Well, aren't you a delicate soul. Do you enjoy murder? Do you ever watch movies about murder? Use a brain cell…
you asked for links and they provided many and you're still on your soapbox about how rape should be tolerated in every single story regardless of intent. no one is censoring anything you drama queen, were having a discussion about how using rape in this specific way is problematic.

lolita is a book literally written by a pedophile which romanticizes pedophilia. no ones saying we should censor it? but we can have discussions about how its rhetoric can be harmful to girls in society. its the same with this story. fashion is art and yet balenciaga rightfully got backlash for depicting children in fetish wear. do you think that was okay because its 'art'? just because one person had a 'vision' and created something controversial does not mean we as a society have to blindy accept it. sometimes things are just for shock value or done in bad faith. art is made to be consumed and critiqued, and if some people believe that this story is fetishizing or romanticizing rape they are well within their rights to think that. you don't have to agree, but your aggressive and instigative responses are unnecessary and ridiculous. calling some a rapist just bc they don't agree with you? you're clearly not mature enough to handle this conversation I won't be responding again.

thought it would've been pretty clear that I was speaking generally about the harms of rape culture (you can find scholarly peer reviewed articles about rape culture in media and how it influences reality with a simple google search, but I don't think you actually care about that.) as BL is still a growing niche genre. You're being dense on purpose. toxic relationships and domestic abuse are very important stories to show, within print and onscreen- but they should never be romanticized. no one's freedom of speech is being taken away. love syndrome I, II, and III are all published. that doesn't mean the public has to support a television adaptation. it got backlash because its a fucked up story without depth or purpose.

fiction absolutely effects the real world. John Lennon was literally murdered because of a book. schools are trying to ban books and like to kill a mockingbird because it might be too 'uncomfortable' or 'divisive.'

BL is a genre heavily marketed towards teens and girls. when creating media that will be consumed by that demographic, yes there is a responsibility to not impress on them the idea that falling in love with someone who rapes you should ever be an option. we're not even talking about blurred lines or light dubcon. this is a story where one person repeatedly rapes, beats, and emotionally blackmails the person they're supposedly in 'love' with. just because its fiction doesn't mean it cant be a terrible story or that its free of criticism. rape should never be the foundation of a *love* story. end of discussion. if they want to write a story about a victim falling in love with their rapist fine, but don't frame it as a romance. it's not just FAKE because there are many victims who stay in relationships with their abusers. it's Stockholm syndrome. its a cycle of abuse believing that they're not strong or worthy enough to leave. stories like this invalidate that abuse and trauma and frames it as something that can exist within an equal loving relationship, which is unequivocally false.

you think bc its fiction and its 'not real' means it has no effect on the real world. but real people wrote it, real people would've acted in it, and real people would've been watching it. those people could all be victims of abuse. or know someone who is a victim , or be the abusers themselves and when the line of thinking 'oh maybe this is okay because it turned into love' creeps into the mind that's when it becomes a serious problem.

but you probably don't care about any of that so by all means enjoy defending shows that promote rape culture and revenge porn as romance. these are totally not real issues or things we should be concerned about as a society.

I liked this one from the beginning but eps 3 and 4 really surprised me. eddy is such a fun no nonsense character and the chemistry between the two actors is amazing. the last scene in ep 4 was executed so well from the acting to the cinematography I kinda couldn't believe it. I love the little cat mouse dynamic they have with Ian always on the run and eddy chasing after him, I hope they keep it up

plot is basically non existent but the chemistry between the leads is much better than a lot of other k bls, it's definitely what keeps me watching. I can actually feel the attraction and sexual tension between them and their interactions with each other so kudos to the actors. k bls are usually so short and written with such surface level characterization most of the time I don't even blame the actors for not having much chemistry with each other. again, I wish the show was written better- chef basically did a complete 180 on his no alcohol ban after one drink without any explanation lmfao.

also the guy who plays ji yu's friend is so cute. love the manic energy he brings to his scenes as short as they are. I saw he also has a minor role In a shoulder to cry on, I'd love to see him star in his own BL in the future

there is a difference between watching a show involving murder, and whatever rape porn fetish this is are you being serious? horror is my favorite genre and Hannibal is my favorite TV show. does that mean I condone serial killers and cannibalism? absolutely not. most shows / movies involving serial killers aren't trying to romanticize them, and the ones that do are problematic in themselves.

