it's 100% fine to disagree with people. Can you explain tho what's disgusting about shipping them? Unless you…
You are a feckless, brain dead, mentally deranged bully.

Hello, this comment is for those checking out the drama: don't mind those MF. There ain't no BL in the drama,…
You are pretty freaking sick and cringeworthy if you think people shipping same-sex characters is some kind of transgression. How old are you, 12?

I see that your critical thinking button is still on. I’d suggest turning it off for a bit if you want to enjoy…
ah yikes, your comment is making me think dropping this drama after 7 episodes is probably the right call. Seems it will only get more and more cringey and nonsensical from this point on. Already the subject matter is too much of a downer considering what's currently going on in the world but the characters themselves (especially the FL) + the extremely slow pace are making this such a torture watch.

i've said this again and again, it is because li zan is described this way in the novel. if u don't know about…
I feel like knowing about the character (meaning having read the novel) shouldn't be a prerequisite for speaking honestly about how one feels regarding the characters in the drama. Not everyone is going to have read the novel and people shouldn't be expected to filter their experience through that lens.

How is it doing in China?
Thanks for this. I reread my comment just now and only just realized I made a stupid mistake in my comment when I stated it was 21 million "average views per episode" lol , when it's the daily number of views. I agree with your whole assessment, especially related to Yu Zheng. Just checked and the average views per episode is currently 8.35 million. The views are going sideways so I doubt this will make more than 20 million by the end of the heat period.

How is it doing in China?
Yeah I know. Still, Yu Zheng popped the champagne far too early and told everyone this would be a big hit. Ultimately, he boosted people's expectations.

How is it doing in China?
Not amazingly well but it's still a little early to tell. It's gotten a bit of a boost in the rankings now that several bigger dramas have finished airing, but it's only gotten to around 21million average views per episode on Yunhe (relatively low). Yu Zheng is acting like it's a big success just because it topped a Maoyan chart and it got to number 2 on Datawin but tbh I've seen mixed to negative reactions.

I am confused for the 'low budget feel' of the drama/script there are a lot of famous actors and actresses.
Famous actors and actresses? This cast is a bunch of newbies with flat billing. The casting was cheap.

Am I the only one who thinks this drama has both good quality and low budget vibes?Like, I can't quite put my…
It's giving low budget because the scope is so small. Most of it takes place on the same street. Personally I don't love the styling. The wigs come off as very "wiggy" if that makes sense and the clothes are colorful bordering on garish. What with it being a Mango drama with a young cast of actors who are not well known (with the exception of perhaps Wang Xingyue and he's still very new to the scene), I don't think we can expect a high budget. Still, I think Yu Zheng said the budget was at least S from what I remember.

Was this drama actually being promoted as inspired or related to Pride and Prejudice? Maybe the setup is familiar…
Yu Zheng did compare this drama to Pride and Prejudice and Bridgerton. I don't think it's openly being promoted that way, but it's clear where the inspiration comes from. It's not crazy to say it's supposed to be the Chinese version of said stories.

Yes, the series is one of the better ones in the genre in recent years. But the series is probably lacking a traffic…
He has some popularity but he's definitely not traffic. He doesn't have enough of a fanbase to launch a drama with a high viewership. Regardless, he's a well established male lead with a good track record, so he can be given average resources, and he's useful to prop up young actresses like Sun Zhenni.

I have watched all three aired dramas and loved them. I don't trust duoban   rating. All three dramas comment…
Whoa, what? Fangs of Fortune is an S rated drama as far as I know, in fact it was given a lot more promotion than other dramas at iQiyi being that this is their big costume drama to compete in the second half of the year. I generally disagree about douban vs. mydramalist as the latter is way skewed towards idol dramas and is heavily influenced by whoever happens to have more fans overseas.

I have no issues with the fans of this drama and I respect everyone's tastes but tbh this drama is really not viewed as a super hit in China. In fact, quite the contrary, it's widely viewed as yet another iQiyi flop this year. I follow all data groups very closely and while this one might end up being the top performer of the year for iQiyi and it was given a strategically long broadcast to increase its chances of having a higher average number of views, that isn't saying much. It's been a HORRIBLE year for iQiyi. It's still uncertain whether this drama will even reach 20 million average views per episode during the hit period and the heat index peaked at 8,500 +. I do agree that there is a good degree of discussion about it from fans who enjoyed the CPs and the visuals. I really really don't have a bone to pick with this drama and I have nothing against any of the leads, I'm just stating what I know to be true about this broacast.

On Fangs of Fortune Nov 24, 2024
First time checking this page and NGL, I'm surprised at the fact it's rated higher than the other two costume dramas that aired simultaneously when in China it's the other way around and this one performed so much worse than zhulian yumu and yongye xinghe. I dropped the other two and haven't even started this one, but it's truly amazing how overseas fans can have the opposite reaction to Chinese fans.

The director, Edward Guo is pretty controversial in Mainland China, that's why many haters are spamming his work…
Nah...review bombing doesn't explain it. My Journey to You has a 6.2 which is much higher than the current 5.1 of Fangs of Fortune. He has as many haters as he has fans, and many people will watch his dramas just because he's the director. This drama was heavily criticized for the pacing right from the beginning.

this drama deserves a higher rating .. the story is progressing nicely.
Douban rating 7.9?? Where are you getting that from? This drama still doesn't have a Douban score.

Bro, chill 😂. We've got 29 episodes. There's plenty of time for Male Lead character development.
To be fair to Cdramas, this kind of "abusive male lead" plot is actually no longer that popular with audiences. This drama in particular is getting a lot of flak in China precisely for the same reasons you describe and so far the relatively flat viewership and popularity seem to confirm this, though it's a bit premature to know how well it will fare in the long run. This drama is an adaptation of a very old novel (I believe it's from the 2000s) that many consider to be outdated. I'm actually a bit surprised that they decided to adapt this plot when it would so clearly cause controversy. In fact, Goodbye My Princess, the last iconic drama of this more "red flag male lead" track, dates back to 2019 and many agree it wouldn't be as well received today.
