I mean he is supposed to be "boring" because he cast all his emotions aside, but what makes him different is his social anxiety, awkwardness and vulnerability, something we basically never see in a xianxia ML. But as far as the comedy...if it doesn't work for you it just doesn't. Not everyone finds the same things humorous. I'm genuinely surprised when anyone criticizes the CGI though, when it's something so universally recognized as good in this drama.

But back to the ML, there is soooooooo much to SDYQ though that looking back at the first 4 episodes having watched 28 all I can say is he's one of the most intricately built characters I've seen in Cdramaland, not just in a xianxia.

This is such a good question. I've heard people say Wenren didn't actually get to have sex with all those women and was just leading them on. I disagree given how fast he was going with Yetan (tried to undress her) but mainly due to all that women's underwear in his possession. SDYQ 2.0 is definitely a virgin though, he retains Wenren's memories but Wenren was his own person with his own body even if his soul was a fragment of YQ's. It's gotta be awkward though because SDYQ would have never behaved in quite such an outrageous way as any of his fragments did.

I've said this before but his microexpressions are pretty much on point...there's so much he can telegraph with his face...seduction, anger, darkness, innocence, charm...he just oozes charisma when he wants.

This really reminds me of the Light and Dark force dyad in Star Ways between Kylo and Rey. The key is the balance.

Indeed...I saw some people claim frustration at her inaction, but her motivations made total sense. She loves them truly and equally, as individuals and the idea of parting with what made her fall in love with SDYQ knowing he might return and be the same emotionless deity was too much to bare for her. Landi doesn't need to do a ton of crying to get across the angst of her emotions.

I also have a male and a female cat. I saw interviews from the GMP era where he already owned one, don't know when he got the second. I need to go dust off all the content from 2019. I just wanna say I ADORE your analysis. You put into words so many things I've been thinking. "He has a mouth." C-netizens are so right, no unnecesary dragged out drama. Somehow YQ feels like a real, 3 dimensional person, not "just another cold xianxia ML". They are great as individuals and even better as a couple.