you're up and down this thread defending a show that's never coming out *because* its so problematic and fucked up. rape should never be romanticized and used as a plot device to form a romantic relationship. Yes its fiction but there are real victims of rape and abuse out there and reducing their pain to a trope like this is very harmful. So many victims of domestic abuse already aren't believed when they try to ask for help. "how could he rape you you're married?" or "he's seems like such a sweet guy he could never hurt you!" these are things real human beings think and Stories like this can reinforce that idea.

if this was a story made with the intent to shine a light on how abusive relationships like this exist in an effort to educate we'd be having a different conversation. but its not. its fetishist and disgusting.

fiction and free speech are one thing but when they can have actual harmful repercussions in the real world it's a different story.

It's interesting to me the people who scream at others "don't watch if you can't handle it!" "leave if you don't…
you're absolutely right and there are some commenters here who cant seem to understand the difference between rape being a neccessary part of a storyline and whatever gross rape porn fantasy fetish this is. framing is everything and if this story was framed as horror or a thriller it'd be one thing, but its not. its romanticizing rape and torture and trying to pass it off as a romance.

I have no idea what the hell is going on in this show but the leads are so cute and the hint of any type of mystery is enough to keep me coming back, I guess I'm easy like that lmfao. everything is pointing to din being mr lue so I want to play contrarian and hope that it's some kind of elaborate fake out. I also think I might literally go insane if someone doesn't acknowledge the gloves. And I know this is BL land, but if I were ken and had multiple people trying to kill me I would be a little wary of mysterious sexy glove man that is stalking me from country to country.

Affection doesn't always mean gay, I mean the chemistry of the actors are insane ...but I guess we'll have to…
Thank you for the in depth reply! Yeah people on both sides can be very extreme, but what’s the harm in a little gay? Like you said there are countless stories with unnecessary straight relationships shoehorned in. I do remember seeing something about the “first Y” post, and I can definitely see why they might’ve deleted to not anger BL fans if it is on the more subtle side.

I’m totally fine with it being ambiguous too, just please god no body swaps it’s the worst trope of all time 😭

I think its so funny that everyone involved insists this isn't BL when the characters are interacting like that LOL. like they deadass have better romantic chemistry than half of the bls airing right now. im gonna be mad if they make dome and khatha brothers bc I like the ambiguous vibe their relationship has right now. I'm shipping them idc that sign can't stop me because I can't read!

right like male characters can have brotherly affection. tian and yang from to sir with love were very affectionate with each other and had amazing chemistry but that chemistry didn't read as romantic. THIS however does lmao

Girl that's literally the real world😭
you're not entirely wrong, but none of the abuse Uea is going through is romanticized. The abusive behavior is clearly being framed in a negative way

Title Bed Friend
How much trauma is Uea supposed to take without him doing anything about it? I understand that he doesn't tell…
I don't think there's anything wrong with darker / heavier storylines, not every love story needs to be super fluffy there are plenty of those out there. Diverse storylines should always be encouraged. I gravitate towards angstier stories so I'm definitely enjoying this from that aspect. This is clearly a hurt / comfort story where King is going to help Uea heal from the immense trauma he's endured. We're only at episode 3, and I assume the next episode will be the climax of all of Uea's abuse and a turning point for him (as there's only 8 eps and next week is the halfway point.)

Do I think it could be written better? absolutely- but many of us do go through life with trauma and we compartmentalize it just to make it through each day. I don't think it's that unrealistic for Uea to do the same. It also doesn't feel like a mame story in the sense where she usually just adds in traumatic or abusive storylines as more for shock value than a narrative device (I always think about how there's a genuinely good story in Tharntype if only it was handled by a more competent writer.) They keep emphasizing how Uea's trauma largely effects his actions. I'm actually really glad you pointed out how you think he's probably acting out of a self conscious desire to get with someone he thinks will abuse him, as it's very common for victims of abuse to "accept the love they think they deserve" so to speak. He literally told King himself that he only chose to keep sleeping with him because he thinks it'll fuck up his life even more. King is subverting that bc we as an audience know that he is clearly a loving, safe character.

