Maybe it's medieval. Maybe you are probably new generation of kdrama watchers. That was not at all any kind of manipulation (I have seen worse manipulation in other dramas). When you live with your parents you have to follow and maintain a kind of social norms. And her father did agree and did respect her choice of partner. It's just not that that the 'adult child tells them to fuck off and mind their own business'. No it's not done like that. You sit there and talk out your problems with your parents. Obviously parents will say 'No' at the first. But it's your duty to make your parents believe you and trust you, your choice or whatever matter you have decided on. They are from different generation and hence they have different view. But you have to also tell them that time has change so you are not wrong also. But you don't tell them 'fuck off'. Because your wellness is the only thing they want. Atleast that's what I think and that's what I am taught. But obviously opinions vary.

It's not like that at all. Mi Ho's Father did appreciate Il Young as a person. He even asked him to stay for breakfast when Il Young came to their house for the first time. But tell me would any father prefer to marry his daughter off to anybody? Would any father want anybody to marry her daughter only out of responsibility? I guess no. And it's Asian household man! And he does allow at last and he seems to be happy during his granddaughters' 100 day ceremony. It's not about being dominating Father but it's about being worried about his daughter's future. It's the worry so that his easy decision now doesn't retaliate in future.
If its true that a person can only get married in Korea with their parent's consent, then that is fucked up beyond…
It's not like that they can't get married without permission. But in Asia, it's regarded that marriage is a harmonious event between two families. Also who doesn't want to get blessings from their parents when they want to start a new life. Would anyone want their children to grow up without grandparents love and care? So it's called promoting good culture. P.S. The parents were not at all interfering in this regard. And there was a scene where Mi Ho's Mother says that Mi Ho's Father was the eldest son so he too can understand about Seo Ji Hwan as a 'hyung' asking their permission in this marriage. The parents just wanted to show that they have taught their daughter good values. It's just about the etiquette and filial duties.
The subtitles of the versions I’m able to watch are so bad…🥲
