Yup. The handsome cowboy is a thai drama that unfortunately I will never forget. When I started watching it I…
Are you talking about a specific drama or lakorns in general?
But yeah, I have noticed they are toning it down with the rape and mistreatment of women lately. At least when it comes to the main characters. With supporting characters you will still see rape, infidelity and violence against women in general.
I have never been raped, thankfully, so I can only imagine how it feels but yeah, it is probably worse than being cheated on. Because someone cheating on you hurts you emotionally and might create some trust issues but eventually you will be able to move on. While being raped hurts physically AND emotionally, and in the future even having some sort of intimacy with your partner can be a scary thing. Something that was supposed to be wonderful and a demonstration of your love, becomes a scary monster you have to fight.
So yeah, rape is probably a lot worse than cheating.
You know how there are good horror movies that are scary and make you be on the edge of your seat until the end? And you know how some horror movies are not scary at all and the plot is so bad that it feels like a bad comedy movie where people just happen to die?
Well, same thing can happen with the fantasy/supernatural genre. Unfortunately, for me, this was the second type. I have watched several dramas with this genre and this one together with Bride of Habaek are some of the worst dramas I have watched in this genre.
Sure, the cast was great, there was bromance and from episode 11 forward there was some action. But the plot and fantasy elements felt cringy and boring, just like I felt while watching Bride of Habaek. I think with time, the rating for this drama will also fall in the 7s just like Bride of Habaek did.
Maybe I will get some hate for this comment. But you need to remember that how long you have been watching dramas and your personal preferences affect your view of a certain drama. I have been watching dramas for over 10 years and I like the fantasy/supernatural genre to have some basis that is somehow realistic so I can believe it and a plot that is deep and well written so I wont be bored. And this drama just didnt have that.
Yup. The handsome cowboy is a thai drama that unfortunately I will never forget. When I started watching it I…
Yeah, I definitely hate rape and like I said some dramas were able to make it less horrible but that does not mean I found it acceptable and after it happened I did not care much for them being together anymore.
Personally, I dont think I would be able to forgive, much less be in a relationship with someone who raped me. It is an act of violence that shows total lack of respect for the person. It is as bad, actually worse, than cheating.
Lol episode 23 was kind of surprising. Things went from 8 to 80 really fast.
About the drama as a whole, I dont have much to say. I found the business part kind of boring at times and I could not care less about some of the side characters.
I also did not like how the main leads kept going to someone else for advice and comfort even after they started dating. Some might say that if there is trust in the relationship there is nothing wrong with meeting with someone else alone. But I disagree. Even if you trust that person, if your boyfriend is having dinner in a fancy restaurant with some nice music and her all dressed up, to anyone who knows him and walks by, it looks like he is cheating on you, even if he isnt. Also, spending several hours with another man and not picking up your boyfriends calls is not nice either.
I think 47 episodes was way too much. I keep seeing this with Chinese dramas. When its a historical drama I can put up with a good amount of episodes, but for modern dramas, anything that is over 30 episodes is usually too much for me. There are some exceptions, but most of the time this is how I feel. And this drama, unfortunately, was not one of those exceptions.
They start dating like around ep 15-16, but there is a situation near the end (eps 23-24) that makes them be apart from each other. Not really a break up, at least not to him, but they do spend like 6 months without any contact. I cant say more without spoiling it.
it also similiar to horimiya XD there few of those anime\manga that has the same plot with different perosna at…
I have watched/read some seinen that I liked. Its just that most of the times, since it is a genre geared towards males, I dont find it interesting. Ecchi is definitely not my kind of thing. Most of the times there is no plot to it and its more like a light porn that somehow is ok for kids to watch. I would say my favorite genre is shojo but not the actual shojo that is geared more towards kids, the 90s shojo that had a very well developed story with all sorts of genres like romance, comedy, thriller, tragedy, and so on. There are some that I have re-watched countless times. The 90s were definitely the best decade for anime.
I agree. Though I think I had a couple more issues than you. I really did not like how her having powers was dealt…
I agree with all you said, I was just too lazy to write. XD I also thought the whole power thing was left aside for most of the drama. We see it in the beginning, then when there was that pervert and then at the end. I was expecting a lot more inconveniences like random guys falling for her. And there were times when technically she should have let out electricity and nothing happened. Lots of inconsistencies with the whole power thing.
I think what I liked about the drama was their cute moments and like you said, how the parents were chill people instead of the cliché "against their relationship".
Rewatching a few scenes here and there, I have to say, amidst all the incredible toxicity, this couple is just…
Yeah, I completely agree with you. Waiting for better subs to keep watching. Right now they used google translate and its impossible to understand what they are saying.
Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. In this drama that is not the case. Pikachu and the swimmer have an awesome relationship. But that is about it.
Its a cute fluffy drama that has a very weak plot, specially as the episodes progressed. The start was good but with each episode there seemed to be less and less about the plot. It was just the main leads and supporting characters there without much happening. Their relationship was also mostly falling and tripping on each other and several kisses until they actually started dating and there was no clear distinction in their relationship from before and after they started dating.