I have my own issues with the show (editing, pacing) but I'm not holding it against them too harshly bc I'm pretty sure they had to reshoot a huge chunk of the show due to actors dropping out. I also like how they keep emphasizing the importance of safe sex, getting tested, and consent. As far as domundi shows go, this is worlds apart from the disaster of red flags and toxic tropes that cutie pie was.

And.. Episode 7 thoughts: featuring Narcissist Nueng and Pushover Palm.References: https://kisskh.at/715897-never-let-me-go#comment-12223333and…
I am enjoying the show for what it is, but I definitely agree with all of this. neung is a terrible character there's very little to like about him. I made a post a few weeks back about how terrible the outing scene between neung and ben was and got some pushback. I hated how he framed ben as an asshole when their situations are so drastically different. neung is a character that could work well and could have very interesting development, but we'd need drastically better writing. they should've had palm loathe neung from the beginning and slowly warm up to him through their time together. that dynamic would've made sense. when he was talking about buying the beach just so he could essentially have it for himself so unabashedly right in front of Palm who's had to work for everything in his life was appalling.

I am placing most of the blame on the writers though however, because when phuwin had his English scenes and was able to smile and seem like an actual human being, he came off as very charming and likable. it's like he was playing an entirely different character. I wish we got that version of neung but phuwin seems to always be typecasted in bratty, unlikable roles.

Is the actor playing Palm not a good actor? just started ep7 and first i was under impression that maybe this…
I actually really like what he's bringing to the role, he has a vulnerability and a sensitivity in his demeanor that I wouldn't associate with someone who looks like he does. the writing for his character however is severely lacking, he has no personality- his entire purpose is to serve neung. there's only so much you can do as an actor when your character is as one dimensional as that. His character in his other show with phuwin was written that way as well, one dimensional with no real personality.

I agree with many of your points especially regarding the importance of safe sex and sexual education within minors.…
I'm not talking about adults. to me, it sounded like he wanted to normalize seeing minors in sex scenes from his comment. he was specifically talking about high schoolers and minors at the beginning, that's what I'm referring to.

Can't high schoolers have sex? I bet the underage ones in this BL will do nothing except a peck on the lips like…
I agree with many of your points especially regarding the importance of safe sex and sexual education within minors. If you’re going to cast minors in this type of show i’d like it to be for a reason. The writers and the directors have a responsibility to depict this type of relationship in an informative way-whatever their dynamic may be- and not just for shock value.

It does however sound like you don’t see a problem with, or want to normalize minors acting in sex scenes on camera (and please correct me if I’m wrong) which would be very dangerous imo. The entertainment industry is very abusive and filled with predators. there would just be no way to make sure that these children are not coerced or forced into something they would either regret in the moment or later on. There are so many horror stories with child actors dealing with emotional and sexual traumas in Hollywood. I don’t see a problem with a kiss, but anything further would be really exploitative and irresponsible.

I do agree with you in that there is nothing inherently predatory about watching shows featuring minors, but there is no reason to need a visual depiction of them engaging in a sex scene. Implying it would be more than enough. Again, if this isn’t what you meant and I just read your post wrong please let me know!

Nope. Nuengdiao has all the right to be mad and call Ben whatever he want to call him. He was minding his own…
I'm not saying that Ben is free of blame, I just didn't like the number of comments I read judging Ben without any nuance regarding his situation. Sure, neung has every right to feel how he does about Ben, I'm not even saying he's wrong to feel that way, I just don't like how the show framed it lol. Neung is very selfish and bratty, and i'm sure he will grow as a character but his actions this entire episode (especially to palm) just turned me off of him a little. Neither of them should really be blamed IMO as they're teenagers who've become the victims of a homophobic attack. Ben reacted out of fear and while he was absolutely in the wrong, I can understand and emphasize with his situation much more than Neung's. He's bullied at school which is awful, but his parents own it he could say something and have every single one of those students expelled. He's also the heir to a multi million dollar empire he could drop out and be fine. We as an audience know neung's mother adores him, whereas from the scene in the principals office, Ben is clearly from an abusive home. he and ben are in drastically different positions socially and financially. I'm not trying to minimize what happened to neung and how horrible his outing is too, but as someone who is aware of the vast inequality of wealth and power neung wields versus someone like Ben, I can't help but focus on it.
