Shinya Shokudo and Kodoku no Gurume are also lovely food-related dramas.
Two shows I know and keep forgetting to watch ... time to put them on my PTW and make some time for them. Nice to someone knowing them, food drama must live on. (^_^)

Not to offend you(coz you already seem mad at Pasta, haha) but Why do you say so many things that you yourself…
(I don't seem, I really am. :p )

If you think this is me writing too many things ... well, you didn't see/hear how much I can write/speak in my own langage when I talk about food. Most of the time I'm even lost in my speech. XD

Everything around the medical part is good and/or touching.

Almost everything else is garbage. Period.

It's so bad the writer even dare say "well, woman don't care about some punch in the face as long as there's money in it" about domestic abuse. Almost everything NOT medical is as stupid as this.

Too bad, it was good at the beginning but at some point ...

Kelly Cheung has a good role, I liked her character (up until I drop), on the other hand Joey law is ... a moron ? How can you like a character so ... moronic ? I don't know what the writer smoked before working on the show but there's clearly a switch in his style: sometimes it's well on point and sometimes it's ... WTF ?!?

A waste, there was a huge potential in this one. :/
On Our Unwinding Ethos Aug 18, 2019
Well ... the ending sucks. :/

Overall the show is interesting, funny, touching. But the ending is simply dumb, stupid, retard, useless, bad, excruciating, insulting ... seriously, I think there was a writer on the show then he was fired and another one came in at the last second without knowing what the show was all about. Or the production staff decided to fuck it all up because it was lacking sex and the writer did what he could to put a senseless romance at the last moment to please them.

I don't know, it doesn't make any sense anyway.

I recommend watching the show up until the school case (around ep 15-17 I think, it's incredibly heavy and well written and the best case of the show) and giving up after that. The female lead is rewritten, there's an absurd romance coming out of nowhere, everything is ... mixed up to put a sense of "whole" in the story (THAT is the stupidest part), the last ep is insulting and shows how lost the writer is ... and there's more but there's no point in kicking a dead horse right ?

So yeah, it's a waste to end the story this way but everything else is independant enough (it's a story made of non related cases) to not be ruined by it. Let's say there's many cases in the show and most of them are incredibly good while the last ones are sh*tty as hell. :)

Pasta pissed me off so much ... I'll hijack the topic to save the day, here comes my top food porn drama:

-Gourmet => https://kisskh.at/743-gourmet <= this one is like a saga, long story, much drama, really interesting from a food point of view but REALLY not for vegetarian (really, you're vegetarian ? Don't watch it, you don't wanna see it and you don't wanna know why)

-Osen => https://kisskh.at/434-osen <= the most touching, intelligent and sad food-culture drama you can find, the ending left me disheartened. If "bittersweetness" was a show, it'll be this one. For curious people who don't like mac donald, the stupid new junk food generation and what it's symbolizing.

-Chef => https://kisskh.at/20010-chef-mitsuboshi-no-kyushoku <= this one is so funny it's strange, I don't usually like Amami Yuki but here she's perfect for the overacting comic relief about what cooking is really all about.

-Ramen Daisuki => https://kisskh.at/14531-ramen-daisuki-koizumi-san <= this one is special, it's a ... I don't know the word, an "advertising drama" ? The eps took place in real life ramen shop and they talk about their ramen, it's interesting and leaving you hungry.

-Wakako Zake => https://kisskh.at/15006-wakako-zake <= this one is more alcohol/food cultural drama than food porn but it's another extremely interesting drama about food and everything around it.

On pasta I can only say this: the male lead is a bastard (I restrain myself, my first sentence was WAY more violent). Period.

Also: when you have worked in kitchen, the beginning is simply ... kdrama are lazily written, everybody knows that. But this one ? It's crystal clear the writer didn't put ONE foot in a kitchen in his entire life. The most stupid thing I ever saw in a kdrama was in The Package, when two french characters were named Evian and Algerie (I'll explain for the non-french: it's like naming two american characters Coca Cola and San Fransisco ... yeah, the writer didn't know anything about France that's for sure), but Pasta strike a nerve with the stupidity in this depiction of food work (I took a look at my note, I was really pissed at the time ... can't remember why but it's clear they made too much mistakes, I don't joke around with food).

