethics class. revenge and justice are not the same thing. I will say honestly the only person I feel like they would've been justified in killing is mad dog as he was the architect of everything. Everyone else directly involved deserved life in prison. The boys went through something horrific and traumatic but that will never justify killing innocent people.
That being said I enjoyed the show a lot and feel really bad for SJ. he was gaslit his entire life, was emotionally abused and neglected, and lost basically his entire family.
I also would've enjoyed more extensive backstory on SH masterminding everything, and YJ and Charles being evil boyfriends together. they were cute im sorry! that whole dynamic is so interesting and I wish they would've explored it a little more.
