In fact, there are a lotta of good potential love stories on CLJ lol. Thank goodness they only focus on the main one. Some off the top of my head...CDNZ and RH (tragic noble master/ villainous student). CH and DY (god of war/ loving, faithful maid). CH and RH (BL, soulmates). JL and SQ (scrappy jaded poor girl/ sweet powerful body guard). DFQC and CH (BL, enemies to lovers ).
The thing that saved the drama is the team behind it CARED for their product
agreed. I know ppl love the cast, esp WHD (well-deserved) but the team behind the actors really amplified the story, visuals, and ost. CLJ is a wonderful example of team effort.

On your first point, I agree and want to add that trauma really impacts one's ability to make rash decisions. If we know anything for sure about LBY, it's that this guy has got good reasons for being the way he is. The more I see how his character is revealed, the sadder I feel for this young person (as an adult). There were so many constraints and considerations made around him by his elders, but only Yue Fei understood how they would impact or be interpreted by him. Still, she couldn't know everything and his wounds are his own to communicate when he's ready. LBY's situation is just all around tragic.
And, its really the 2nd point that you've made is why I'm continuing to watch. I def agree that, ultimately, it's CSS's choice who she wants to be with. And at her older age, she's equipped with the maturity and wisdom to make that choice for herself. I like the idea of how the 2nd time around with LBY, she's not forced through a decree, but willingly wants to be by his side as an equal partner. I sure hope the writers do AND gives us justice! LMAO

He needed to be on his five year "retreat" before implicating CSS, whether it was intentional or not. But he made a mistake, no matter how you explain it, you can't excuse it.

pfft HAHA agree! I feel that audiences that are frustrated with CSS aren't quite getting that just st because she's sly about others' relationships, it doesn't always translate to self-realization. She's a girl who has mostly interacted with other girls and was never quite interested in the opposite sex (RIP ex-fiance fed like a dog). I was totally scratching my head when I saw LBY's š in his looks, smiles, gazes, and encroaching physical proximity towards CSS and her š¤ responses. While the audience is like šš¤¤š¤¦āāļø. Later when I realized that CSS is not quite fully grown, LMAO, did it click. But that whole wine dripping from the lips staring scene in 36 though! I felt happy and hopeful for this CP's future nuptial relationship.
Consort Yue Fei did not come to play with anyone at the luncheon. She spilled all the tea!! I am liking her character.
LOL. I love her What I appreciate about show is the diverse representation of the older female characters. Not all strong women are strong in the same way. Not all mothers love the same way. Old ladies aren't evil in the same way either lol. Even the younger noblewoman are changed and mature due to events in their life.

Agreed! CSS is a character that has experienced the pain of living under another's charity (Grandma and aunt) and being neglected by those that should've protected her (parents). With this life experience, why would a smart and cunning girl like CSS trust the next half of her life with some dude that comes out of nowhere and proclaims his love and loyalty lol. No matter how dreamy he is.
She needs to heal from her past too, and it will take her coming into her own strength and power If we've seen anything from the palace drama so far, it's CSS's cleverness and LBY's favor are nothing in the face of imperial power and interests. Her mom called her out on this in the beginning. I can't wait for CSS after the separation!

I started watching cause of Lei Jiayin LOL. But the character of Ji Jiang is def best boy! His lil boy version stole me heart LMAO. Lil PZ is cute too...and gives better vibes than the adult Strawberry PZ.

I feel the young actress is fine... it's just that the adult version is somewhat of a wallflower and yes...lacks some charisma. But ZZF is normally okay. I think Chen Wenqi and Zhao Jinmao would also have been suitable for the role. Maybe the character gets better... here's to hoping lol.
