Only japan can make such a stupid drama. This is so dumb it's the reason it is SO touching, it's naïve and honest to the fullest. ♥
The start is bad, you must get over the first two eps but after that ... I cried as much as I cried when I watched Densha Otoko (reason why I like jdrama). Not the tearjerking kind of show, more of a feel good/life lessons/bonding with someone/what's a family kind of show.
In the end it's heartwarming like everybody else said, highly recommended. (^_^)
Not "baaaaaad" but it's just a tearjerking show without enough medical part (the best moments of the drama) and too much of an uninteresting story (that doesn't make much sense). :/
Heavy narrative (must pause and rewind sometimes to be sure to fully understand what's going on), extremely serious drama ... yep, THIS is why I watch kdrama. (^_^)
But something's bothering me: the bad guy is a fanatical SOB. Ok, I get that. But ... in real life, won't someone like him be a patriot, a hero ? Because the speech he gives at the end of ep 2 ... FFS, he's so right I don't understand WHY he's wrong. (°o°)
... he's dead. It's the first movie that was directed by him, he also directed half of the second movie before dying (his son finished it). ;) (wikipedia says "ONE scene" ... that's strange, at the time it was said half the movie ... maybe he was on set for half the movie but only personally directed one scene ? )
Battle Royale was a lot of fun, but the second is a big pile of sh*t mostly because of the death of Fukasaku senior. The son don't have a bit of talent (can you blame him ? His father is above the rest, too much of a legacy), you can't really blame him or accusing him of ruining an unfinished cursed movie. Plus the movie was more or less rewrote, and you can clearly see it as the movie is going in one direction but ends with a stupid "AK47, the weapon of "resistant"" ... a complete mess, nothing good could have come out of this.
Let's not talk about the manga, it's not even worth using as toilet paper: a piss poor porn story full of fluids (piss, tears, sperm). My librarian told me at the time "stop buying these, you're hurting yourself" (he was a fan of the first movie too, like almost every fan of Japanese culture at the time).
"Are you partial to the Battle Royale series?"
What do you think ? XD
Battle Royale is a movie heavy on the story. It's talking about the wall between teens and adults, the future asked of teens, the respect asked for the adults ... these themes are always a hot topic. You can watch the movie today and still being hit by the message.
Plus there's the music, full of violence, of despair, of rage ... years after I can still remember the PV. I converted some friends of mine to japanese culture with this movie. Just like Ghost in the Shell (the first animated movie) there was a before and an after, movies like these two weren't seen anywhere else AND it was hard to watch them. They are product of an era (the spirit of the Showa era), it's hard to make new movies as impactful as these twos and I clearly don't want a stupid american remake.
Too bad I can't read the novel, it wasn't translated in french and I'm not fluent enough to read it in english. :/
The perfect way to make a drama bout teens, the wall between adults/teens (so much GTO vibes ...), a touch of internet (kinda goofy, not paternalistic but a little awkward in the end), friendship, growing up, family ...
Nah, it's a really rich drama with a touching ending. Rating is low but quality is high. ♥
Boring and lazy as f*ck, too long for its own good and too much violins to make it look like it's sad.
Using such a talented actress like Ra Mi ran for something so dull ... I'll rewatch Avengers Social Club instead, a better use of my (and anybody) time. (u_u)
PS: the dog trope => the laziest and oldest trope of the narrative history. It's not touching anymore, it's lazy and a proof the writer doesn't have anything to tell and doesn't know how to be touching, so he's using the cheap way. And that, that's unforgivable. (<_<)
The worst part began, the braindead romance is everywhere, full speed dilution, insufferable stupidity at all time ... yeah, male lead is ruining the show and female is starting to be just as excruciating.
It's too bad that 95% of the show is excellent and the last 5% are dumb beyond reason because the said 5% of the show (romance between male and female lead) is on screen 50% of the time now ...
I like the show, every character (except male lead) is perfect, touching, funny with interesting story and romance, but the male lead is so freaking retard the romance/trinagle doesn't make any sense. Like ... he's treating the female lead like a dog because he loves her. She's nice to the group at work so he's screaming at her "WHY ARE YOU NICE ? GO ON THE ROOF AND GET SOME FRESH AIR ! " ... in any other drama this scene would have been a power harassment scene, and I'm not even talking about the extortion, this scene made him a dickhead for life ...
