Her uncle's request is to mend any bad blood between their families and he was looking for an ally in the future (the empress didn't suggest this). He knows the new 'crown prince' is disposable and wants to ensure the Cui family has a back up plan.
All of his decision is about doing what's best for the Cui clan - putting chess pieces where they best belong. He dragged his dying ass to break off the engagement between CSY and CP to ensure someone in the family marries into royalty as it's clear the current CP isn't going to hold the title for much longer.

I rewatch AMA clips way too often on youtube haha! One of my favourite Bai Lu drama - the drama has it all! Wished the later half of the drama wasn't as draggy, but still soo satisfying.

Rating on Douban isn't out yet, but based on the short reviews, lots of 4-5 stars :) Seems to be well received! For comparison, Lulu's other currently airing drama - Song of Youth, has a lot of lower star ratings and the drama is rated an average of 5.1 on Douban I believe.

I do feel bad for his situation! In the novel, I really did pity the crown prince. It seems like they've expanded his storyline in the drama and is making him a bigger villain than he was in the novel.
The novel is actually only 1 book - set in modern time (their reincarnated life) and throughout the novel, snippets of their past life (ancient life) were told as flashbacks from FL's POV. Production decided to expand their past life storyline into 24 episodes drama and it makes sense to it first!
Agreed! I've just finished episode 34... oh it just gets better!! I'm just baffled why this isn't more popular...…
I think a big part is the lack of english subbed episodes :( Hoping once the entire drama is subbed, it will attract more viewers (but by then, the drama would have finishes airing for at least couple of months =T)
Just finished episode 32 - this show has kept me on my toes pretty much since the timeline caught up to present time and it was no longer through the past told from YJ and JXO's pov. I really need to stop myself from watching EP 33 and 34 and stretch it out so that I can somehow last until next Thursday.

This drama was exactly what I needed for such a shitty year - such amazing OST, writing and cast!
My cheeks hurt soo much from the smile I had on my face for the entire duration of EP16. My cheeks did get to take a little break during the scene with good boy and grandma and In Jae and family. Those two scenes I teared up - they were soo soo touching and perfect way for the two characters to come home to feel the love offered by grandma.
Lovelovelovelove Start-Up, and I'm soo happy with the pacing of EP16 (too many dramas rush through the last episode). Every character got their much deserved closure. LOVE!
Such a shame haters are rushing to rate this 1 star on douban because of this, rating dropped from 6.9 to 4.8! Wow. It's okay to hate on the actor, but to discredit the show worked hard on by other actors and crew behind the scene? Childish and rude.
This drama is so good, definitely does not deserve the 1 star.

We have to assume ZSC was in his teens when the king passed away in EP 1, but they didn't find a younger actor to play him lol.
