Hi Hime! I think I remember. Was it about a girl who was perfect at school, but a total trashy mess at home? I…
Yes. She looked flawless at school but at home would wear a red track suit with headband on her hair and glasses. There is a story that has similarities like the other person who replied said, which is Switch Girl, but its not that one that I was thinking about.
EDIT: Ok, figured it out. I suddenly remembered the title had the word kanojo in it and I knew it was an older anime since I was born in 94 and stopped watching anime around 2010, which was when I turned to manga and dramas. So I searched for that word and I knew as soon as I saw the cover for the anime. The title is Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (aka Kare Kano) and its from 1998.
Just out of curiosity, which are other bad ones,,Im planning to catch up with some and would like to know
Damn, girl. Same. These were all dramas that were either bad from the start or went downhill near the end. The last one on your list was one that I felt was pretty boring at times and a little cliché but I liked the characters and the piano music was nice, then near the end everything got worse and they were even able to ruin one of my favorite characters by making him do something completely out of character and unnecessary. Still mad about that.
I don't understand the hate people are giving to this drama. There were lessons here. It showed something real.
Because at the end of the day you want a drama to make you feel something. You want to be excited while watching it, laugh, cry, say awww, something. But as someone who has been watching dramas for 10 years, several of them with unrequited love and love triangles, I found this one to be boring and not really have much of a plot aside from the unrequited love that was not unrequited after all.
I did not hate the drama though. I just did not love it and felt I could have been just fine had I never watched it. I think people who have recently started to watch dramas or people that can relate to the characters might have enjoyed it.
I kind of liked the first half, didnt love it, but it was ok, the second half though felt like a torture to watch and I skipped a lot.
This drama kind of feels like the writers dug a hole and threw themselves in it and then filled it up with dirt while still inside it. Sigh
They chose to put all these depressing themes like unrequited love, long-distance dating, love triangles, sickness and death, breaking up and getting back together again likes its nothing, and so on all in the same drama and make it pretty much the plot. They focused the whole plot on this and the work and other things happening in the characters life were made boring or not that important.
If I had to describe this drama I would say it is anti-climatic, boring and not something that would be well received in 2020, maybe in 2010, but not in 2020.
I imagine new drama watchers or people that can relate to the events in the drama might like it, but for me and other old school drama watchers that could not connect to the characters, this was a disaster.
Its not that it is awfully bad, its just nothing special. It does not make you invested in watching it nor makes you feel it was worth watching after you finish it.
This reminds me of a Japanese manga/anime. I cant remember the name now but the female lead was also completely different at school than her real self at home. And it was not only about her appearance, even her personality was completely different. The male lead was also not really as perfect as everyone thought, including the female lead.
UGH, please, someone, what is the title? I watched it like 10 years ago so I cant remember.
From what I gathered about the LW/JS situation (this is just my personal take-away) is that JS was in love with…
That is what I think too, just wish the writers made it more clear instead of us making theories to try and fill those holes. But like you said, I would rather watch the fluffy scenes we got instead, which is why I still gave this a 9, which is one of the best ratings I could give to a drama.
I think I have only given a 10 to a drama once out of all the hundreds of dramas I have watched in the past 10 years. And it was because it was a very emotional one that made me cry every single episode and was based on a true story.
I had previously found it with a search but it seems the subs state is the same. Episodes 9-13 have not been subbed…
Well, I didnt know when it would be since I had waited for a few weeks and there was no update at all, so I just watched the last 4 episodes raw. I did not like the drama that much so I dont feel I lost anything by watching some of the episodes raw. But thank you for updating us here on MDL.
I wish the whole thing was real instead of it being a script written by the FL in the present day. But oh well, it was still a nice wrap up with a hint of a modern day romance and a last scene that was really cute.
You should mark your comment as a spoiler. But about what you said, I was not surprised. At that point I knew…
Yeah. They pretty much ruined his character and the whole drama. It was not in his character to do something like that. Like I said to someone else, the writers should have watched 18 Again to see what an emotional ending without a train wreck is like.
Even though I had suspected the illness, the result was a punch in the gut that I didn't see coming. Glad it didn't…
Yes, the drama was pretty good until episode 14, best until before their separation so like ep 10. Then it went downhill. What I meant is that before that I was already seeing the red flags. I have been watching dramas for 10 years so by now I can tell when the writer is getting ready to throw the train off the rails. The being sick part was sad but I was ok with it in terms of storyline. The moment they decided to go for death I knew I would be angry either way. If he actually died I would be super sad and I cried even when I knew he probably didnt. But him coming back at the end was completely lacking any logic and made me just as angry as if he had actually died.
First, it is not in his character to pull such a bad "prank".
Second, what about the whole conversation his mother had with Ra Ra? Was she also in on it? Did she not feel bothered seeing Ra Ra suffer so much? And if she also thought he died like everyone else, wouldnt that make the ML a huge jerk that faked his death to a mother that struggled so much to get pregnant with him?
If he wanted to wait until he got better, then he could just not show up and not contact her. She would feel really worried, but it would have been a better option than making her and a bunch of other people grieve his death when he was not even dead.
The writers completely ruined his character which was one of my favorites, if not my favorite, and for what? That ending was so unnecessary. They should have watched 18 Again to see what a proper ending for a drama is. One that is still emotional but not a train wreck.