So anyway, that was my POV on pasta (yeah, I really hated it, I dropped it, I forgot everything about it, that's what I do with bad shows/movies) but, mostly, my recommendation for excellent food porn drama, I couldn't pass on the occasion to talk about one of my favorite subject. :D

PS: somebody asked me this one day => "what is food porn ?"
I don't know if this is know only by fan of the genre or if only few people uses it but it's a term for shows who put emphasis on food. It can be cooking or cultural or even some life lesson (eating is a convivial thing as Gogol said, cooking is like love, it's all about sharing as I say). Now you know. :p

PPS:
Bambino (https://kisskh.at/126-bambino) was a catastrophe because they cut off too many things from the manga (which wasn't even finished at the time IIRC) so the story didn't make any sense BUT some parts of the kitchen training (since I was talking about working in kitchen ...) are well worth the watch (but not the whole show, especially the ending).

Dae Jang Geum is Watching (https://kisskh.at/30392-dae-jang-geum-is-watching) was ruined by the romance (a stupid romance in a kdrama, what else is new ?) but it's a true food porn: there's cooking, great emphasis on the look of the dishes, some metaphor on food AND THE BEST BUDDY SCENE OF ALL TIME ! I don't recommend the show but it's worth the watch just to see the best friend scene between Shownu and Lee Min Hyuk in a kdrama you could ever imagine (I honestly never saw a bro scene like this one except in old Honk Kong or Japanese movie). I cried so much manly tears ... what a waste to have ended it the way they did. Romance killed kdrama, but that's another topic ...

It's sad how food drama was a thing back in the days but now ... really not so much. Osen was right ... (yes, I'm teasing, go watch it). :/

That was the most abject thing you could possibly make about youngster ...

By cranky old fart for cranky old fart. Watching this was like hearing KKK talking about black people: I am not even pissed by the stupidity, it's simply TOO stupid and not worth my hate.

The antithesis of GTO ... I am amazed and speechless after watching a thing that hate the youngster so much. (O_O)

Title Our Unwinding Ethos Spoiler
20 eps subbed now ! \o/There's one story I didn't want to watch (the one about the TV show, too sexist, really…
Why a triangle ? What's the point of the romance ? They're a funny duo, there's no need for any "I love him, you love her, her love I, you her I, blablabla". :/

20 eps subbed now ! \o/

There's one story I didn't want to watch (the one about the TV show, too sexist, really didn't like what they did to Lin Rosina character (<_<) ) but the other ones ... that's what I like in this show: it's dumb by design but there's some heavy stuff at the end (the one with school story ... loved the ending) or some touching moment (the seven sisters story ending ...).

Yep, definitely an interesting drama BUT =>
Old_Anime_Lady Aug 11, 2019
Funny: I did the same thing last year. And I came to a conclusion: 2012 version is dumb because of ONE reason: the Great Teacher Onizuka doesn't want to be a teacher (at the beginning).

How stupid is that ? (u_u)

But I liked them both in the past, and now, after viewing one after the other it's crystal clear one must NOT compare them because if you do there's some serious flaws you can't unsee, but at the same time I must they had the balls to do something different (yeah: manga, anime, one live show ... they had to). Plus: there's Tsubasa Honda in the 2012 serie, how can I hate it ? :p

"Also which 2 J-dramas would you like to compare next?"

... Gokusen Vs GTO: who is the best life teacher for broken youngster ? Who is more stupid when it comes to love ? :D
Why isn't there shows like these anymore ? :'(

Anyway: comparison of sport drama with FEMALE lead ? There's not exactly many shows like these ... I'm a huge fan of Attack Number One but other than that ...

An incredibly messed up show that manages to be one of the best comedy show you can find.

It's SO bad it's funny to watch. I laughed from A to Z, from the beginning till the very end. NOTHING makes any sense, the characters are so cliche it's a propaganda and the whole story is a circle (it goes round and round and round and round ...).

The best way to describe the show is this: Outrage.

Outrage is a movie from Takeshi Kitano. The goal of the movie was to destruct the Yakuza's myth.
This show is all about destructing the doctor's myth. In the beginning there's a strange phrase "doctors are no saints". Pretty strange to say that in a medical drama ain't it ? But that's because the whole point of the serie is to show how doctors are petty, greedy, hypocrite, stupid, pretentious, short-sighted and so on.