So yeah, its not a bad drama, its cute and all. But it is something to watch when there is nothing else to watch. There are a lot of other school romance dramas that are a lot better than this one.
I have watched the first episode and I got the feeling there will be no romance. Just her going out and possibly doing the devil’s tango with a bunch of younger guys. We will see. But if that is what the story is about, then I will find the closest exit and let myself out.
Was the drama cut short? I feel like I did not watch certain situations that were mentioned later on.A few examples…
Yeah, I know the feeling. I was thought: finally she left. But then the drama ended. It was like after the conflict with her was resolved the writers could not think of anything else to keep the drama going.
I think 1 or 2 more episodes would have helped wrap up the drama more neatly. The supporting characters did not have a proper ending, and in my opinion, neither did the main characters. Seems like only the parents got their happy ending and a conclusion to their story. :(
your comment is making me thankful i'm watching the 2001 version, idk yet if its better but at least the ML in…
Yeah, I have not watched the 2001 version but this one was definitely disappointing. I cant remember the details since I watched it over a year ago with a lot of skipping, but I think the main problem was that even after the ML found out the truth, that is was not her, he did not change his behavior towards her that much.
You would expect that after you find out you have been kicking the wrong dog, you would stop kicking it and apologize, that was not the case here. Please, dont kick dogs, this was only for comparison purposes. LOL
it also similiar to horimiya XD there few of those anime\manga that has the same plot with different perosna at…
True. I did not know Horimiya because it is a little more recent but I might check it out later. I am not surprised there are so many stories with this plot considering the Japanese society cares a lot about reputation and stuff. So I imagine a lot of people have to put a mask when they are outside, some even at home to please the husband/wife and in-laws.
EDIT: Seems like there will be an anime version coming out in January 2021. Definitely checking it out. Its so rare to get this kind of anime nowadays. Most of them are ecchi or seinen, and the shojo ones are way too childish. :(
if i'm not wrong I think you guys are thinking of Switch Girl :)
Yeah, I watched it several times. The only thing I did not like is how they wrapped up the anime. It did not feel like an ending. But the story and characters were pretty interesting.
The last few episodes are not on the same level as the rest of the drama. Hopefully this wont be another drama that has a good first half and then goes downhill in the second half.
Was the drama cut short? I feel like I did not watch certain situations that were mentioned later on.A few examples…
Yeah, I was left with the same feeling. Maybe this was originally supposed to have 30 episodes and they had to cut it down to 24. That would explain why it is missing so many things that were only mentioned. I wanted to see them with their parents and after they graduate and start working to see how they would react. Also, maybe she meeting his parents (and grandma) and him meeting hers. I feel like this was such a good drama but was missing something.
Last time I felt this way was when I completed the drama Go Ahead. I was like "wait, thats it? this is the ending? what about their wedding? how come the conflict with his mother was suddenly solved so quickly?"
Dont get me wrong, I loved that drama. Which is exactly why I felt so empty when it ended so abruptly. Also, at the time MDL had a different episode count, so when I watched the last episode I did not know it was the last episode and it did not feel like the last episode. I thought there would at least be 1 more episode for their wedding and for the other brother to find someone and the other supporting characters to have a conclusion to their relationships. It felt incomplete, just like Professional Single.

Possibly. I started watching a few months ago as it was getting subbed and was also watching several other dramas at the same time, so its possible I missed some hints here and there that I would have not missed had I watched without such long breaks between episodes. I probably forgot a lot too. I will definitely re-watch this drama in the future so I can pay more attention to these things and maybe see the story and characters in a new light.
Hi Hime! I think I remember. Was it about a girl who was perfect at school, but a total trashy mess at home? I…
Yeah, Idk how old you are but the other one is pretty old. I mostly watched old school anime because I was interested in it from my childhood to teenage years. I said I watched it like 10 years ago, but now that I think about it, it was longer, more like 13 years ago. I am a 90s kid so most of the anime I watched aired between 1990 and 2010. I actually got the best window for watching anime as most anime nowadays is about horny pre-teens and girls that are 10 years old but have the body of an adult woman. Sigh
if i'm not wrong I think you guys are thinking of Switch Girl :)
I have watched Switch Girl and it has some similarities too, but its not the one I was thinking about. The one I thought about is a lot older, like early 2000s or even earlier. She has short red hair and he has a troubled childhood that left him with a lot of trauma which the female lead later helps him heal from. I know I will eventually remember the title or find it, if I do I will edit this comment.
EDIT: Ok, figured it out. I suddenly remembered the title had the word kanojo in it and I knew it was an older anime since I was born in 94 and stopped watching anime around 2010, which was when I turned to manga and dramas. So I searched for that word and I knew as soon as I saw the cover for the anime. The title is Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (aka Kare Kano) and its from 1998, so pretty old compared to Switch Girl which is from 2011.