We just have to wait for the bad middle part of the show (all about the romance) to end, after that it will be about the accident/conspiracy and that going to be really interesting. (^_^)
ps: Shim Ji Ho is so much better than seol jung hwan ... well, everybody is better than seol jung hwan in this show (especially Jung Yoo Min, best actress on set), but to be fair his character is messed up he can't do much. :/
After ep 4 (7-8) I'm gonna put this one on hold: the rhythm is a complete catastrophe. Nothing for the whole then a cliff". Nope, that's bad narrative, you can't suffer a week long wait to follow a story with this flow. There won't be any problems with all the ep available, it'll help appreciate the show, no reason to waste a probable good story because of a terrible progress.
Also: don't put a woman in a show if don't want her to be an actual part of the story. Park eun bin character is so useless it's insulting for the actress. She's just here to fill the quota and the writer don't put any effort in her character because of that ... not cool, not cool at all. (<_<)
no offense to any fans of this kdrama, but The Heirs was a complete shit show. I absolutely hated how weak and…
"I absolutely hated how weak and damsel-in-distress the female lead was"
The starting point of every romance in kdrama. :/ I don't understand why and how so many people like that ... that's something that needs to be in an article. :p
Won't watch, already (almost) none of my favorites are in there AND that it's full of stupid/sexist romance. :(
My favorite for the decade: -Punch (by far, untouchable) -The Virus (best bio thriller there is, by far too) -eun joo's room (proof a korean romance can be good and not sexist) -President (Ha Hee Ra => ♥♥♥♥♥, best performance/woman character of the decade, period) -Bravo my Life (Do ji Won ... she's such a good actress ...) -Unkind Women (female lead everywhere, rock solid female character everywhere, wondrous actresses everywhere (Do Ji Won, Chae Shi Ra, Seo Yi Sook ... and more), over underrated kdrama -The Running Mates (terribly unbalanced but when it's good it's above the best korean movies) -Avengers Social Club (Ra Mi Ran and Lee Yo Won ... such talented actresses ♥ ) -Sketch (a total mess for the writing, a piece of art for the acting) -Ghost (because So Ji sub ♥ ) -The Banker (best kdrama of 2019, period) -Argon (last kdrama of Kim Joo Hyuk before his accident :'( ) -38 Task Force (Ma Dong Seok ! Come back to the dramaverse ! :'( ) -Hidden Identity -Pegasus Market (incredibly funny while it was dumb, boring when the story became serious, but half the show is a must watch and Kim Byung Chul ... performance of the decade ? XD )
More than 1 excellent kdrama per year, good decade I'd say. (^_^)
Other have pointed out Heirs ... personally I don't understand how so many sexist romance can be praised. That's the biggest kdrama mystery of the decade for me ...
Second ep: better (there's more ra mi ran so OF COURSE IT'S BETTER ), no more strangled cat voice, less violins.
But ... well ... if ra mi ran wasn't here this show would be pretty much worthless. She should be the female lead but hey, she's too old right ? She's not hot enough right ? It must be a perfect doll for female lead or else people wouldn't care ... sexism as usual.
But anyway, still too long (useless flashback, excruciaing violins, too much overdramatic ), pretty much pointless (what was the goal of the ep ? FL is lost but not alone in the end ... yeah, 1h20 for that ?) and it's almost 3 hours of dram this week with a teacher ... who was almost never with students.
The more I think about it the less I see any quality/reason to watch other than ra mi ran ... The good surprise is Kwon So Hyun, good character, but she's just a support role ...
That was too long with too much violins in the end (already can't stand the music, the cliche cheap tearjerking song with a castrated voice, insufferable I say ). Came for ra mi ran, she's almost not here. Instead there's a crying teacher (she's a woman, so she's crying ... yeah, what a good start <_<) ) and a pompous narrative telling me "you know, life is hard and it sucks ..." ... NO SHIT SHERLOCK ? (O_O)
Disappointed honestly. :(
What the best way to resume this intro: an empty cafeteria, the female lead is tripping all by herself => this is life, you're alone, you have to get up and fight ! Srsly ? This is dumbly cliche ...
"when you're watching a drama, prosecutor are always corrupted OR super hero. In truth prosecutor are normal". Self aware speech taken from the show.
Is this an experiment ? The first ep is probably the most bland/boring ep I've ever saw ... I even felt pity for the actors/actresses: playing uninteresting character in an uninteresting way amidst uninteresting story spiced with uninteresting humor ... gosh ! This was infuriatingly uninteresting ! (>_<)
It reminded me of Outrage (a Kitano movie): he was so pissed at people saying "why don't you make another yakuza movie ?" after saying "you only make yakuza movie" for many years he tried to make to most messed up yakuza movie to answer 'FUCK YOU !" to them and kill the yakuza myth.
