I agree with everything you wrote, except one thing: Tencent releasing 2 ep a day everyday has impacted negatively…
At least they got it on Netflix super fast...but internally (China) they probably thought they didn't need any promo because XZ is so big...which maybe it's true given that the drama is topping every list even without any marketing.
I'll never get this kind of comment lol, sounds like something a 12 year old would say, and I'm not even a massive fan of this drama but, congratulations I guess?
tbh a ton of the negative comments she's been getting are coming from fans of XZ.
I can't speak to who is a true fan or a fake fan, nor am I referring to this comment section, but in general. I don't know if some of the bashers are CP XZ fans, or "fake / bad" solo fan, just that a ton of the criticism towards her has come from fans of his. This isn't to label his fandom as the culprit though, it's too big a fandom to say that and I do think most XZ fans seem more supportive and level headed, but with a fandom that large you're bound to get some people doing this.

That's your anecdotal evidence, not mine though. I'm not saying the hate RM is getting comes exclusively from his fans, just that a faction of his fans have definitely complained.

It's what I've personally seen both on the intl side and on the Chinese side. As you well know, XZ's fanbase is HUGE though, so there *is* a group of fans of his who truly dislike the FL and have been very vocal about it.
I really believe that behind them is more than hate, the high popularity of xz and his works are not a source…
My point is that intl audiences matter very little....and something like the MDL rating is at most relevant only to intl audiences. MDL only really matters if you're trying to get a sense of what's popular for the small market outside China who watches these dramas.
