What does that last line even mean?! "When the moon rises over the barley field a child is eaten", is it a moto…
I was googling the line last night and apparently it’s from a Seo Jeong Joo poet (a famous korean poet) which must have been why Woo Kyung was able to finish the line. At this point I’m guessing we’ve got some kind of serial killer at play. Although there seem to be some supernatural or at the very least eerie elements at play, so maybe as you say “a boogeyman” is not so far off...
I found the first episode utterly spellbinding. Right now it looks like we have some supernatural elements mixed in with a strong thriller suspense plot as well. I'm sold. Will definitely continue.
At a base level yes, I agree that Jin Kang has a right to know why. But I also understand why Moo Yeong would make this decision. I don't think it's a one to one comparison with the brother. Because if Jin Gook had been honest with his sister up front, he could have prevented this whole thing from happening, whereas in Moo Yeong's mind the damage has already been done (i.e. they've already fallen in love and slept together). Whether you like or dislike Moo Yeong isn't at issue here. If the brother knew that Moo Yeong and Jin Kang were related and didn't say anything in order to hide his past and his sister parentage, then the greater burden of guilt rests on him.
Believe me, under like 90% of circumstances I would be right there with you. I usually hate this trope with a passion. But what he's probably thinking--and I think he's probably right--is that if she finds out that she's fallen in love with and become intimate with her biological brother it would fuck her up for life. And thematically it goes along with the idea that some truths are so horrible it's better not to know them. I think in this context it works, even if it is a makjang trope.
For what it's worth, I still don't think they're siblings. Yeah, there are decent arguments on both sides, but from what I understand some serious character changes have taken place between the Japanese and Korean versions. I just have a hard time imagining that the Korean audience is going to be as receptive to the surprise incest ending. What would be far more in keeping with popular Kdrama tropes would be the idea that Moo Yeong's father killed Jin Kang's parents (the other two murder victims that have been noted). That would be plenty angsty, imo, though a bit less narratively bold than the original. Maybe if they had cooled it with the skinship and intimacy between the leads I would buy that they will make them siblings in the end, but I feel like that's still too much for Korean television. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Additionally, if they were going to go with the same twist from the Jdrama, I don't feel like they would have revealed it at the end of episode 14. I just can't see the writers spending the next 2 episode dealing with the fallout of the accidental incest, plot. Not only that, I really wouldn't want to watch it. There's still two hours of drama left, and my instincts say there's one more twist before the finale.
Gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in the most recent twist. It feels like a cop out and it really doesn't make any sense either. I'm sure they'll try to explain it later, but they already gave us the "rules" for living spirits and Da Il has not been following any of them up to this point. Why is he only having to go back to his body now? It removes some of the tension for me, that he's alive. Certainly it's a whole lot less tragic but now I'm not sure I'm interesting in seeing how they catch Woo Hye and resolve this...
What's with these dudes thinking it's okay to propose to women they aren't even dating? WTH is that?
I honestly have so much respect for the way So Eun handled it though? What she said and the way she walked away. I was so proud of her. When she realized that there was no friendship to salvage if she didn't have a romantic interest in him, and she has too much self-respect to put up with that nonsense. It wasn't like it didn't hurt her, because she really cared about him as a friend, but he really only sees her as an object.
not sure why there is so much negativity around the lead actress, I think she is doing really well.
She's an idol actress, so she's going to get hate no matter what. It's sad really. She might not be blowing my mind, but she's doing a good job. I don't know what people's problem is.