So you mean to tell me I sat there and blubbered like a baby cause I thought he died only for him to just pop…
You should mark your comment as a spoiler.
But about what you said, I was not surprised. At that point I knew I would be angry at the writers either way because they decided to pull something so cliché, unnecessary and lacking any logic.
I was going to say I liked it but did not love it. Not because of the cast nor the acting, but because of the plot which was draggy at times and cliché and full of holes at other times. But guess what?
Then the last episode came and the writers pulled something that was so 2010 that I could not believe they were really going to do that....but they did. I felt like throwing my laptop against the wall.
Like, seriously? You have such a great cast and nice piano music and you ruin it all because of an awful script. Sigh
I am out of words. All I can say to the people that have not reached the last episode yet is to have a box of tissues near you and hide anything you could think of grabbing and breaking in a fit of anger. And dont forget, breathe in, breathe out.
I don't mind the flaws I need something light love like with Ray Ma and I like the female lead....I was watching…
It is a happy ending, otherwise I would have included it on one of the reasons. LOL But like I said, for the last 20 episodes you barely get any screen time of the main leads and as soon as they get together we do not get much of them as a couple as one would expect. So if you want to watch for the romance, I am not sure it is worth your time.
have to disagree, the alignment of planets,.the time you were born is very important and it rules our lives. Astrology…
About your last question, we are not perfect. Being tired after a busy day at work, being in a bad mood, having received bad news, and so many other things can cause us to say harsh words to people we love when we dont intend to. At that moment we just want to be left alone so if a person we care about keeps bothering you or said something that did not sit well with you, then it would not be surprising if you say something a little more harsh. Humans are very complex.
Was the drama cut short? I feel like I did not watch certain situations that were mentioned later on.A few examples…
Ok, I think I cleared some things up. Thank you. About Ling Wei, I was also assuming that, I just wish it was actually explained and not left for us to guess.
I am still confused about SC sudden change of attitude tho. He was always helping and protecting her and then in the last few episodes he was suddenly saying he hated her and his mind was clearly somewhere else which translated into him doing awful sculptures. So it feels like something else happened but I dont remember any event that would make him like that out of nowhere.
I've watched the first two episodes and if it keeps up this quality, this drama can be amazing. Sadly, Yoyo is…
I think it is because with that cast and being a school romance drama they know they can get more attention by promoting it instead of this one. I watched Professional Single and loved it, but I am also going to watch this one since I also like this kind of drama. Hopefully it will be a good thriller, not too predictable nor draggy.
The best conversation of this drama would have to be:Yuan Qian: Do you want to be a dog?Qin Shen: Woof.Only people…
Was the drama cut short? I feel like I did not watch certain situations that were mentioned later on.
A few examples are: I dont remember Yuan Qian ever meeting his grandmother. In fact, that call she made to him was the first time I even saw the grandmother’s face.
Also, when Qin Shen "went missing" I did not realize anything until it was mentioned that he was not there for a few days. I dont remember him getting a call saying his mother was sick or anything to make him up and go and not even text Yuan Qian that he would be away for some time.
And finally, what happened between Qin Shen, Ling Wei and Si Cheng that made them break apart? That was never explained in detail. I know Si Cheng likes Ling Wei and Ling Wei likes Qin Shen but that alone would not be a good enough reason for best friends to stop being friends or for both of the guys to hate Ling Wei. Also, Si Cheng is pretty nice to Ling Wei for most of the drama and only in the last few episodes he seems to suddenly hate her?!
I am quite confused about these. Maybe I missed something since I started watching this as it was getting subbed so for example, after I watched episode 10 I waited like 2 weeks to go back to the drama so I could watch a few more episodes.
Can someone who have finished just tell me if these were actually never explained or if I am just a dummy that cannot remember watching it? LOL
The best conversation of this drama would have to be:
Yuan Qian: Do you want to be a dog? Qin Shen: Woof.
Only people who have watched the whole thing will understand. LOL
That said, this was one of the best Chinese school romance dramas I have watched. The pace was perfect - they did not get together in the first few episodes but also did not take until the last episode to start dating. The pace was very realistic and everything happened naturally. Their interactions were also the cutest thing I have seen in a while second to only watching videos of kittens and puppies. I barely skipped and I tend to skip when things get draggy so that says a lot about the plot and the characters. Definitely a drama I intend to re-watch in the future.
There are some things I am wondering though and that I will explain below, but only read if you have already watched the drama.
The storytelling was bad and almost made me drop it in the first week, then after the second week I realized it was not worth waiting for this drama every week so I just left it alone until it finished airing. And just now I went through the rest of the episodes with a lot of skipping.
What I did not like: - The plot itself and the way the story was told. I think not even the writers were sure about where they wanted to go with it;
- The fact that 90% of the characters were either bad guys or grey characters that you cannot exactly call the good guys. How am I supposed to relate to people that earn their paycheck by fooling other people into giving them theirs???;
- The main leads barely spent any time together and the screen time was filled with a bunch of "supporting" characters that I could not care less about;
- And finally, the end, which managed to be as bad as the rest of the drama.
What I liked: - The cast and the few moments the main leads were actually together in the same scene.