This show is trying to put the saying "not erything is black and white" into form but fails miserably (sometimes it's a little disgusting, domestic abuse is not a trope you should use to make a character likeable). But the fail is so huge it's funny to watch.

Apart from the character theres a story. Don't put any hope in it because it ends with a black screen. Yes, 24 eps and the end is an abrupt black screen coming out of nowhere. Because for 24 eps the writer didn't know where to go and it shows in every step of the way: when something happen in the show there's a twist that doesn't make sense in the second to nullify what just happened. And it goes on like that for the whole show. And then there's a black screen "THE END" with a narrator saying "it's not finished yet, they'll have to go all over again". Thank you, good night, I won't bother making an ending to my show.

I've seen many messed up story, many messed up drama but this one ... I can't hate it. I honestly laughed my ass off with every ep. So yeah, I recommend it because ... it's so bad it's good. XD

ps: on the other hand, if you want to want to watch a good medical drama with politics => Wake up (season 1 and 2) => https://kisskh.at/13758-wake-up
Or a good bio thriller drama The Virus => https://kisskh.at/6199-the-virus

I like what I saw. The first 10 eps are subbed, watched some and the mix of comic and fantastic is kinda cool…
Yep, after the 10th ep I definitely want to see the whole show. (^_^)

There's some lengths for sure but overall it's enjoyable and kind of a refreshing story. :)

I like what I saw. The first 10 eps are subbed, watched some and the mix of comic and fantastic is kinda cool and well done. Reminds me of Ghost Hunt (an old anime, early 2000 I think), even if it's more comedy than supernatural. (^_^)

Ep 5: ok, it's a big pile of donkey shit.

Seriously: death and corruption everywhere => HEY ! PULL MY FINGER ! IT'S FUNNY ! \o/

WTF ?!? The narrative is so inconsistent it's like a mix of differents shows: one mature and one utterly retard.

And lee ki woo character is ruining the show. Period.

WHY for the love of satan (or god, pick your poison) a kdrama can't exist whithout an utterly useless shitty romance that doesn't make any sense ? It pisses me off so much to see such a waste of talent (because the female lead is solid and the story is interesting) that I understand why some peole hate drama: THIS thing make kdrama looks bad. Period.
On Wake Up 2: Never Give Up Jul 29, 2019
The first "season" was good, this second "season" is good too in a different way.

This time it's too long, there's some useless moments and some dilution but it's compensated by some really touching moments (I cried some manly tears watching it). It's not as well balanced as the first "season" but in the end that was an heck of a story.

And I must say that the thing I like the most in these two "seasons" is the fact that they're different. It's a whole saga in which each part is a whole and the whole is better than the part (I'm not even sure if that make any sense but that's my feeling). :)

A strong recommendation from me. (^_^)

"Every ep is the same: the problem is the victim's fault." You have to rewatch them then, for you didn't understand…
"But the cherry on top of your comment was the distasteful comment about rape, as it would be a trivial matter to be easily compared to what happens in the show."

Two options:
-you the biggest dumb guy ever
-you're trolling

I don't have time for any of this.
On Watashi, Teiji de Kaerimasu Jul 27, 2019
Watched the first 5 eps ... well, it's not bad. But it's clearly NOT GOOD AT ALL !

Without spoiling it, the big problem is the way they ... the way they ...

Let's start at the beginning: it's a show talking about work problems (overtime, motivation, maternity leave ...). That's the good part.
But it's a show with ... how can you fucked up the characters this much ? (>_<)

It's a show, when it's talking about sexual harassment, make it looks like it's the women's fault (women can't work properly so they use their big smile (and the rest) to please people). And the solution to sexual harassment is to ... not do anything and go away.

WTF ?!? (o_O)

Every ep is the same: the problem is the victim's fault.

It's interesting to talk about these problems, but they way it's done ... can you imagine a show talking about rape saying "rape is disgusting and it must stop, so to stop the rape every woman is going to wear large pants " ? That's what the show is all about. :/

The other problem is the main lead. She's a woman.

What's the problem ?

She's not doing anything ! Everything is solved by .... THE MAN (who is also her ex) ! Her, she can only talk to people, working and solving problem is for men RHA RHA RHA ! \o/

So yeah, it's not bad but it's clearly not good. (-_-)