Yep, I think the writer of this show is incredibly pissed at prosecutor drama and he wants to destruct the genre. That's the only explanation I can think of for this disaster. (°o°)
As expected the female lead is ... a placeholder. The writer didn't put much effort into the character, so Park Eun Bin can't do much. :/ Nam Goong Min is excellent ... what else is new ?
As for the story: 2 eps, one drama for ONE player. Yeaaaaah ... the rhythm isn't exactly marvelous. :/ For the rest: if you already saw/read any sport anime/manga there's no surprise, the tropes are here (thankfully, we're here for this after all).
Not a bad start per se (I'm happy to see Nam goong Min and his acting skills are top notch as usual) buuuuuuuut ... as I've said elsewhere I think the only force of this drama right now is ... to be the only sport drama since a long time. :/
"What are your expectations for dramas that are to come in 2020?"
No more romance in kdrama. Ever.
One could dream ...
2019 wasn't as bad as the romancalypse of 2018, writers tried some new kind of things, I'm happy to see the year ending with ra mi ran (black dog) and nam goong min (the stove), I'm curious about diary of a prosecutor ... yeah, some interesting drama to end the year I hope. :)
Will look out for money game (reminds me of the more than excellent movie Default, I always liked story about corruption, even more when there's a REAL woman lead). :)
For 2020 I would like a new The Banker (best 2019 kdrama, period), more real roles for actresses, more REAL female lead, more "old" women for lead (Ra Mi Ran, Chae Shi Ra, Seo Yi Sook, Do Ji Won, Lee Yo Won, Jung Young Joo ... there is SO many talented actresses in korea you don't see enough) ... overall I wish 2020 to be less sexist: more talented actresses, more real main role for women. (^_^)
Yeah, one could dream. :'(
Also, if Esom could have the main role in a kdrama without romance that would be really cool. :D And a new drama with Ryu Hye Young as main lead please (Eun Joo's Room was so good ...). :p
BTW, there's also some good actors I wish to see more: nam goong min, lee min ki, so ji sub, kim rae won ...
And more food porn drama (the genre is kinda dead :/ ).
All in all I didn't realized that I had so much expectations for 2020. XD
Raping isn't a big deal, but posting on facebook is the most evil thing of the world !
Woohoo ... that's a really coll message I must say ! XD
Srsly, that was beyond dumb, it's a waste of time and a retard comment on society: internet bad ! Raping ? Not so much ... and if you take your responsibilities if the woman gets pregnant you're a really good guy. \o/
For christ sake ... three rapes but the only message is "internet is bad" ... a spite in the face of rape victims. (u_u)
So yep, I know the feeling. It's Punch (https://kisskh.at/11642-punch-2014) who's killing everything for me. When I watch it (I don't do it often because of this phenomenon) I'm sucked into it, everything works, I cry manly tears at the end everytime because the pinnacle of male friendship is freaking beautiful ... and then every other show look like sh*t. :/
Punch is my all time all around favorite drama, not one drama ever met my expectations as much as this one. (^_^)
So when I'm in this "show hole" there's many things I can do: -trying a sh*tload of drama => honestly, that doesn't work often, but sometimes it does -reading comics/books => I have an advantage because I'm on Comixology Unlimited so there's many comics I can read -playing games => got almost 2000 games ... -watching anime => there's as much anime as drama ...
If nothing works => going back to the sure things. There's some anime I can watch over and over because they're incredibly good (One Outs for example, or Ghost in The shell SAC). So I watch it and when I'm over the "hole" I can try new drama ! \o/
My point is: I don't try to fill a space by something that must be as good as what was there before, I'll never be satisfied. Instead, I try to find different joys. :)
The start is bad, you must get over the first two eps but after that ... I cried as much as I cried when I watched Densha Otoko (reason why I like jdrama). Not the tearjerking kind of show, more of a feel good/life lessons/bonding with someone/what's a family kind of show.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
" directed by Kinji Fukasaku"
... he's dead.
It's the first movie that was directed by him, he also directed half of the second movie before dying (his son finished it). ;)
(wikipedia says "ONE scene" ... that's strange, at the time it was said half the movie ... maybe he was on set for half the movie but only personally directed one scene ? )
