Never judge drama on rating cuz it's form korean people there are some dramas that did not get good rating in…
Yeah, I'd say Business Proposal is the most comparable to what we're seeing with Big Mouth. They both made it to 10% by episode 6. Big Mouth's ratings have risen 1% each week since it's premiere, but it'll be impossible for them to keep that streak going much longer. I'm curious to see what the ratings do in the next few weeks.

So according to you, there hasn't been a single successful drama all year and everything should be deemed "nothing extraordinary" until it achieves impossible ratings?

Excluding the ever-popular family dramas with 50-120 episodes (that always do well in ratings due to its older target demographic) the most successful drama of the year is Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which reached a high of 15.6% before slipping back down to 13-14% for the past month. The next highest is Our Blues with 14.4%. Big Mouth has reached 10.8% by it's 6th episode. In comparison, EAW's 6th episode reached 9.6% and Our Blues was at 7.7%. You can only compare a drama's success to the highest numbers for it's time. If any drama makes it to 20% this year, it will be a miracle. It's extremely rare to even break double digits these days, hence the article. Nothing biased about that.

Our Blues reaching 15% was very, very impressive! That and 2521 averaged around 10%, which is quite the accomplishment these days.

That's a really good point about 2016 compared to now. An interesting comparison to make is 2016's W vs. 2022's Big Mouth. Both are shows on MBC airing at the same time in the weekend lineup, premiered at the end of July, and star Lee Jong Suk. W premiered with 9%, peaked at 15%, and was considered a big success for it's time. Big Mouth premiered with 6% and only a quarter way through, has peaked at 10%. I'd say that when you consider the difference between then and now, these ratings are about equal. If anything, Big Mouth's numbers might be slightly more impressive. It just goes to show how different things are now.

I answered the OP if you want to check it out. The way ratings worked just a few years ago and how they work now is really night and day. I see that everyone is still under the impression that most dramas get above 10%, and it isn't an achievement until it breaks 15-20%, but that really isn't true. Even Extraordinary Attorney Woo, with all it's Netflix popularity, was only able to reach 15%. It's now been hovering between 13-14% for the past month.

Big Mouth is the highest rated MBC drama of the year. Tomorrow premiered to 7% before falling to 2-3% for the rest of it's run. From Now On Showtime stayed between 2-3% with the occasional 4% thrown in there. Doctor Lawyer never got higher than a 7%, and stayed between 4-6% for most of its run.

With many streaming services available in Korea, ratings in general have just plummeted. This is as good as any drama can do these days.

That's my biggest argument for who Big Mouse is. It's the title of the show, so it has to be the male lead in some capacity. Lee Jong Suk stars as some weakling being controlled by BM...? The big reveal comes and it's... some side character? It would be even worse if it was Jerry, the mayor, and another character played by someone with star power, because that would be stealing the male leads importance to everyone watching. I just don't see it happening.

**SPOILER ALERT**

He gets stabbed (and potentially killed) in a future episode. In the 4 minute highlight video released before the drama aired, you see Miho standing over him all bloody in the courtyard, and her taking care of him in the hospital in another scene.

All of these answers you're getting are really questionable.

Aside from Extraordinary Attorney Woo and the weekend family drama It's Beautiful Now (which doesn't really qualify because these 50 episode soap-esque dramas always get from 20-40% due to the draw of older viewers), no other show airing at the moment has reached double digits.

Alchemy of Souls, which is insanely popular on this website, hasn't gotten higher than a 7% all season. Some will say that's because it's on tvN (a cable network), but SBS's Today's Webtoon has been stuck between 2-4%, KBS2's Cafe Minamdang is getting between 4-5% each week, and If You Wish Upon Me is hovering at 3%.

Big Mouth is also the highest rated MBC drama of the year. Tomorrow premiered to 7% before falling to 2-3% for the rest of it's run. From Now On Showtime stayed between 2-3% with the occasional 4% thrown in there. Doctor Lawyer never got higher than a 7%, and stayed between 4-6% for most of its run.

What everyone is saying in the comments used to be true, but it's outdated info. Up until very recently, most Korean dramas weren't available for streaming for the Korean audience, so ratings were much, much higher. 10 years ago, it was common for popular dramas to get between 30-40%, and anything below 10% was considered pretty disappointing. Every year, those numbers get scaled back more and more, and these days, anything above 10% is a huge success. So yes, Big Mouth is very, very successful.

It's a really good drama to watch with someone, but I may have dropped it if I had to watch it alone. Seo In Guk is a gem and a treasure, and some of the scenes are really funny, but it doesn't make me anticipate what happens next.

