I've been waiting for this drama, and it's finally here! 😍🔥
Episode 1 was a solid start! Honestly, there's nothing I dislike about it so far. Right away, we're introduced to Ye Li as a capable, intelligent young woman who isn't afraid to call people out. There are still plenty of mysteries surrounding both her and Li Shan, but the first episode did a great job establishing her character. Bai Lu was excellent as a quiet mastermind with a blunt yet laid-back personality.
The Ye family dynamics were also interesting. It wasn't surprising that her father and his wife turned out to be useless, but I was pleasantly surprised by her younger half-brother, who seems reasonable and kind so far. And then there's the uncle. If I'm not mistaken, he's the third branch uncle? I honestly expected him to be annoying because he talks so much, but he actually seems supportive of Ye Li and isn't fond of her father's wife. I'm definitely curious to see more of him.
And Cheng Lei! I've missed his microexpressions so much. The last drama I watched him in was when he portrayed the iconic Dū Dū. His role as Mo Xiu Yao feels like a challenging one, and he completely drew me in. There's softness and sternness, warmth and coldness all mixed into his gaze. Even his subtle smiles and smirks say so much. I also appreciate how the episode introduced his disabled state in a natural way.
The visuals and OST were lovely too. The colors and music complemented the scenes really well, feeling vibrant when needed and gloomy when the story called for it. Everything worked together nicely.
I'm very satisfied with the premiere and hoping the drama keeps up this quality. Binge watching the rest of the released episodes now! ❤️