I'd get a little further into the drama if I were you. I felt the same way after the first episode. I thought, "Ah, I understand now. This is going to be good!" Let's just say the first episode is probably the best.

I had high expectations for this drama because of all the hype, but I'm on episode 11 and just feel like I'm missing something. I saw everyone praising it for being their "feel good" drama, but there hasn't been a single episode that has lived up to that description for me. It's full of very tense, complex situations that makes me far more uncomfortable than over-the-top blood and gore in other dramas. None of the episodes end in a satisfactory way, either. The cases, the positions they take, and the outcome always leaves me feeling very confused. I enjoy the way they explore the opposite sides of each argument, but the end result is always kind of weird, or just not there.

I can't help but feel like the hype around this show is the product of an underdog drama from a lesser known cable network gaining a following through Netflix. Even I enjoyed seeing a quaint show that nobody was looking out for reaching new heights each week. I just wish that when I finally got around to watching it, I was met with the warm, fantastic show everyone claimed it to be. It's an ordinary, sometimes boring, law drama with a pretty average romance to boot. I do like the exploration of their relationship and the candid way they acknowledge the hurdles of being in a relationship with someone on the autistic spectrum, but that isn't enough to save it from being bland.

That isn't to say it's unwatchable or that it has no redeeming qualities. But it's a solid 7 out of 10 at best, with a .5 deduction for not meeting expectation.

For all the hardcore fans of the show, I think you'll see this happen a lot now that it's almost over and the hype was so overwhelming. When you go into a show expecting nothing, you can be pleasantly surprised by a nice drama. Anyone trying to watch this show after all the headlines said it was the greatest thing ever are bound to feel let down. Don't let anyone, including me, make this any less fun and thrilling for you. This is all my opinion, and so many people disagree that it shouldn't even matter.

And Disney+, but only with a VPN unless you live in one of the 9 countries in Asia with access. If you're desperate with no other options, you can watch on dramacool.

Yup. Like kdrama previews he is a liar who lies and is not to be trusted haha. This is my favorite theory bc it…
That doesn't make it a fantasy drama, though. He doesn't have super powers and he isn't invincible. It's just his fate to live a long life, so nothing can come between it. That fate element is present in every romance drama.

Besides, Big Mouth is set up like Batman. Gotham City/Gucheon City...? It's really not far-fetched.

With every story you listen to, it's important to know where the information is coming from. In this case, PCH is narrating. From there, you need to ask yourself who he's talking to while he narrates. Himself? Someone else? Well, the fact that he's breaking the fourth wall means he's talking to us. If he was PCH and he isn't BM, there would be no reason to lie to us. By saying at the end of this last episode that he fooled us all, it doesn't really look like he's telling us the truth. And since what we saw the whole episode was him declaring his innocence with some nonsense story that we saw no signs of in the episode he didn't narrate or acknowledge... it doesn't seem likely.

They established in the first few episodes that PCH isn't going to die young.

When he got in the car accident, the first words we heard were, "Of course I didn't die. I've been told that I will live a long and unlucky life." We see him evade death time and time again. He survives an unsurvivable car crash, he was hung but resuscitated, he's been attacked with deadly weapons several times and always escapes it with perfect timing. If you've narrowly and miraculously escaped death millions of times in your life, you'd get the hint that it isn't in the cards for you. He also has every shaman he comes into contact with saying the same thing. This idea that he knows something will save him in a life-threatening situation is established over and over again. And if you know you can't die, that's kind of a game changer, right? Look at it as his super power.

It also explains how he was able to become BM. If the threat of death is eliminated, you've unlocked a certain level of invincibility. Hence why he can "risk" his life to con people. It's not really a risk at all. And honestly, if that's the one shred of evidence keeping you from believing he's BM, it's doing its job perfectly.

I think PCH set up the note/tarot card passing to catch any unfaithful inmates before things escalate. In the preview, it looks like Jerry takes the tarot card (that would no doubt be helping PCH, according to his questionable story) and PCH catches him in the act. That's why he said he fooled us at the end. There is just no way they are going to confirm that PCH isn't BM (especially so swiftly and neatly) in episode 6.

He was lying. There is no way they revealed that he isn't BM (and how he knew all that information) in less than 5 minutes, let alone in episode 6. Every episode has ended in him looking straight into the camera. This time, he talked to us. I've always thought he was an unreliable narrator who is well aware that we're watching him, and that bit at the end pretty much confirmed it.
